The hotel's location is quite convenient, about a ten-minute walk to the Reeperbahn. However, the hotel itself is old and a bit eerie. The room layout was messy, and the bed quality was so bad that my back hurt after just one night. There are definitely management issues here. I had pre-paid for my room through Trip.com, but the hotel double-charged my credit card. Even after I pointed it out, the charge still went through. I had to contact them through Trip.com and then email the hotel directly to get the duplicate charge refunded.
Trip.com showed an 11 AM checkout time, and from 11 AM onwards, a loud bell kept ringing in my room, about once a minute. When I asked the front desk about it during checkout, they said it was a daily fire alarm drill. However, when I mentioned this in my email to the hotel requesting a refund, they denied it, claiming their checkout time was 12 PM.
To make matters worse, I forgot my down jacket on the bed when I left. About two minutes later, I remembered and went back to retrieve it, only to find someone already cleaning the room. He asked if I was looking for clothes and pointed to the floor. My white down jacket was thrown on the floor with the bedsheets. I felt terrible at that moment. I had just left, and they were already cleaning, which means they saw me go. Why didn't they immediately notify the front desk to send my jacket there? This definitely doesn't feel like the service you'd expect from a chain hotel. There are clear problems with their service, management, and staff training. I'd advise everyone to avoid this place.
I had a comfortable stay at the Holiday Inn York. The hotel is conveniently located about a 10-minute ride from the train station using bus 840 or 843, which made getting there fairly easy. The room was clean, and the bed was very comfortable, providing a relaxing place to unwind after a day of exploring.
The only drawback is the distance to the Hop On Hop Off bus pick-up point. We either had to take another bus or walk about 20 minutes to reach the nearest stop, which wasn’t always ideal.
Overall, the hotel offers good comfort and cleanliness, but travelers relying on sightseeing buses should plan for a bit of extra travel time.
Having visited previously we were very much looking forward to spending 2 nights at The Feversham Arms. We were disappointed to see how tired the venue looked on the outside the sun was shining and we looked forward to spending the afternoon having lunch by the pool and Soaking up the sun.
The service was below par and the food was average despite being quite heavily priced. There wasn’t enough seats to accommodate the guests who all obviously wanted to do the same thing. The pool area had uplifted flags with weeds growing and the pool is in desperate need of repair. Having visited previously and been treated with kind and courteous staff I was disheartened by the attitude of some of the service staff, especially in the spa area and the alfresco dining area.
Check in was easy and the front desk, restaurant, and bar staff were great. The menu at the restaurant is very limited...not many healthy choices and very few starters for those who would just like small bites. There needs to be more restaurant and bar staff ! one person serving the bar and restaurant ? Not fair to staff or your guests. When we were there we were not told the restaurant was closing early because of a large tour group so my friend who joined us later was unable to order anything. The room was also quite dark so I would suggest adding more lighting. That being said, good location and clean!
We only used the accommodation for two nights without breakfast or any other meals. The room was very clean and had everything we needed. The staff were friendly and the coffee was great. The decor was really nice with a jazz feel. It was very quaint and vintage.
I would imagine a stay in the summer would be very nice as the courtyard was very pretty and peaceful.
Although this hotel is by no means modern, the service is good with friendly staff,, the rooms are clean, and it is perfectly situated for a day out shopping, or an evening out.
The hotel has a beautiful location. The antique building has been kept in excellent condition. We chose to stay in the Feature Double Room-old Hall. The room was very spacious, with seating area. A coffee machine was also available. Cool drinks in the fridge. Breakfast was delicious, individually cooked, with a wide choice. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend this hotel
The hotel was a pleasant surprise and very impressive. Both the rooms in the new wing and the old building were very satisfactory – spacious, clean, and offered great value for money. Personally, I preferred the new wing; it felt more comfortable and modern.
It's about a ten-minute walk to the old town, and York at night is even more enchanting, especially the hourly chimes of York Minster – absolutely captivating!
The hotel is just a stone's throw from York train station. There are many restaurants near the station, including York's largest Chinese supermarket and various Chinese restaurants and a cha chaan teng, which was great for satisfying a craving for Chinese food or stocking up on groceries.
The old city walls of York are right next to the hotel, and on a clear day, watching the sunrise or sunset from atop the walls is incredibly relaxing.
However, the hotel charges £39 per day for valet parking, which is seriously expensive. They overcharged us once, and despite multiple attempts, they refused to refund it. This definitely merits a bad review!
I mean a very standard hotel with standard amenities. Nothing is so wow in terms of service and the hotel itself. They need to clean the aircon by the way...clogged with poor air ventilation and noises. Also some foot prints on the wall. Regular maintenance is definitely required.
The hotel is very close to the train station, about a 5-minute walk through the city walls, which is very convenient. York city isn't large, and most attractions and shopping streets are within walking distance. We booked two rooms and arrived a little after 2 PM. The front desk initially thought we only had one room and assigned us a room on the first floor, ignoring our request for a higher floor. When I told him we had booked two rooms, he then said the other room could be on a higher floor, but we couldn't get the keys until after 3 PM. So, we had to take all our luggage to the first-floor room first. As soon as we opened the door, there was a strange smell, which got a little better after turning on the air conditioning. Since we were only staying for one night, we didn't bother to discuss it further. When we returned in the evening, we picked up the keys for the second room, which was on a higher floor. The cleanliness was noticeably better than the first-floor room, and there was no strange smell. Both rooms were quite spacious, which was a plus. Breakfast was semi-buffet style; you could order one hot dish, and then help yourself to bread, fruit, and other items.

Very Good
I had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The rooms were spacious, clean, and beautifully designed for comfort. The staff was friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. A perfect place for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. Highly recommended!
We were lucky enough to obtain an upgrade to a suite - and I have to say my wife and I were very impressed with the room. A wonderful four poster bed, the room design was unusual but most appreciated - one of my favourites to have stayed in. The hotel in general gave a good impression with good design features. Do be aware that there is not a lift available for all floors - but we were promptly asked if we needed any assistance. All interactions with the staff were friendly and professional - and for a couple of requests staff were always willing to work out how to help us. Breakfast - from a menu with a good selection available and friendly service. Car parking is available but you are advised to call the hotel to book a space (we did and grateful we did as it was otherwise full). It is not cheap at GBP25 a night - but the nearby public car park is a similar price - that is York car park prices.
We had a small issue with the twin bed upon arrival, but the front desk staff resolved it quickly and was very kind. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The sea view during breakfast was beautiful and made the morning especially enjoyable.
Beautiful hotel with extremely clean rooms and lovely spa facilities. It was quiet at night and had all the necessary home comforts to make it an enjoyable stay. Thank you!
Hotel was located across the road from the city walls. A 5min walk to the University of York St John. The amenities at the hotel were excellent. It had a small gym located opposite the main reception where guests had 24 hr reception. There was parking available on site at a cost of £25 for 24hr parking. May be cheaper elsewhere but it was very convenient. Staff allowed us to park for extra few hours free of charge. Although we did not pay for breakfast on site it was very well stocked and wildly used by other guests. Room was clean and modern. The A/C was not that affective and did not cool the room down. Which made it a little uncomfortable to sleep at night. It was a hot day and the room was located in a loft conversion. Heat would not normally be an issue.
The hotel is in a perfect position. The first room was a bit tatty and at back of hotel when asked they moved us straight away. The staff are very helpful and really pleasant. Great place for a short break. Was just me and my little dog and he was made very welcome. Would love to return. Photo is the view from our room 😊
Fantastic friendly staff and lovely, modern, clean and well kept rooms and hotel. Would stay again. Location was very good but not perfect hence the 4/5.
CchristanneWe booked a standard double as we only wanted somewhere to have dinner and lay our heads to break 2 long journeys. We were prepared for a 'tired' looking room and it was, in fact just that. HOWEVER, both the room and bathroom were spotless; the bed absolutely huge with nice linens and the shower in the morning was spot on for temperature. Service from beginning to end was fantastic and, though I didn't have it myself, my husband said the breakfast was excellent. We travel both locally and internationally a lot and i rarely comment as many 4-5* hotels just go through the motions however, I wanted to give this hotel and team a well deserved shout out. We shall certainly be back and recommend to anyone looking for a very good place to stay on the outskirts of York.
