Top rated hotels in Wisconsin

AmericInn by Wyndham Prairie du Chien

We planned a weekend getaway. We thought we would use Wyndham points which is why we chose it to begin with. We arrived about 15 minutes before check in and were told our room wasn’t ready yet. So we thought we’d check in and leave to go explore- but they wouldn’t even do that. Just seemed kind of silly. Everything was just ok- hence the three stars. Patio was definitely a fall hazard with lol the loose boards popping up and everything out there was broken. It also wasn’t pretty. Walking into our room we were greeted with a musty smell. The carpet in the room felt gummy and gross. The tv is only cable -no apps. The bed was mid.
The Simplicity Inn

I recently stayed at the Hillcrest Motel (simplicity inn - new name) and had read the negative reviews. I needed to stay near the Marshfield Clinic because a family member was in ICU, this was the closest option. When we pulled in I was a tad skeptical because it's a bit rough outside. However, the new owners of less than a month are absolutely amazing - Darby, Brian and Harvey made our stay incredible. They are gracious hosts and went out of their way to accommodate us. They have made many improvements and are making more everyday! I hope I never have to go back to Marshfield but if I do I'm staying at the SIMPLICITY INN (Hillcrest is sold and gone). Super 8 by Wyndham Portage
3.9/597 Reviews
One of the worst places in Portage. I was advised not to book here but it was my closest and most cost effective option. Staff were fine upon entry however I was booked into a 1st floor room that had a broken screen and the window would not stay shut. I tried for 45+ minutes to realign it to stay shut and after that went to the front desk to ask for a different room. The staff instead asked to see it for themselves and came to the room and ”fixed” it, via the same method I was trying. After a few minutes, he said it was fine and left the room. Less than an hour later, the window popped back open and I requested a different room. I asked for 1st floor since there is NO ELEVATOR - and I have several pieces of luggage. They instead booked me in the very last room on the 2nd floor. I asked for a 1st floor or something closer and they told me it was all they had. I then called customer service and was told there are actually 13 open rooms here with 3 of them on the 1st floor. The staff weren't honest and choose to make my stay difficult. Did not offer to help me carry bags or offer any sort of refund even tho I was going from a king to queen. I would NEVER recommend Super 8 and especially this one.
Skyview Inn

Great experience. Very clean and comfortable. Only a sheet and bedspread so if you’re particular about blankets you might bring your own. Good size fridge. Television has tons of channels. Decor is outdated but we appreciated its charm. Burlington is a biggert town than we expected with some nice restaurants. We enjoyed our stay.
Red Roof Inn Madison, WI

This property has proven to be a reliable stop while driving across country. I have stayed here numerous times and it is comfortable. The location is great and there are many amenities close by including a Perkins across the street. The staff is accommodating and the price is right. Most importantly they take Cats for no additional fee. As a point of information, many places will take dogs but not Cats.
Chalet Motel Mequon
4.3/599 Reviews
I went back & forth between a 2 & 3 rating, ending up with a 3 because I slept well. How the overall rating is so high is beyond me. I really wanted to give the Chalet a high rating due to many fond memories of family visits at the hotel & meals at the cafe. Good marks: quiet & clean, fresh linens, comfortable mattress Bad marks: looks like a dump from the outside, the hotel is in dire need of a couple coats of paint & general exterior maintenance. The paint has peeled in many places down to the bare wood. Our door frame & door looked battered. (If we had just driven past we would not have selected it due to its appearance.) Decor: dated & drab (our room didn’t resemble the photos. Our bathroom, while clean, was very dated & the shower door is in need of maintenance. Facilities: we set the AC unit to 73°, I would say it kept our room at a stuffy 78°. The TV, while it was indeed a flat screen, wasn’t HD. You don’t realize how spoiled we’ve become until you try to watch a “low def” TV. The front desk area does not give a good impression. The clerks were professional and nice. This place was a gem, but we will not go back, unless the property is improved.
River Valley Inn & Suites
3.9/553 Reviews
The River Inn and Suites was very clean, well maintained, friendly front desk and in the lovely and quaint town of Osceola WI. Be sure to see the waterfalls about a mile from the hotel. We ate at a Mexican restaurant about a couple miles out of town. The best chimichangas we have ever had and we have been to many Mexican resort cities. Five ⭐️ stars for the restaurant, hotel and town.

I and my husband had nice stay here with boat tour ride as well small bbq at the hotel. their pool facility is so larger where we spent most of our time. their breakfast buffet provide enough refresh our morning. this place kind of old but from inside it great. staff was helpfull and provide services every day.
Super 8 by Wyndham Janesville
3.6/595 Reviews
It’s old and musty, first floor is actually below the parking lot or “garden level” which I don’t think is safe. But the real problem is the management. I stayed for a long weekend and they double charged me for no showing on a second reservation. While I was staying with me. The manager wouldn’t speak directly with me at all, it took me calling 20 times a day for 5 days straight before I could even get someone to answer to resolve the issue. And they still charged me $35 in cancellation Fees for a reservation I didn’t make. I was already staying with them, and not one employee or manager thought to check if there was some kind of mistake. I called Wyndham corporate and they only had proof of my original reservations, so how did this second one get made? I didn’t make it but they still charged me and i had to really fight to get even a Portion of my money back. They refuse a total refund because I no showed. I was already there, I didn’t make a duplicate reservation, how could i have possibly cancelled a reservation I didn’t Know existed? Terrible service and a shady manger. They also own the quality inn in Janesville, so I wouldn’t stay there either. I’d sooner sleep in my car, cheaper, cleaner, and safer.
Darlington Inn

Came for family reunion. Hotel is dirty, needs some serious renovations & repairs. Linens & towels very worn and discolored dirty looking. Bed hard as a rock. Bathroom & room walls were all beat up and carpet filthy. Room reaked of mold/mildew. Next time will definitely look for Airbnb or something more stayable. Would not recommend this dive.
