Edmonton, Alberta's Festival City 🎉
#hiddengems
My trip to Edmonton unfolded as an exploration of a vibrant Canadian city that embraces culture, sports, and the great outdoors. Here's a snapshot of my Edmonton journey:
🏞️ **River Valley Serenity:** Edmonton's expansive River Valley park system, ideal for hiking, biking, and nature enthusiasts, provides a serene escape. The North Saskatchewan River winds through, offering breathtaking views and outdoor pursuits.
🏙️ **Downtown Energy:** The downtown core buzzes with activity. Whether shopping along Jasper Avenue or exploring the Art Gallery of Alberta, there's always something captivating.
🎭 **Festival Hub:** True to its "Canada's Festival City" moniker, Edmonton hosts a multitude of festivals, including the renowned Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival and the Edmonton Folk Music Festival.
🏒 **Hockey Fervor:** Home to the Edmonton Oilers, hockey is ingrained in the city's culture. Witnessing a game at Rogers Place is an exhilarating experience.
Edmonton, with its spirited festivals, outdoor allure, and cultural vibrancy, is a city that revels in life's celebrations. The seamless blend of urban landscapes and natural beauty provides a distinctive tapestry of experiences for both visitors and locals.

JaytravelsEdmonton - One Day Trip
Went on a one day trip to Edmonton last Sunday (flew from Vancouver). Here are a few tips:
The best option getting in town from the airport (EIA) used to be the sky shuttle service, which unfortunately is currently suspended (Sep 2023). However the route 747 bus is quite convenient still if you can afford to wait a little (one per hour in the afternoon). Do remember to bring a $5 cash bill for the bus fare.
Once arrive at Century Park (the bus/LRT transit hub), look for a Rexall drug store near by for the 10 ticket bus fare pack. The tickets are good for both bus and LRT trains. Validate the ticket by stamping it at the kiosk prior boarding the train.
Downtown is rather compact and walkable. Art gallery, Library etc all within 5 mins walking distance. Ample food choices from western to decent Chinese dim sums.
UA (University of Alberta) is also within a few LRT stops. Nice and sizable campus with lots of energy.
There was a bit of smog in the city due to recent forest fires but eventually the sky cleared up amd the sun came out, nice.
Next time will try check out West Edmonton mall and report back...

Farmers Market in Edmonton
Edmonton’s Old Strathcona Farmer’s market is located on Whyte Avenue and is open only on Saturdays (8:00-15:00). The exterior of the market is built with red bricks, which is very distinctive. There are many stalls in the market selling home-grown agricultural products and handicrafts. It is worth a visit on weekends!
There is a truck selling popcorn and marshmallows outside the market. I recommend their Sweet and Salty Popcorn! #Edmonton #Old Strathcona Farmer Market

Getting Ready before Jasper Trip
#hotelreview
My recent stay at Fairfield Inn Edmonton Airport was a seamless blend of convenience and comfort near Alberta's capital. We were starting our trip to the Rockies from Edmonton and this was our first stop right after we landed in Edmonton.
Its proximity to the airport was such a blessing as we were super tired after the flight and just wanted to rest quick. Costco next door also spoiled us with hot dogs and poutine🍽️✈️
For travelers seeking a practical and comfortable stay in Edmonton, Fairfield Inn Edmonton Airport is the perfect choice for a hassle-free visit to Jasper and Banff ⛰️

Up and coming, trendy E-town
Edmonton is Alberta's capital city and is often known to be a boring town. However, if you look a bit further, the city has plenty to offer.
Most importantly the city offers great outdoors fun. The Edmonton River Valley is a great place to walk along the river and get sweeping views of the city, this all being 5 mins from the city center.
Have a look around downtown and it's skyline. Also make a stop at the Alberta Legislative Building, which does have a more rustic feel to it as it's mostly in stone.
Moving across the river you'll come across the Old Strathcona district which is a hipper and trendier side of Edmonton which you'll find restaurants and shops.
Overall, Edmonton is not a huge city but still has some nice sights to visit. You'll not only be greeted by not only a city but also nature and friendly people. It's also easy to get around with the tram system!
