One day, the beautiful Li girl E Niang went up the mountain to pick wild flowers and was caught by the crow spirit in a cave. This made E Niang's lover A Gui heartbroken. On the third day of the third lunar month of that year, A Gui went up the mountain with a sharp knife and bow and arrow to rescue E Niang, but was unfortunately killed by the crow spirit. E Niang was extremely sad and vowed to kill the crow to avenge A Gui. One day, E Niang took advantage of the crow spirit's deep sleep and quietly pulled out the awl on her hair to blind the crow's golden eyes. The crow spirit rushed around in the cave. E Niang took the opportunity to shoot the crow spirit's heart with the bow and arrow brought by A Gui, avenging A Gui and removing a major worry for the people. Later, E Niang never married. Every year on the third day of the third lunar month, she would come to the cave and sing the love song when she and A Gui were in love. In order to commemorate the beautiful, wise and brave E Niang, the Li people named the cave "E Niang Cave" and the mountain was also named E Niang Jiufeng Mountain. On the third day of March every year, young men and women of the Li ethnic group would gather here, singing love songs to find their soulmates. Later, the activity gradually expanded and eventually became a grand festival shared by the Li ethnic group in Hainan - the "March 3rd Festival", which has continued to this day.
