Enjoy the leisurely journey! The artistic and slow life along the Jianjiang River in Duyun
I departed Nanning East Station early this morning, barely even having time for a cup of coffee before catching the 7 a.m. train. Two hours later, I was already standing in Duyun. A 50-yuan taxi ride took me straight to Halal Beef and Lamb Noodles (Hongqi Xincun Branch). First, a bowl of steaming beef noodles was the real deal!
After my meal, I spotted a small sesame seed bun stall at the entrance of the nearby residential complex and couldn't resist buying another one with white sugar. After satisfying my sugar fix, I embarked on a city walk, traversing the Jianjiang River all the way to the stone-slab bridge.
🛶This natural waterway is a true urban paradise! Swimming and fishing areas are designated on both sides of the river, and lifeguards and lifebuoys are posted along the way, giving me a sense of security. Seeing many residents leisurely fishing was a sight to behold.
After walking about two kilometers, I arrived at Shiban Ancient Street. Midday in Duyun, the sun was breezy and warm, but not too hot, and the crowds were minimal. The clatter of footsteps on the bluestone pavement of the ancient stone street was particularly crisp. I walked to Auntie Xiao's Snack Shop and had a delightful 10-yuan iced sweet rice cake. There were many small shops along the street where you could dress up and take photos. If you're interested, you should try them. It was almost lunchtime again, so I went to Xiao Wangmei's Green Pepper Chicken, also recommended by a local friend. We ordered a 1-jin (1000-pound) green pepper chicken, which came with a bowl of sour soup, rice, and a cold dish. For just over 80 yuan, the all-you-can-eat meal was truly amazing for two people. The green pepper chicken, however, got spicier the longer it was cooked, and we both sweated profusely.
After lunch, we continued on our way to the hotel, taking in the scenery along the way. Duyun has many overpasses, offering great views. As we neared the hotel, we finally spotted Yi Cha Yi Yue Hu, a local milk tea brand. We packed up and headed straight for our hotel, the Lavande Hotel (Duyun Dashizi Wenfeng Park Branch).
We rested briefly at the hotel for lunch, looking forward to our afternoon and evening itineraries.
