The Kaige Restaurant, which we checked in this time, is a window to understand Datong cuisine and a classic restaurant loved by locals. 🌿 It is called a restaurant, and the overall decoration style is indeed like a restaurant. The dining hall is quite grand and the seats are very comfortable. The service staff in the store are basically local aunts. 🍲 Although it is a restaurant, the price of the dishes is not expensive at all, and the dishes can be ordered in half portions, which is really friendly for single diners. Kaige Fengsha Chicken Although it is a roast chicken, the method should be like Chinese fried chicken. The marinated chicken is first steamed and then fried in oil. The chicken has the taste of marination and does not feel bland at all. The chicken skin is fried crispy. The only drawback is that the taste is salty. Sanbao oat noodle nest is the most surprising dish. The oat noodles are covered with sauerkraut and potato toppings. The addition of sauerkraut adds a hint of sourness, which relieves the greasy and heavy feeling of potatoes. The oat noodles below are soaked in the taste of the toppings and are chewy, which tastes good. Fried meat is slightly oily as others have commented, and it will feel greasy if you eat it alone. Overall, this restaurant is very cost-effective. The half-portion of food is basically the same as a portion in the south. If two people are full, it may cost less than 100 yuan. And the taste of this restaurant is very good, and the dishes are all made in the store.

First meal in Datong The first day of my 2020 Datong trip was very different from the feeling I had when I came to Datong in 1990. However, the country has changed a lot over the years of reform and opening up. The charcoal-grilled pork elbow, charcoal-grilled pork with sauce, ground vegetables with shredded potatoes and sauerkraut, cashews, celery and lily in Kaige Restaurant were all delicious and unique. I loved the charcoal-grilled pork elbow the most. Thanks to the merchant for the red bean porridge and watermelon. This was my first meal in Datong. It was delicious! I love this old Datong restaurant. Their specialty is that you can order half portions of all the dishes. The mutton siu mai is a classic and more amazing than anything I've eaten since. The mutton offal is incredibly generous, and they even give me millet porridge at the end. I really miss it.
