I was introduced to this restaurant by a friend, who said that they privately call this restaurant &quot;Soul Malatang&quot;. The chili dish in the second photo is the specialty of the restaurant. In history, Qionglai has a saying of &quot;one Ping, two Gu, three Jiaguan&quot;, that is, Pingle, Guyi, and Jiaguan are the three major towns. Gu is the Guyi Ancient Town to be introduced today. Guyi has a long history of more than a thousand years, and the famous Sichuan Opera was born here. Before I went there, I really had never heard of this niche ancient town in Chengdu, because it is really too niche&darr;

🫖Drinking Sanhua in the old teahouse under the old banyan tree:
There is an old teahouse by the river in the ancient town. It was originally named Wujia Teahouse. It is said that it has existed since the Qing Dynasty. Just look at the old objects in the teahouse and you will know that it is stable. The teahouse is full of local elderly people. A bowl of Sanhua costs 5 yuan, the most expensive Piaoxue costs 8 yuan, and entertainment costs 10 yuan for an afternoon. Sit under the old banyan tree by the South River and drink a cup of covered tea, blow the river breeze, wash the shells, and get rid of the smell of Ban. It is very leisurely.

Compared with other ancient towns in Chengdu, there is no commercialization here, and there are almost no tourists. Old streets like Guyi are rare in towns and villages in Chengdu. At present, there are thirteen old streets with original style. There are two main trunks of the old street, one Shanghe Street and one Zheng Street. There are also small streets and alleys connected to Caishi Street, Xin Street, Dajingkan Street, Yushi Street, etc. between the two trunks. Walking through them and walking in front of rows of wooden houses, it seems to have returned to the last century. The entrance of the old street, Shanghe Street, is right next to the front door of the Guyi Old Teahouse.

Guyi is most famous for its sweet-skinned duck, which is cooked in a more traditional way. Several old restaurants in the town all taste good. I ate the old duck, which had crispy skin and not dry meat, and no duck smell. It was well prepared. There are also many local snacks in Zhilin Square.

❶Self-driving: Directly navigate to &quot;Guyi Old Teahouse&quot;, and the entrance to the old street is next to the front door of the teahouse.

❷Subway + bus/taxi: Take Chengdu Metro Line 10 to Xinping Station. After getting off, take the express bus from Qionglai to Guyi, which is only 4 stops away, or take a taxi.

❸High-speed rail + minibus/taxi: Take the train from Chengdu to Qionglai Station, and there is a minibus to Guyi next to the bus station, or you can take a taxi to go forward.

🥾Nearby things to do: 1. Around the city of Qionglai (go to Qionglai Kiln for the museum, go to Huazhi Temple and Qingtuo Temple for the grottoes, and walk to Baihe Mountain) 2. Guyi is known as the hometown of Sichuan Opera. This old teahouse, nestled beside Nanhu Lake and adorned with an old banyan tree, retains its original architectural style, reminiscent of my grandfather&#39;s childhood home.

Tea is priced fairly standard for a rural teahouse, mostly for seniors. The most expensive is the Bamboo Leaf Green Piaoxue tea at 8 yuan a cup. Four of us had four cups for only 29 yuan, roughly the same price as a single cup in Pingle Ancient Town. Why even bother with a bicycle? I highly recommend this place for those who enjoy a more immersive experience. If the weather is nice, it&#39;s lovely to sit under the banyan tree, basking in the sun while sipping tea and gazing at the lake.

However, it can be a bit chilly without the sun right now, as there&#39;s no fire to warm yourself, and there are quite a few mosquitoes near the river.

If you come in the morning, try Fu Jia Noodles for some authentic Shui Ye Zi noodles. I ordered the beef noodles, which were flavorful and delicious. My friends grew up here and have loved this place since they were little. It&#39;s pretty good.

You absolutely must try the Guyi Sweet-Skin Duck, which is prepared differently from the Leshan Sweet-Skin Duck. The Chen duck is the most popular, but we think the Gaoyan Sweet-Skin Duck is better. It&#39;s on the expressway, just over the overpass.

You absolutely must try the potato flowers and shredded radish behind the elementary school. It&#39;s a hidden gem, probably only known to locals. You can park on the main road and walk in, or you can park at the teahouse, 21 meters southeast of Guyi Elementary School. As you walk, you can admire the old buildings in the alley. It&#39;s quite interesting. I hope these old buildings are well preserved.

The potato flowers are incredibly delicious, just like the ones I grew up with in the 90s and 95s. After finishing one, I ordered another, hahaha. The shredded radish is also delicious, a specialty of theirs. You can buy some to take home.

At around 4 or 5 pm, the night market opens on Xinda Road, just outside the snack shop. It&#39;s like a market, so you can check it out. The pea tips and watercress sold there are incredibly tender and fresh, and affordable. They&#39;re all picked and sold by local farmers.

The prices in the township are truly impressive. For the price of one bowl of noodles in Chengdu, you can get two or three here. Everyone is welcome to spend a relaxing weekend in Qionglai!
