Juying is very famous. There are many branches. The noodles are made in the old Hangzhou way, but they are better than the noodles in the traditional Hangzhou noodle shops in other places. They are not mushy or hard. The shop is full before 11 o'clock in the afternoon. Compared with other noodle shops, the business here is really good. You have to wait, but there is nothing wrong with it. If you are in a hurry, consider going earlier.
Juying Noodle House is also a well-known old brand of Pianerchuan in Hangzhou. I have seen the main store of this restaurant near Wushan Scenic Area before, but I didn't have the chance to try it. I didn't expect that there is a branch in the mall this time. The environment is relatively refreshing, and there are many newspapers with news reports from the early years hanging around. The ingredients of Pianerchuan are sliced meat and straw mushrooms, which are relatively light, but the taste doesn't feel anything special.
Juying Noodle House is a famous folk noodle house that has been featured in "A Bite of China". Pianerchuan and shredded pork with Sichuan noodles are the signature dishes of the restaurant. The noodles are chewy and the seasoning is delicious. Juying Noodle House is located on Gulou Food Street. It is always packed during meal times. If you want to eat there, you can avoid peak hours.
A bowl of authentic "Pian'erchuan" has made Juying Noodle House a household name. For Hangzhou's seasoned noodle lovers, the owner of this noodle house has been selling Pian'erchuan since 1993, starting with a neighborhood stall. Thanks to its generous ingredients, word of mouth has grown, and long lines have become a common sight.
Our first stop in Hangzhou was the famous Juying Noodle Shop. We arrived early in the morning, braving a light rain. The shop is quite large, with a small bridge and flowing water in front, a very Jiangnan style. We ordered Sichuan Pian'er and Sichuan Shredded Pork. Perhaps the hype was too good, but the higher our expectations, the greater our disappointment. The taste was mediocre—not terrible, but not particularly delicious either. At 45 yuan for two bowls, it felt like a poor value. It's okay for a quick stop, but it's not worth making a special trip.
