I came to the Tulou for fun. I walked to this restaurant in less than 5 minutes. The proprietress was very welcoming. I ordered: Steamed First Love (wild light fish is called First Love in Minnan dialect), braised pickled cabbage with taro, stir-fried bamboo shoots with meat, Guanyin vegetable, old duck soup, four dishes and one soup The fish is the most distinctive fish in the local area. The fish scales can be eaten, which is amazing, and the fish is very fresh...

The two of us were not very good at ordering. We wanted to order a few more local specialties but were afraid of not finishing them all. We ordered a few based on the boss’s recommendation, including stir-fried meat with bamboo shoots, stir-fried meat with wild bracken, and stir-fried local chicken. They were a good match. To our taste, the bamboo shoots were very tender, and the chicken was a bit unpalatable when paired with rice. We ordered half a small portion, and the bracken was okay. The boss lady was very enthusiastic. After finishing the meal, she asked us if we wanted to see the dilapidated buildings next to us. She could take us to see them for free.

There are five dishes and one soup, the taste is quite good, and the price is reasonable. I ordered a whole chicken, half of which was stewed in soup and the other half was stir-fried. It tasted great and was very well-seasoned. It was the first time I had wild fern, and it was ok. The salt and pepper river shrimps were fragrant, crispy and very fresh. The homely side dish was scrambled eggs with tomatoes and green leafy vegetables. They were good and worth recommending!

Wangjia Tucai Restaurant is located in the Tulou Scenic Area (Yunshuiyao Scenic Area) in Nanping, Fujian, next to Heguilou. Its hand-shredded beggar's chicken and fried shrimps taste great.
