#MonthlySpecialPlan In 2023, I traveled extensively in southern Xinjiang. To avoid the same old beef and mutton every day, I planned one or two worthwhile restaurants at each stop, except for days when I arrived back late. After a year of revisiting the best southern Xinjiang cuisine I've tried, I wanted to share my thoughts on the year! ▪️Korla - Kaisi Balang The set menus were practically perfect: delicious, generous portions, and included local specialties like baked steamed buns and spicy chicken. But if you don't like mutton, be careful. The restaurant has a nice ambiance and even a fantastic performance! ▪️Kuqa - Daheyan If you don't want to stick to beef and mutton, try some fish here. The broth is spicy and numbing, and the freshly made tofu skin is highly recommended! The ambiance is also great, and the set menus are generous! ▪️Kuqa - Xiangyue Yangcun Restaurant The prices are affordable and the portions are generous. The mutton paired with Laba garlic is truly delicious. I never expected to find Aksu apples in the spicy chicken here. The set meals are generous, but you'll notice many dishes are just basic side dishes, which are great with rice! - ▪️Taxian - Benleixin Yak Hotpot I stumbled upon this place by accident because a popular restaurant was out of space, but the owner is incredibly welcoming! A Sichuanese-owned restaurant, the low temperatures on the plateau make it perfect for a hotpot meal! Because of the remote location and limited supplies, it's not exactly cheap. But the meal was truly satisfying, and the atmosphere was wonderful. - ▪️Hotan - Xinjiang No. 87 This restaurant specializes in Xinjiang cuisine. The restaurant is large and the atmosphere is pleasant, and everything is à la carte. The Qitai small yellow noodles were a disappointment, so I wouldn't recommend them. The other dishes, including the pigeon soup, pork belly wrapped in pork belly, and scrambled eggs with sand scallions, were all excellent. - ▪️Kuitun - Wang Fei's Big Plate Chicken The portions are incredibly large, so be sure to order less! The yellow noodles with roast beef were average, but the baoersak, big plate chicken, stir-fried eggplant with chili peppers, and spicy red peppers were all delicious. The prices are affordable, but the individual dishes are quite large, and the food can be a bit heavy on the oil and salt. - ▪️Urumqi - Loulan Secret BBQ I honestly didn't find this place particularly delicious. It's quite large, with an ethnic-themed interior, but the food was just average. I also opted for the set menu, but it wasn't particularly memorable.
