Siyi Gaotuan Shop

Came on January 11, 2025. Dad likes to eat cake dumplings. When I learned that there is also a time-honored store in Nantong that is famous for cake dumplings, I naturally made a special trip to buy some cakes to take back as souvenirs. This store is located on South Street outside the Jiangshan Gate site of the old Tongzhou City. The antique gatehouse is very recognizable. The store is not big. The cake counter is facing the door and there are many varieties. I bought some sweet-scented osmanthus cakes and other varieties to take home. I heard they are quite delicious, similar to the ones we have at Shen Dacheng in Shanghai. In addition to cake dumplings, this store actually also sells Chinese snacks such as noodles, fried rice, and wontons. The business is even better than cake dumplings, which is quite surprising.

The century-old famous cake shop is located under the long bridge of Nan Street, Nantong Business Center, in the Haohe Scenic Area. It has a long history and is very popular. Although it is called a cake shop, it actually has a wide variety of food. There are a variety of wontons, noodles, porridge, cold dishes, etc. There is a lot of room for selection. The environment is hygienic and you can eat with confidence. The taste is good and the service is thoughtful. In particular, the restaurant on the second floor is antique, quiet and comfortable. You can taste Nantong food by the window and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Haohe River leisurely. This is the best place for tourists to dine. After the meal, you can go downstairs to stroll around the prosperous South Street or walk to the Haohe River on the left. Both are very leisurely and comfortable choices. Transportation: Bus No. 4 goes directly there.

I suddenly had a craving for glutinous rice foods and found this pastry shop. The storefront was grand and had a classic, antique feel. Besides various pastries, they also offered other snacks and staple foods. However, the prices were a bit puzzling. The osmanthus cake, which is basically just a strip of rice cake, cost 7 yuan a piece!

I usually grab a bite after work at lunchtime. I order a bowl of vermicelli soup and a couple of pastries, and it makes for a really satisfying lunch. It's an old, well-established restaurant, and the food is always just right. Everyone should give it a try!

I come here to eat every few days. It's not far from me, and having lunch here with a glass noodle soup and two servings of rice cakes is really comforting. The rice cakes are very soft and chewy, and especially fragrant. The location is also easy to find. It's definitely worth a try!
