神奇马可Upon arriving in Ningde, of course, I had to fill my stomach first. I chose a hotel in the city center, and then headed out to eat, drink, and the night market. I glanced at a guide and saw that there was a night market in Nanmendou, but as I walked out, I saw the lights on another road were even brighter. I figured I couldn't just rely on the guide, so I decided to be spontaneous and headed towards the lights.
📌Huancheng Road Night Market
I saw the "I Love Ningde" sign on the wall and saw a few girls taking selfies there, so of course I followed suit. Seeing the sign for Huancheng Road and the crowds of people and stalls, I decided to wander around.
I later learned that this is also a night market.
📌Dasheng Temple
I didn't see anything I wanted to eat, so I headed back to Nanmendou, my original destination. At the intersection, I saw a temple open at night. I went inside and saw it was the temple of the Monkey King, a place I'd never seen before. After all, I grew up watching Journey to the West, so I decided to go in and pay my respects.
📌Nanmendou Night Market
After walking a little further, I saw the Nanmendou archway. It looked quite impressive illuminated at night, but what caught my eye even more were the three or four food stalls beneath the archway, steam rising from the air. I asked the owner, and he said they were selling Ningde's local meatballs. One of them happened to have freshly baked ones, so I joined the queue. It arrived in a plastic bag, and it was hot—hot in my hands and mouth. Six pieces of glutinous rice wrapped in meat filling cost 6 yuan, a very reasonable price. It didn't taste particularly special, but if you've never tried it, you should give it a try. After all, you're here, right?
I heard a tourist next to me say they were going across the street to buy grass jelly, so I grabbed my meatballs and followed them.
📌Awangpo Grass Jelly (178 Huancheng Road)
After walking a bit, I saw a line at a small stall, so I joined the queue. It was quite fast. The stall was filled with grass jelly. I scanned the QR code to pay, and then took it away. I joined other tourists nearby, adding honey water and watermelon cubes. I ate a hot meatball and a cold grass jelly. It was quite enjoyable. I didn't expect to unlock a new achievement in Ningde. 😂
The signature drink is 7 yuan a cup, a little different from the grass jelly in Fuzhou. You should try it.
📌Tianji Noodle House (15 Nanda Road)
I saw a long line. I joined the queue and ordered the internet-famous taro noodles and drunken pork ribs from the person in front of me. I'd never tried the taro noodles before; they tasted a bit like udon noodles, but the noodles had a taro flavor, which was quite unique and definitely worth trying. The drunken pork ribs were a bit oily and fatty. The bowl was small, and at 14 yuan, I finished it quickly. The remaining grass jelly was a good way to beat the greasiness.
📌Pengcheng Street District
After a satisfying meal and drinks, we headed back to the hotel. Walking past the end of the alley, we saw lanterns reflected in the windows, which looked appealing. We walked in. Surprisingly, it was an old neighborhood. Although it wasn't large, I wandered around for a bit and helped digest the food. It was a fun evening.

Spend a day eating your way through Ningde. Simple yet unpretentious. A trip to Ningde is a must! A roundup of must-try eats along Nanmendou Street. 1️⃣ Tianji Noodle House: "Clear Soup Noodles" and "Mixed Taro Noodles" ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Their clear soup noodles have a broth base you can't imagine; it fills your mouth with a unique aroma! You absolutely must try it! 2️⃣ September Sweet Soup, September Sweet Soup, September Sweet Soup I can't mention this shop enough. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Don't miss the duck legs, tofu, duck wings, and peach gum milk. The aroma of the duck legs hits you right on the palate; it's simply insanely delicious. The peach gum milk is one of those things you never get tired of. Sweet but not cloying, you know? The tofu is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The inside is as smooth as milk! Simply amazing! And the Sichuan peppercorn chicken wings—if I wasn't so full, I think I could have eaten them endlessly as a snack. 3️⃣ Glutinous sweet potato dumplings ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Of the three flavors, I personally recommend their bamboo shoot and pork filling. I don't know if it suits your taste, but I love it. The skin is so glutinous, and the meat filling is so fragrant. 4️⃣ Meatballs ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ In the evenings, there are two meatball shops at the Nanmendou intersection. I've tried them all for you. Be sure to get the one on the left, the one with the auntie. Her meatballs are so fragrant that they'll send you straight to the top of your head! 5️⃣ Awangpo's Grass Jelly ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ For only 7 meters per cup, the grass jelly inside is really chewy and delicious. Their grass jelly is truly delicious! 6️⃣ Shouning Rice Cake ⭐⭐⭐⭐ It's like a thicker rice noodle roll with fillings. At first, I was a bit uninitiated and didn't know how to add anything, so the texture wasn't ideal. Later, I saw the locals adding their own oil splash, and after adding that, I realized how delicious it was. 😋 7️⃣ Rongding Pan-fried Buns ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The buns are generously filled with meat, golden on the outside, and the filling is still coated with a little bit of broth. Each bite is incredibly satisfying. You can pack a few to take away. I've tried it for you. You can deep-fry them at home or reheat them in the air fryer. They're still delicious! 8️⃣ Wuqu Flat Meat ⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is my first time having this kind of flat meat soup. It has a slightly sour taste, which is very unique. You can buy Rongding Pan-fried Buns and Shouning Rice Cake and come here to eat together. The three shops are right next to each other. To sum up Ningde snacks, every delicious thing is close to each other, and every snack is incredibly affordable.
The first stop of our trip was Ningde. We arrived at 5 PM, packed up at the hotel, and officially started our journey at 7 PM. We visited the Jiaocheng Night Market (p2) and had some delicious ice cream and barbecue across from the Wanda Plaza. We then rode our electric scooter to Nanmendou (p3) and bought some street-side meatballs and steamed buns. I really loved the small town atmosphere. The next morning, we went to Nanlian Mountain (p4). The entrance felt like a large community center, but the ascent was a completely different scene—a truly interesting combination. There were several temples along the way, but due to the sweltering heat and occasional drizzles, we unfortunately didn't make it to the summit. We then passed Nanmendou again and bought some Awangpo herbal grass jelly. We then went to Donghu Market. I've really been loving markets lately. They feel like the real life there. They're huge, and there's a Ningde Mazu Temple (p5). We also had some Qixing meatballs across the street and some fried buns at Quzhitang Road. I loved them! The next stop was Baoen Temple (p6). There were very few people. Next, it was Ningde's last stop—Golden Snake Head Village (p7). Since we went on a weekday afternoon, there weren't many people, but it was still a truly photogenic experience. We also saw the sea train. If you have more time, you can enjoy the sunset and dinner in the evening—it's truly relaxing. We ate on p8. Many of the recommended restaurants, like September Tangshui and Shouning Rice Cake, were closed when we arrived, and we couldn't eat much afterwards. However, the ice rice, grass jelly, and Rongding fried buns were truly delicious. After visiting Golden Snake Head, you can go directly to Ningde Station. Since we had too much luggage, we returned to the hotel and took the official 7-seater ride to our next stop. See you in Xiapu!
Ningde, a beautiful city in Fujian Province, boasts what are considered the most beautiful tidal flats in China. Home to numerous century-old villages, it's a beloved "backyard" for Zhejiang and Fujian residents, a veritable "Jerusalem" of the culinary world. It's also a hidden culinary paradise. [RoundNails] Taikang Road: A Paradise for Seafood Stalls Taikang Road is Xiapu's most famous food street, dotted with seafood stalls, making it an excellent choice for authentic seafood. Step inside and you'll be greeted by a dazzling array of fresh seafood, instantly whetting your appetite. Both Fatty and Fatty Seafood Stall and the New Delicious Garden main branch are located here. [RoundNails] Chen's Pork Kidney A trip to Ningde is a must-try! This stewed pot noodles are universally praised by those in Fu'an. Their noodles are made with small pieces of pork scraps, giving them a rich, fragrant lard flavor. They're also delicious with stir-fried noodles or anything else. The pork kidney soup is the only one I dare try; it's flavorless and crispy. ✔ 🌟[Uncle's Pickled Vegetables] 📍Address: No. 601-1, Taikang Road, Xiapu County 🍰Must-order: Pickled Three Combos, Pickled Blood Clams The sweet, glutinous, and refreshing pickled seafood, combined with the spicy, salty sauce—the two blend perfectly, flawlessly! 🥩Fuding Meat Slices: Made with lean pork and sweet potato starch, these slices have a chewy, firm texture. Paired with rice vinegar and chili peppers, they're incredibly appetizing. It's Fuding's signature dish, offering a sour, spicy, and fragrant flavor, with a springy texture and a rich, salty aroma. 🥣She Ethnic Group Black Rice: With a history of over 1,300 years, Black Rice is a must-have for reunions among the local She ethnic group. Its fragrant, glutinous, and tender texture makes it perfect for festive occasions. 🐠 Yellow croaker: Ningde yellow croaker is known as one of China's "Ten Treasures" and can be cooked in a variety of ways, each one bringing out its exquisite flavor. 🍲 Minnan Hu: Minnan Hu is truly a feast for the senses. It's delicious when served hot, with fragrant and tender bamboo shoots, springy shrimp, savory cuttlefish, and crispy peanuts. Pan-fried Minnan Hu is particularly popular. After cooling, the Hu solidifies and takes on a grayish hue. Sliced and pan-fried, the Hu slowly regains its translucency in the hot oil, creating a crispy, charred exterior and a soft, glutinous interior. The mixture of various fresh and fragrant ingredients creates a rich, flavorful texture. 🌯 Shouning Rice Cake: It looks like a rice noodle roll, but the ingredients are completely different. Rice is ground into a paste and flattened, then filled with stir-fried beans, bean sprouts, shredded carrots, diced meat, and other ingredients, creating a rich, flavorful roll. [ RoundNails] Lao Nanmen Awangpo's Grass Jelly. I only had three or four cups in two days. It's sweet grass jelly and good for your health—who wouldn't love it? 💰7 [RoundNails] Rongding Fried Buns. I can't believe how delicious these fried buns are. I only had them twice in two days, mainly because I didn't get enough on the first day, so I came back the next day and tried their flat meat, fish, and water-based jelly—all were good. Fried buns 💰3.5 each, huge. [RoundNails] Jiuyue Sweet Soup. The online location is wrong. It's in the alleyway of Awangpo's Grass Jelly, so you can see it right away. Their duck legs are incredible 💰14 each—not cheap, but worth it. Jasmine tea jelly 💰5 a bowl, delicious with coconut milk! [RoundNails] Lao Xue Sweet Potato Cup 🍠 This dish has been featured on CCTV, and it's packed with goodies! At just 2 yuan each, it's an incredible value. Shaped like a cup, it's filled with a chewy sweet potato skin and pork filling. It's the perfect balance of sweet and salty, and it's both affordable and delicious.
#Summer Drive Spots Ningde is a seriously underrated city in Fujian, boasting beaches, islands, delicious food, fishing villages, and even the "Zelda of Zelda"-like Sishuang Islands. The mudflats are like the secret code of the earth, and the colorful fishing villages resemble Italy's Cinque Terre. Xiapu's 510-kilometer coastline is breathtaking, with unique attractions like the Dongguashan Tidal Flats and the Qixing Fishing Raft in Xinan Town. Route Planning 🗺️ - Day 1: Nanmendou (strolling and enjoying the local street food) → The Vegetable Market (experiencing local customs and culture) - Day 2: Xiapu County South Route (cruising around the sea to see sea caves, etc.) → Danwan Observation Deck (glass cliff café by the sea) → Dongbi Village (a stunning fishing village) - Day 3: Sishuang Islands (Dongluo Island, Xiluo Island, Nanluo Island, etc., experience the "Zelda of Zelda" experience) Accommodation Recommendations 🏠 - Xiapu County: Stay the night here. The scenic area is about an hour's drive away, and the train can reach it in just over 20 minutes. - Dongbi Village: During the off-season, choose a B&B with a view of the sea and the village. Around 400 per night is a moderate price, allowing you to enjoy the fishing village scenery. Transportation 🚗 - Driving: It's most convenient to have your own car, saving time and luggage. - Chartering a car/Public Transportation: If you're not driving, arrange a chartered car with a friend in advance. You can also combine public transportation like the train and bus. Transportation from Xiapu County to various attractions is quite convenient. To visit the Sishuang Islands, take a round-trip speedboat for 450 per person. Meet at the pier at 8:30 AM for boarding. V. Food Recommendations 🍤 - Nanmendou: Meatballs sold by a grandmother on a cart at the alley entrance (the taro skin is so sticky it stretches, and the meat filling is juicy and rich); oyster cakes at the entrance (4 yuan each, with oysters and mixed vegetables, like a crispy version of floating rice cake); Old Nanmen Awangpo's roasted grass jelly (over 20 years old, old-fashioned honey flavor, with peanuts, grass jelly, soybeans, and adazi (the adazi are super chewy); taro noodles and mixed noodles at a shabby-looking noodle shop (48 yuan with 8 side dishes, the taro noodles are like potato noodles but not as chewy). - County Town: A place full of students for rice cakes and flat meat (rice cakes are like thick rice noodle rolls, and flat meat is like wontons). Sweet potato cups and fish dumplings (the fish dumplings have a transparent skin and are super chewy). - Seafood shop: A local favorite, the seafood is super fresh! When you come to Xiapu, you must try the yellow croaker (steamed, the meat melts in your mouth), as well as razor clams, mantis shrimp, oysters, and crab (all very plump, the crab's roe is incredibly juicy). - Sansha Town: After returning, try some Southern Fujian snacks. Six Tips📌 - Visiting attractions like the sea caves and Haiwei Cape requires careful consideration of the tide tables; these areas can only be seen at low tide. - If you want to take photos without people, go early and quickly. Get off the sightseeing bus and head straight down; the path down is steep, so be careful. - Wear sunscreen when visiting islands and beaches! Even on cloudy days, there's UV radiation, which can easily lead to sunburns. - Visiting the Ningde vegetable market allows you to experience local customs and culture; if you enjoy the ambiance of everyday life, don't miss it. - If you're prone to seasickness, be sure to prepare well before taking the speedboat to the Sishuang Islands.
