Pullman Taiyuan

Having lived in private residence at an overseas Pullman Hotel, this Pullman is different. Pros: - Very professional, presentable, helpful, prompt, and well spoken multi-lingual staff at reception and breakfast (staff member Ivo is exemplary of these qualities, also Zhao fengpei (gentlemen on the door who helped me with my bag and the car door), and the gentleman that was by the door at check-in who helped expedite the check-in process). - Comfy beds and pillows. - The softest and best bathrobes! - Yoga mat in the room in a nice touch Cons: - A general issue across most hotels is enforcing the non-smoking policy. Unfortunately there was a group of men smoking in the lobby (despite the non-smoking signs), one elevator smelled of cigarette smoke, the a/c seemed to recirculate this smell, and I had to change rooms the second day as the smell of old cigarette smoke was embedded into the pillows and you could smell it every time you walked into the room. Therefore it triggered my asthma. Although they were very busy, I was able to change rooms after the first night. - Unfortunately the executive lounge was not open and your only other option is the lobby. - No spa - Only one restaurant open at night and no room service - Is in need of more regular general maintenance Room for improvement: - While the lounge is unavailable it would be helpful to communicate this to your executive room guests when checking-in or on the booking website which it wasn’t. My husband had to prompt this conversation at check-in. But it was clear there was no set alternative, that is, just go to the lobby lounge and have what you like (no timing, no specifics). This led to confusion for the staff members in the lounge. To save time for staff and the customer, a simple bulleted list on an A4 sheet is what Kempinski do. Perhaps a note on the guests profile or the room number should suffice. - Slightly envious that the other reviewers were upgraded. We were supposed to be upgraded from the executive room for free as a platinum member but that never happened. However, it was good that Kelly offered the minibar, and some drinks and cakes at the lobby lounge as free. - Also, our first executive room 1710 was dark, windows were filthy, it was run down and had no Nespresso machine (compared to 1805 which was the same room type but a lot better).

I did enough research before coming here and saw this B&B. I called for consultation at nearly 10 o'clock in the evening and was extremely patient in explaining. After arriving, I was not disappointed. The two children loved it. The aunt would usually lock the door, so the children could Feel free to play in the yard. When we were about to arrive, we told the time. Auntie turned on the air conditioner in advance and prepared fruit tea, which was super heart-warming. Breakfast was also extremely rich every day, and it was very cozy for the whole family to sit in the yard and eat. This B&B is right next to the commercial street. You can go shopping when you go out, but you can't hear the noise when you are in the yard. It is very close to Zini and Longjutang. It can be reached in a few minutes on foot. At night, it is just a short walk away. You can go to the city wall, admire the lights, and ride a bicycle together as a family. Huayan Temple and Shanhua Temple are also nearby and can be reached on foot. Finally, I must say that the aunties at the B&B are all super nice. They are very nice and kind in both morning and evening shifts. I will definitely recommend this to my friends and will stay here again next time.

Inside Pingyao Ancient City
I took my parents-in-law to Pingyao to stay in a very distinctive inn! The ancient courtyard is paved with ancient bricks, and the overall mortise and tenon structure highlights the characteristics of Pingyao Shanxi merchants' wealth and exquisiteness! The lights are bright at night, and it is very beautiful! The boss is a real Pingyao person. He will contact the guests as soon as possible, drive to the outside of the ancient city to pick up the guests in the store for free, and is the only boss who will introduce the knowledge of various attractions in Pingyao Ancient City in detail! Staying in his house will give you a detailed guide to visit the ancient city! From the five A-level attractions to the top three time-honored restaurants with the best price-performance ratio, they are introduced one by one, and the boss will remind you to take the exclusive meal discount card when you go out, which is very considerate! The proprietress is young, beautiful, meticulous and capable! Before leaving, I also gave a souvenir of Shanxi Laochen vinegar! His family's ground jar cellar 53 degrees must be tried, it is mellow and not heady! Laochen vinegar is even better! And his house is very, very close to the main street, South Street (city building), but it is not as noisy as the main street at night. It is a rare five-star inn! I will stay at his house next time I go to Pingyao👍👍

The location is very convenient, right in the ancient city, parking is also convenient, there is a patio on the second floor, very unique, the room is big enough. The boss also gave me a fruit plate and a set of small tea sets. The next day, the aunt at the front desk wanted to give it to me, but I said it had already been given to me. It was so warm. I recommend staying in this hotel when you come to Datong Ancient City!

Changfeng Street/Qinxian Commercial Area
In the past when I go to Taiyuan I always stayed at Pullmans next to FuLi Xinhualing area. I decided to give this hotel a try due to its location and convenience. Location is very convenient, calling a cab is easy, Starbucks next door, shopping centers all round with food courts, Walmart is 10 minutes walk away. Hotel got a pool and gym, I used it and it is not bad at all. They kept the pool and the gym pretty clean. The rooms are also kept clean. Be mindful that the rooms are not design for privacy. If you are staying with another person in the room the bathroom + shower has clear glasses, they have a see through shades covering the glasses but you can still see everything inside. The rooms seems to be smoke free but the hall ways are always filled with smoke smell. They really do not enforce no indoor smoking rule here. It is a hit and miss on the non-smoking room. I see some guest smoking in their rooms with door open. At last the service. The front desk staff seems very cordial and nice. However on the day we are checking out they informed us that one of the towels we used has dye on it which they can not wash out, that came out to a whopping 100 yuan to replace the towel. Really? 100 yuan, I can get a dozen white towels in Walmart. Also, the claim they couldn't clean it was shown to me on a front desk staff's personal phone. Have you ever heard of bleach before? Seriously, you can not get a white towel cleaned? Is this hotel in the hospitality business or linen retail business? Since I was in a hurry to catch a train I didn't want to argue over something as petty as 100 yuan. I paid the fees and left. Next time I am in Taiyuan again I probably will go back to Pullman hotel. Smoke smell is not a problem and they never give me a hard time on something as petty as a towel.

Inside Pingyao Ancient City
Great place in Pingyao. It is reasonably priced, a bit out of the very center (meaning also out of tourists crowds that can be quite noisy in the evenings and mornings), but still close, has same old-style design as the more popular and well-established places that cater to foreigners, but priced twice as much. Pick-up and drop off service is provided - just contact the hotel in advance via phone using the reception of tour previous hotel - no one speaks English - it will solve your communication issue if you do not speak Chinese. At the place itself everyone is very eager to help - use your phone app to translate. Onwer helped me to buy tickets to Pingyao attractions and Terracota Army as I was heading to Xian next (available only through WeChat Pay that is in turn is not availablefor foreign tourists as of April 2023). If you go to Shuanglin temple, be sure to ask to buy tickets through WeChat for you as well. I was able to buy physical one by pure compassion of local guard who asked the staff to open ticket office just for me (Probably was the only foreigner in Pingyao at a time). Please also note that as of April 2023, the reconstruction works in the historical city parts are continuing, so, large chunks of the city within the walls are not looking as great as it could have been. The very center of the city is mostly untouched though and you can still come and explore. If going in spring, be prepared for the temperature swings. I got a temperature drop from 28C to 3C within 2 days by the moment I got to Pingyao. It was even snowing at night.

The overall accommodation environment is good, the service attitude of the waiter is also very good, but more attention should be paid to details. The hygiene in the corners is a bit poor, I hope it can be improved. The toilet in the bathroom is not heated, and the curtains are manual. It is good to deliver drinks. The hotel is close to the ancient city and it is convenient to travel.

If you want to explore the ancient town of Pingyao, then this hotel is fantastic. It's 15mins away from the high speed railway. They pick up and drop out off outside the city. With the covid regulations in place, the hotel supported me through the process and helped me gain entry into the city. I was then collected and driven to the hotel. Check-in was smooth and the lady helped me to book tickets for the Pingyao theatre show at the same time. I received a free upgrade from a double room to a suite. All in all, a fantastic holiday, and a great experience.

Wuye Temple
Located near to Taiyuan town bus station. Can walk to the hotel from bus station, or if u tired of walking, can take the public bus from 普化寺 stop to 友谊路口 stop. (FOC, all public bus in Taiyuan Town does not need to pay bus fare). Only one bus stop to the hotel. Very good location. Walking distance to the centre of Taiyuan Town temples. Cos, public buses sometimes are packed, Can choose walking if not tired. Traffic jam in the morning too. Outside hotel is shopping street of the town. Hotel are near to 3 vegetarian restaurants. Can buy flowers baskets and fruits baskets from the shopping street flower n fruits stores if u wanna offering to Buddha. Flowers baskets are huge, price from RMB80. Fruits baskets RMB100. If buy from store outside temples, price might be more than shopping street price. The hotel boss and staffs are very friendly and helpful. Always distributing bottles drinks to us when we leaving hotel. Helped us book van to wutaishan mountain 5 terraces. And helped us book car for our one day trip out of the central, to the temples which are not so accessible by public buses (清凉寺,金阁寺, 竹林寺 and etc). Car booking half day trip is RMB300, full day RMB500. Recommended to book car, less walking up slope, driver can park car straight to temples car park. Thumb up for the hotel services! Thank you! We have a great and memorable trip.

The location is very good, and it is very convenient to walk to any scenic spot in Datong Ancient City; the hotel room is very exquisite, with the atmosphere of a courtyard homestay; although the breakfast is simple, the knife-cut noodles are very good, better than what we have eaten in five-star hotels; the children like the environment of the homestay very much; the owner also gave souvenirs when we left.
