The environment of the inn is very good. There is a lively market right outside the door. The service attitude of the store is very good 👍 If it is not a holiday, I really want to stay there for a few more days. I will stay at his house next time I come!

This Inn is managed by a family that is very nice. Once you arrive from the train station (Pingyaogucheng) with a taxi, they come to pick you up to the Inn (2 min) because the taxi isn't allowed inside the ancient city. They offer to drive you one way to or from the train station (it's free). I was in a room with a traditional atmosphere (with a kang bed having a mattress a little harder than others).

We spent two wonderful nights at Yungang Hotel in Datong. First of all, our deepest gratitude to Yang wen yuan - 杨文元. When booking from Europe, we did not realise correctly the time required to get to the caves and to the hanging monastery (a must view when in Datong). We thought that by using public transport we could manage to do both in a short period of time. So wrong! We arrived and Yang wen yuan - 杨文元 reassured us and in less than 30 minutes he was able to help and book for us a private car for the next day. He made our stay unforgettable. Thanks a lot from both of us if you are reading ! Plus, this hotel is wonderful : super new, technological and the staff is super kind (from the ones in the lobby to the ones in the restaurant/cafeteria). Breakfast is amazing. You can have everything, freshly made for you.

If you're only in Datong for a short time then location matters. The hotel tries hard with free canned drinks, welcome dessert and friendly staff but there are no shops next to the hotel at all although you can walk to a local neighbourhood about 700-800m away. The old city wall is not exactly near even if you can see parts of it from your hotel window. There is no subway in Datong so if you're interested in attractions in the old town then you need to factor in taxi costs unless you fancy a bit of a walk in the bitter cold. Breakfast is very local and very substantial.

To get the hotel from Datong South Railway Station by bus no.31 from the bus station side(the area is connected), take around 30 minutes to get there (Yungang Jianguo hotel, the hotel is opposite, only 2 CNY, many food and minimart around there. There is Muslim food there if need(next to the entrance of C(behind the building). Nice service, self check-in, clean room and relaxing. the owner, you should to contact the owner before arrive, she so friendly and always help you, she suggested us about the famous local food and restaurants(Thank you so much). If you need to buy some necessary item and cannot buy at the around minimart, you can walk to the Yonghui Superstore by East side (the next junction) turn right to Yuhe West rd. (At the corner). From the hotel tobget Yungang Grottoes, you can take bus no. 31 (Yungang Jianguo side), get off at Shi Li Dian Cun Xi ( West Shilidian village), cross to another side and catch bus no.12 to the terminal stop(is Yungang Grottoes. Take 1 hour or 1.30 to get there.

I brought the elderly and children to Datong for a trip and booked a deluxe family room. The room was big enough, clean, and fully equipped. There were free tea, mineral water, and snacks at the front desk. There were Chinese and Western food for breakfast, and the dishes were quite rich. I had the knife-cut noodles here for breakfast for two consecutive days. I personally feel that it is better than the oriental knife-cut noodles I ate outside. It is not far from the ancient city, and a taxi is basically 10 yuan. You can also make an appointment for free pick-up and drop-off service at the front desk. The front desk brother who received me on the day of check-in was also very nice and actively helped to solve some minor problems. Overall, the accommodation experience was very good!

The whole courtyard is a Qing Dynasty building with a sense of age. The decoration in the room is great, the sanitary conditions are also very good, the boss is very enthusiastic, the explanation is very detailed, and the restaurant recommended to us in the ancient city is also very delicious. Another wonderful stay with the lovely Pipa Inn. If you travel to the gorgeous old town of Datong, this is where you must stay!!! The staff are so friendly, the rooms and hotel are beautiful, great location in the middle of the old town and the inn can arrange a driver to get you to all the historical sights. Highly recommend.

The room is large, and the upstairs is quiet, clean, and thoughtfully provides disposable bath towels and toilet seats, as well as body lotion and facial cleanser. The proprietress is kind and friendly. Datong is not cold at the end of October. Come and experience the charm of ancient buildings in Shanxi! A small suggestion, it would be more convenient to install a full-length mirror behind the door.

The location is good, 1km away from the ancient city wall, 15 minutes walk; there is Parkson Mall nearby, not far from other hotels; 10-15 minutes by taxi from Datong South Railway Station, 10km. The restaurant has a buffet breakfast, the content is different every day; there are free fruits in the hotel lobby; parking is available in front of the hotel; the hotel does not provide bicycles. When we arrived we were given the wrong room in B tower with single beds, we had to go back downstairs and show the booking again to request the correct double room in A tower. The rooms and amenities are old, and the fridge is broken. I called reception who told me to bring any items I want to cool down to the reception and use their fridge, when I asked if we can swap the broken fridge for a working fridge, they said all of the fridges are like this. They won't admit the fridges are all broken, but all of the fridges in the hotel are warm and won't make your food / beverages cold. The hotel is in dire need of an upgrade, and they need to replace the fridges.

Amazing location, right next to taiyuan south rail station. But it is far from town. It is great if you are just catching the fast train. Service is fine but nothing extraordinary. It is very clean. Spread at breakfast is decent but no coffee. If you need coffee, don't come here

This is the best and value for money hotel I stayed in last 12 days trip from Beijing, Datong, Taiyuan, Pingyao, Xian. The room is nice, breakfast is good, hotel room even provide you with a washing machine in tge room with detergent free. Highly recommended and great for longer stay. Cheers

Excellent central location steps away from the best street, very friendly and helpful manager who helped us with a car and laundry. The room was clean, with a big bed and great bathroom/shower, good AC too. Everything was perfect

The hotel is really nice and in the authentic style of Pingyao. It is quite closed from the east gate and from the ancient city center. The owner is really friendly, speaks good English and is doing everything to make you enjoy your stay. He did explained very well all the activity and provide help if needed. The room is clean and we didn't care about the size as we were out all day. If I have to suggest one thing, it will be to have bigger mattresses as they are quite hard but it's a personal preference.

The hotel is registered as one of the historical buildings in Pingyao ancient city. The hotel is beautiful, decorated with wooden ancient-style windows and doors with small courtyard in front of our room. Inside the room is modern style, spacious and high ceiling while the outside yields an ancient atmosphere. We also like the hotel location. It is in a quiet area but easy to commute to many attraction spots with not a too long distance walking. We have no complaint on overall facilities. The owner and his wife are also friendly and helpful.
