The environment here is absolutely amazing, and being able to soak in the hot springs was incredibly relaxing. Breakfast was decent too. However, there were some real pain points. First off, I knew the hotel was on a mountain and that there was a shuttle service. But I didn't realize the shuttle and pedestrians use the same road to go up, which felt quite dangerous. Secondly, the shuttle schedule was infrequent. The biggest issue was that due to a landslide, the later sections of the Izukyu Line were suspended. The hotel's car picked us up at Katase-Shirata, but they wouldn't drop us off there for the return journey. They clearly had a driver picking people up at Katase-Shirata, so why couldn't they just take us with them? Plus, the front desk wasn't clear about this when I asked. The hotel car could only shuttle us to Shimoda Station, which wasted our time. It was a complete rip-off!
Located in a small onsen town, not much shop and restaurant within walking distance while the restaurants and supermarket are easy to access by car within 15min. The hotel itself is a bit aged while it is under upgrading and maintained clean and service standard. A free shuttle is provided to the public onsen in the main branch hotel 5 min drive away. The public onsen is very good with multiple bath pools and an outdoor pool. The place is a good base for us to explore the west and central Izu. Given the price in the area, very value for money and highly recommended.
I had a great stay at this hotel! It’s located just a short walk from the beach, which made it super convenient for relaxing seaside moments. The view from my room was absolutely beautiful — I could see the ocean clearly, especially during sunrise and sunset.
The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay. For the location and the view, I think the price was very reasonable. It’s a perfect choice for anyone looking to enjoy a beach getaway without breaking the bank.
I would definitely stay here again!
Even though I didn't get to use the hot springs, the scenery here is absolutely breathtaking! The service was also excellent, and the breakfast was delicious. What really stands out is the location – you can see the ocean right from your balcony, and there's a pool too. It's incredibly good value for money! Plus, the room had no weird smells and was very comfortable. I'd definitely come back here if I get the chance.
It's a bit out of the way, a 10-minute walk from the bus. However, the owner was very friendly and proactively asked guests if they needed to go to the convenience store or attractions. The room was spacious, and there was a saltwater hot spring to soak in. The breakfast buffet offered both Japanese and Western options, but reservations were required. It was delicious and highly recommended!
Located in Kona, 5.5 miles from Shuzen-ji Temple, Sakanaya Stay provides accommodations with a terrace, free private parking and a spa & wellness center. Featuring a garden, the 3-star motel has air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi, each with a private bathroom. Mount Daruma is 13 miles away and Hakone-Yumoto Station is 26 miles from the motel.
At the motel, every room includes a patio. All guest rooms will provide guests with a desk and an electric tea pot.
Koibito Misaki Cape is 26 miles from Sakanaya Stay, while Shuzenji Niji no Sato is 6.3 miles away.
The hotel's location, one bed and two meals, cleanliness, and service are all very satisfactory. The only drawback may be the old facilities and hardware. I hope there will be an opportunity to upgrade the hardware in the future, such as worrying about the room, bathroom, and updating the bedding (I hope the mattress is softer and there are more choices of pillows). I will definitely come again.
This is a very old hotel with dated facilities and an old-fashioned Japanese layout. Despite this, it's quite popular with Japanese guests, especially elderly Japanese who choose it for their holidays. The hotel has many rooms and is incredibly quiet. During my stay, there were also two local study camps present. While the hotel advertises a scheduled shuttle service to the station, in practice, you need to book and confirm with the front desk in advance, as the vehicle is small and can easily get full.

First of all, I would like to thank Ms. Yang at the front desk. Her sincere and enthusiastic introduction to the surrounding attractions and transportation was very helpful. Her attentive service definitely left a good first impression. The room was also very comfortable and clean, with all the necessary amenities. Our booked room had a private bath overlooking the sea, allowing us to relax whenever we wanted. Since we didn't have a car this time, it's about a ten-minute walk from JR Shimoda Station to the hotel. I recommend those with large luggage drive to the hotel or take a taxi. Regarding the meals, breakfast and dinner were both kaiseki cuisine, exquisite and plentiful. The only downside was that while dinner was different on the first two nights, it was the same on the third night, and we couldn't pay extra to change to other dishes. It felt a bit inflexible, but not a major issue. Overall, I would still highly recommend it!

CCtystal LiTurns out, this hotel is where I stayed on my very first trip to Japan! I didn't realize it when I booked, but it hit me after checking in. What a pleasant surprise and a wonderful coincidence! Soaking in the hot springs right on the ocean's horizon, facing the entire Pacific Ocean, the view was expansive, and my heart felt so free. It was an absolute treat 😎
YYiyepianzhouhuajingtaoThis is a very comfortable resort and spa hotel. It has a huge footprint and a typical American hotel style. The rooms are comfortable, and the balconies come with private hot spring baths that are kept at a constant temperature 24/7 with flowing hot water. It's a wonderful blend of Japanese onsen culture – meticulous yet incredibly relaxing – allowing you to enjoy a hot spring experience without even leaving your room. The breakfast is just standard for a five-star hotel, nothing as impressive as what you'd find at a Japanese hotel. The hotel is quite far from Shuzenji Station, but thankfully there's a shuttle bus available at platform 8 of the bus terminal.
GGuest UserBeautiful onsen — our favorite stay in Japan with my family! The traditional breakfast was delicious with a very large selection of dishes. The rooms are gorgeous, quiet, and spacious — and everything was exceptionally clean. The cleaning crew truly does an amazing job.
The reception staff were very friendly and helpful, making us feel warmly welcomed. The location is excellent, just a short walk from the train station, and having a washer and dryer available for guests was a big plus.
Highly recommended — we would love to stay here again!
GGuest UserI had a wonderful stay at Laforet Shuzenji Sanshisuimei. Overall, the experience was excellent and very relaxing.
I booked the Mt. Fuji Side Hot Spring Open-air Bath room, and it was absolutely worth it. The room was very spacious, clean, and thoughtfully designed. Having a private onsen bath in the room made the stay feel extra special. Soaking in the open-air bath while enjoying the peaceful mountain surroundings was truly unforgettable.
The location is tucked away in the mountains, which makes it perfect for those who value privacy, tranquility, and a quiet escape from the city. However, it may not be ideal for travelers looking for a highly convenient or easily accessible location. I drove there and would strongly recommend doing so. Complimentary parking is available, which made the trip very convenient.
One small note for future guests: toothbrushes are not provided in the room and need to be purchased at check-in, so it’s good to prepare in advance.
The only minor issue during my stay was that the temperature control for the private onsen bath in my room was not functioning perfectly. It would be great if this could be improved. That said, it did not take away from the overall enjoyment of the stay.
Overall, it was a fantastic and rejuvenating experience. I would definitely consider returning for another peaceful getaway.
GGuest UserTHIS WILL BE MY TOP 1 BEST HOTEL. I will definitely come back this hotel again. Loved the place, loved the room, the view, the experience. A friendly and lovely staff upgrade our room, and we had the BEST experience there. I will always appreciate the hospitality and experience there. We had great breakfast there, and we joined for the driving experience and speedway museum. LOVED IT!
RRita0729A quiet onsen town, with traditional Japanese rooms. It's slowly becoming commercialized, and fewer places offer dinner and breakfast served in your room these days. This stay, however, was a great experience. Since it was our anniversary, the staff even arranged for us to have a pair of mandarin ducks in our room. They took photos of us and gifted them to us at check-out, which was a lovely touch. We visited on a weekday, so the public bath felt almost like a private one. Enjoying the public bath all to ourselves, gazing at the ocean and listening to the waves, was incredibly relaxing. The hotel's shuttle bus is super convenient, getting guests to Izu-Atagawa Station in just a minute.

GGuest UserIt was a quaint, cozy hotel situated close to JR Atami Station. The hotel has very good food for both dinner and breakfast! The staff are friendly and even though they can't speak good English, they tried their best to communicate to the best of their knowledge and I really appreciate it! I especially enjoyed my time at the onsen on the rooftop, it has good facilities.
The only thing is the cleanliness of the room, since there is still water in the kettle from the previous guests, I didn't want to drink any water from the kettle because of it. They should replace it with a new kettle or clean it. Otherwise, the room is also very cozy, they give yukatas for guests to wear them around the hotel and they also offer free transport to JR Atami station. Otherwise, I would have struggled to get around since there is lack of public transportation at Atami!
I still have a very good time and enjoyed my time because of the friendly staff at the hotel, they are very helpful! 10/10 will come back again with my friends or family in the future.
CCHoddinottPerfect Family Base in Izukogen
Rating: 5/5
Hotel Village proved to be an outstanding choice for our family stay in Izukogen. The room size was ideal for families, providing comfortable space for everyone.
Highlights: The breakfast was fantastic with excellent variety and quality. The onsen was a real treat after busy days exploring, offering genuine relaxation for the whole family.
Location: Perfectly situated for visiting Mount Omuro and the local zoo. The area offers numerous attractions, and the hotel serves as an excellent base for exploring everything Izukogen has to offer.
Verdict: Highly recommended for families seeking comfortable accommodation with traditional Japanese amenities whilst exploring this beautiful region.
EE1186****The service here was actually problematic for a hot spring inn. They didn't even make up the futon beds for us. I had to call and ask them to, and even then, they didn't do it. They just opened the closet where the futons were stored, basically implying I should make the bed myself. The facilities are a bit old, but the location and views are great, and breakfast was good. Dinner was a bit simple. The hot springs themselves were excellent, with good views and facilities, making for a very comfortable experience.
