Top rated hotels in North Carolina

Days Inn by Wyndham Goldsboro

Good value for money. Clean and comfortable bed. They accommodated our request for a room on the quieter side of the hotel. Not top end accommodation but a good middle of the road motel. Would stay again. Good value for money.
Baymont by Wyndham Elizabeth City

The hotel is clean and I'm glad it's non smoking. They had a sign that they had cocoa, but they didn't have any. I got locked out of my room a couple of times, but the front clerk helped me. I liked the fitness center, except one of the machines didn't work. The walls are kind of thin. I could hear the couple in the next room **********.
Super 8 by Wyndham Charlotte University

Better than expected. The location is very good, it is convenient to eat next to it, there are barbecues and McDonald's. It is also very close to the city of Charlotte. The breakfast is normal, very clean and has no peculiar smell.
Howard Johnson by Wyndham Greensboro Near the Coliseum

I was here in the Greensboro area for job interviews, due to a great prospect and wanting me to do additional face to face interviews I had to extend my stay an additional 3 days, this put me at 08 days at the hotel. One of the hotel staff came to my room and informed me that if I was planning to stay any longer that I would have to vacate the hotel for 72 hours then I would be welcome to stay up to an additional 6 days, then I would have to check out for 72 hours once again. I asked what the reason for it was and they said it was company policy, that they are doing this because they don't want people living out of the hotel. I wish I had known this before booking the additional 3 days because I wouldn't have stayed there. They are advertising that the price of the room includes Free Breakfast, totally untrue they have had ample time to remove this statement. The reason why they are not offering breakfast is due to the Covid 19 pandemic, correct me if I'm wrong but the pandemic is over two years old.

Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Thomasville/High Point/Lexi

This stay was not quite as good as before. The room was a double room, not a queen room as I paid for and it was very hot. I do not think the air had been on in the room for days. The elevator was broke so everyone was having to use the stairs although the desk clerk said just push it open and closed and it will be okay.
Red Roof Inn & Suites Wilson

I foolishly thought Red Roof Inn was a clean economical hotel to spend one night needed for an appointment. After being in the room a few minutes, My eyes began to burn. I spoke to the front desk and was told to open the door. (keep in mind this is beside I-95). I did this and it seemed to get better. I went out for dinner and when I got back, it was even worse. I began wheezing and had a horrible headache. I had spent time trying to get the TV to work... but then I noticed the filth in the room.. Rusty lamp and bedframe.... Rust comes from moisture.. and excessive moisture grows mold. I had to leave and pay for another hotel a few miles away. I complained and even contacted corporate. The only refunded $20.00 out of 74! I did not use anything in the room.. I did not even sit on the bed.. Let the pictures here show you the real rooms. The pictures they show are not anywhere near the one I was in (room 101)
Red Roof Inn Charlotte - University
3.2/594 Reviews
As I have said in previous reviews, my frugal husband has a strange loyalty to Red Roof Inns, and they are often clean and comfortable and most importantly, dog friendly. This one was neither clean nor comfortable and despite the name, it is also not in the University area. It is in a sketchy industrial area amidst a bunch of trucking companies. When we checked in, I went to use the restroom and noticed that the floor looked dirty. I wiped the floor with a damp washcloth and it not only came away brown, but also wiped up actual chunks of dirt. I mentioned this to the gentleman on duty (it was evening), who was very apologetic, and said that the cleaning people were gone for the day but would definitely make sure it was clean in the morning. Long story short, that did not happen, and the floor remained disgusting. Please see my photos which show the dirty floor, the nasty old shower seat, the light switch and refrigerator which have clearly not been cleaned in a very long time, much less sanitized. The hallway had a stronger smell of **** than my son’s high school car, and in the evenings it would seep into our room. The TV is very small and very old. The deadbolt in our room did not work at all. The air conditioning system was approximately as loud as a jet engine, but it did block any noise from the hall. I am a wheelchair user and booked an accessible room, so I will describe the accessibility features in case anyone makes the ill-advised choice to book here. The “accessible“ entrance is up a small ramp which ends directly at the door which has to be opened outward. A wheelchair user must be able to simultaneously avoid rolling backwards down the hill while pulling the heavy door open. Inside that door is a key card access door to the lobby. There was plenty of space in the room itself to maneuver, and the floors are laminate. Beds are an appropriate height for manual wheelchair users. Lighting above the bed is impossible to reach without standing beside the bed or kneeling on the bed. The bathroom sink is a little high, but I was able to see in the mirror and to brush my teeth. There are rails behind and to the right of the toilet, but it is not possible to maneuver a wheelchair parallel to the toilet. There is a shower over the tub and a low built-in seat on the far end of the tub, BUT the bathroom door opens inward, and once my wheelchair was in the bathroom it was not possible to close the door so that I could get into the shower/tub. Seriously, give this one a pass.
Red Roof Inn Chapel Hill - Unc
3.4/598 Reviews
We booked a last minute trip to Chapel Hill for a local event on 11/13/21, and the booking process was pleasant and reassuring. The reality of the facility was anything BUT those qualities. The entire building and grounds are run down and generally uncared for - loose garbage, cigarette butts, and sticky pools of dark liquid in all the stairwells and walkways. Our room, 201, was clearly labeled as Non-Smoking but as soon as we entered ... the smell of stale cigarettes and mildew was overpowering. It was so bad I'd describe it by saying you could taste the smell through your skin! Nasty. We tried to make a go of it, but by 10:30 that night it was unbearable / unbreathable ... and we checked out. The night manager was very apologetic, and when we told him we were in 201 he literally said, he would ”never put anyone in 201” ... I personally doubt any other rooms were better based on the overall appearance of the hotel. The night manager also said he was not authorized to give us a partial refund but to call back the next day and speak to the manager, ”Nick”. We did call the next day and were told ”Nick” was not available, but should be back in a day or two, and the person I was speaking to could not help me. He took a message he said he would make sure ”Nick” received.... we never got a call back. We won't waste our money or time here again, and recommend you don't as well. *And I have to wonder if the high star ratings here are from paid responders. I cannot imagine this property being higher than a 2, even if you did luck into a clean-ish room.
