科德角岳飞The Pamir Plateau in Xinjiang is a magical place, home to a variety of rare natural landscapes that are a feast for the eyes.
Among them, Muztagh Ata is a peak that many people long to see.
As a peak in the Kunlun Mountains, Muztagh Ata has been endowed with many unique meanings.

Many people travel to the Pamir Plateau solely to see Muztagh Ata, after all, it is the second highest peak in the western Kunlun Mountains.
Muztagh Ata, Kongur Peak, and Kongur Jiubie Peak, towering like pillars of jade, stand tall on the beautiful Pamir Plateau, becoming its symbol and representative.
The best place to view Muztagh Ata is by the shores of Karakul Lake. However, catching a glimpse of Muztagh Ata requires luck. The weather at Karakul Lake can change at the slightest, bringing with it strong winds and dark clouds, completely obscuring the peak you long to see.
Sighing at the peak is a common occurrence near Karakul Lake. I traveled to Karakul Lake twice, but never had the chance to see Muztagh Ata in its entirety. So, it's important to maintain a calm mindset when traveling.

Actually, Karakul Lake is quite scenic.
Karakul Lake is named "Karakul" for its deep, dark waters, which means "Black Lake" in the Kyrgyz language.
Karakul Lake is lush with grass and birds, offering beautiful scenery. The legend of a water monster adds to its allure.
Karakul Lake is located along National Highway 314. Whether traveling from Kashgar to the Pamir Plateau or from Tashkurgan, you'll usually pass by here around noon.
Of course, I hope you're lucky enough to see that enchanting peak.

The breathtaking Karakul Lake Scenic Area offers a lakeside B&B worth visiting once in a lifetime. #SpecialtyHotel #Nanny-Level Travel Photography Guide #PamirsPlateau Muyun Camp has 20 guest rooms. Each room offers a unique view. We highly recommend the Mufeng Lake View King Room. The view is breathtaking, facing Muztagh Ata. Open the curtains and you'll see Muztagh Ata right before your eyes. The rooms are fully equipped with humidifiers, plateau-grade medical oxygen concentrators, air conditioning, projectors, water dispensers, and electric water heaters. The service was excellent; I personally felt it was attentive and thorough, though there's room for improvement, given the current surge in hotel sales. The location is impeccable; within the scenic area, the three Kunlun Mountains are all within sight. The good location is of course a disadvantage, as it is crowded. Fortunately, the scenic area is not open 24 hours a day, so there are fewer people after work, and guests have exclusive access to the scenic area. Generally, there are a lot of people after 12:00 in the morning and before 18:00 in the afternoon, which can be a bit noisy. However, the soundproofing of the guest rooms is acceptable.
A stunning camp hidden in the Pamir Plateau! Muyun Camp is a true paradise 🏔️ Located on the shores of Karakul Lake, Muyun Camp is a must-stay in Akto! From the moment you open your tent, you can see Muztagh Ata and Kongur Peaks. From your room, you can admire the stunning reflections of their snow-capped peaks in the lake. It's truly one of the "Three Heroes of Kunlun" scenic spots! 📍Excellent Location: It's located in the Karakul Lake Scenic Area in Bulenkou Village, just steps from the lake. The location is 140 meters south of the "Goodbye" fast food restaurant, so navigation is a breeze. The staff thoughtfully provided oxygen tanks and warming ginger soup. 2. Lots of surprise raffles and services: free drone photography, room upgrades, and even room service. 3. Any questions you might have, the staff are incredibly helpful. 🏕️ Comfortable Accommodation: Although it's a camp, the facilities are impeccable! • Private bathrooms with 24-hour hot water, allowing for a comfortable hot shower even in the highlands. • Each room is equipped with a humidifier to combat the dryness of the plateau. • Clean and comfortable bedding. It's so romantic to fall asleep under a thick blanket at night, gazing at the stars. 🍽️ Dining: The breakfast is incredibly filling! Freshly brewed milk tea, naan, eggs, and a variety of side dishes are sure to give you a boost of energy to start the day. The food is delicious, and it's truly heartwarming to be able to enjoy such delicious food in the highlands. 📸Tips: 1. Drones are a great choice for stunning results. 3. Starry Night: The plateau sky is breathtaking; remember to bring a tripod to capture star trails. 💡Travel Tips: • Booking is recommended at least one month in advance; rooms are hard to come by during peak season. • The temperature difference between day and night is significant, so bring a windproof jacket, preferably a down jacket, as nighttime temperatures drop significantly. • Avoid showering for the first two days of your arrival on the plateau. • Pack some snacks like chocolate for energy. 📍Address: 140 meters south of the Goodbye Fast Food Restaurant in the Karakul Lake Scenic Area, Bulunkou Village. #XinjiangTravel #PamirPlateau #PlateauHotel #KarakulLake #MuztaghAta

### 🚩 Highlights of the trip - **Muji Volcano Group** (Kari Temir Volcano Group): 13 thousand-year-old craters are embedded on a plateau at an altitude of 3,800 meters. The lake water presents fantastic colors such as emerald green and orange-red due to minerals. It looks like the "Eye of the Pamirs" from an aerial perspective. - **White Sand Lake**: The "blue tears" passing by, the lake water and the white sand hills interweave to form a pure state. - **Karakul Lake**: The "color-changing lake" at the foot of Muztagh Ata Peak, the lake water changes from dark green to purple gold with the light. You can take pictures of the reflection of the snow-capped mountains and the yaks returning home by hiking on the plank road by the lake. - **Luxury accommodation at Muyun Camp**: Facing Kongur Jiubie Peak and Muztagh Ata Peak, you can experience the 24-hour panoramic view of the snow-capped mountains by opening the window. --- ### 📅 Itinerary **📍 Day 1: Kashgar→ Baisha Lake→ Muji Volcano (Core Day for Aerial Photography)** - **Morning** Depart from Kashgar (prepare **border pass** in advance, indicate "Kizilsu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture" and "Kashgar Region"), drive for 3 hours to Baisha Lake. It is recommended to start early to avoid shooting against the light. The contrasting scene of the lakeside sand hills and the blue lake is suitable for wide-angle lenses, and you can create a "desert ocean" blockbuster. - **Afternoon** Continue driving for 1 hour to reach the Muji volcano group. **Aerial photography highlights**: - Rise to 200 meters to take a panoramic view of the volcano group, capturing the strong contrast between the brown earth and the colorful lake (recommended crater numbers: No. 5 Green Lake, No. 8 Orange Lake). - Fly low over the lake to shoot the crater texture, and use the evening oblique light to highlight the metallic texture of the water surface. - Use the Eighteen Arhats Snow Mountain as the background to construct a layered composition of "volcano + snow peak". - **Overnight** Muji Township herdsmen's home (simple accommodation) or return to Bulunkou Township (recommended, to accumulate energy for the next day's Ka Lake). **📍 Day 2: Karakul Lake full-day travel photography → Muyun Camp** - **Early morning** Arrive at Karakul Lake (ticket 45 yuan), **7:00-9:00** shoot the sunrise: the lake is like dark green satin, the reflection of Muztagh Ata is complete, and the telephoto is used to capture the mirror symmetry of the "Sunshine Golden Mountain". - **Morning** Hike along the **Wooden Plank Road around the Lake** and look for the following scenes: - **Towards Subashi Village**: Kirgiz herders drive yaks to drink water, and the humanities blockbuster with snow-capped mountains as the background. - **West side of the viewing platform**: At noon, the lake water turns sapphire blue, and the lakeshore prayer flags/mani piles are used as the foreground. - **Afternoon** Experience horseback riding around the lake (about 100 yuan/hour) or make an appointment for **Snow Mountain Afternoon Tea** at Muyun Camp, and use medium focus to shoot the minimalist composition of "people, coffee cups, snow mountains" on the terrace of the camp. - **Evening** **After 18:00** shoot "Amber Twilight": herders lead camels along the lake, the sunset dyes the snow peaks golden red, and the lake gradually turns purple and gold. - **Overnight at Muyun Camp** - Choose **Snow Mountain View Room**, and shoot the Milky Way Arch Bridge at night (the camp has little light pollution, best after 23:00). - Tibetan costumes/Kirgiz costumes are available for rental in the camp scenic area, and starry sky portraits can be taken. --- ### 🏕 Accommodation recommendation: Muyun Camp (Karakul Lake Branch) - **Location advantage**: In the Karakul Lake Scenic Area, 140 meters south of the "Goodbye Fast Food Restaurant", facing Kongur Jiubie Peak and Muztagh Ata Peak. - **Check-in tips**: - Contact the hotel in advance to confirm the check-in time (call for non-standard hours). - Choose a second-floor room with an unobstructed view. The room is equipped with floor heating and a humidifier to combat the cold and dryness of the plateau. - Chinese/halal breakfast (88 yuan/person) is provided. Yak beef porridge and naan are recommended. - **Special services**: You can make an appointment for professional travel photography (camp cooperative photographer), bonfire party (requires team formation), and eagle flute performance. --- ### 📸 Travel photography skills | **Scene** | **Equipment recommendations** | **Creative photography methods** | |----------------|---------------------|-----------------------------| | Aerial photography of Muji Volcano | Drone (with polarizing filter) | Vertical overhead photography of the crater's "pupil" texture | | Reflection of morning fog on Lake Kashgar | 70-200mm telephoto | Symmetrical composition, 70% white space on the lake | | Starry sky at Muyun Camp | Large aperture lens + tripod | Contrast between warm light and cold Milky Way in the tent | | Humanities documentary | 35mm fixed focus | Capture the silhouette of a Ke ethnic elder making milk tea | --- ### ⚠️ Key points 1. **Border documents**: Muji Township belongs to the border area, and needs to apply for a free "Border Pass" at the Kashgar Global Tourism Service Center one day in advance, indicating "Kizilsu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture". 2. **Highland response**: Muji is 3,800 meters above sea level and Kahu is 3,600 meters above sea level. Do not take a shower on the first day of arrival. Prepare oxygen cylinders (available at Kashgar pharmacies or 2 bottles will be provided free of charge in the guest rooms in addition to the oxygen concentrator during stay at Muyun Camp) and glucose oral solution. 3. **Transportation suggestions**: Charter a car (about 800 yuan/day) or drive by yourself (choose SUV). There are many gravel roads in the Muji section. Drive slowly and use anti-explosion tires. 4. **Ecological protection**: It is forbidden to step on the crater, and drones are not allowed to fly outside the Kahu plank road (to avoid disturbing the herd). --- The magnificence of the Pamir Plateau reaches its peak in the collision between volcanoes and snow-capped mountains - the barren and fiery Muji and the tender and magical Kahu are finally blended into the same picture by the dusk. When the drone's buzzing startles the birds flying by the lake, and the camera freezes the cracked "eyes" of the earth, you will understand: this land forgotten by the gods is telling the epic of ice and fire in the most primitive language.
