Braving the icy temperatures, we started our journey early, reaching the upper stream by 7:30 a.m. to witness the breathtaking rime ice aka ‘WuSong’ formations—an enchanting spectacle of frosty beauty. The rafting route offered thrilling moments, especially at two exciting rapid spots that added a burst of adrenaline to the serene winter landscape. The combination of speed, splashes, and icy air created an unforgettable experience that redefined winter sports for me. Tip: Be sure to wear waterproof clothing—you might get splashed, and the winter chill is no joke. With proper gear, you’ll enjoy every moment of this thrilling ride. This white-water rafting experience is a perfect addition to your new year adventure bucket list—a mix of natural wonder and heart-pumping fun that captures the spirit of winter exploration!

This was a last minute decision. We decided to visit Jilin for a two days one night trip from Harbin. We were not disappointed. We witnessed the five stars rime in the early morning the very next day. Such an amazing experience. The sheer beauty of the place together with its rime makes this place such a charm. We took the less travelled route and went with a Homestay off the beaten path. The owner was so helpful and experience , he brought us to a place that is absolutely 0 tourist. Here are some ideas of how we travelled there. Bought a train ticket from Harbin to Jilin station in advance. Once we arrived at Jilin, decided to take a Didi ride into the wusong lake area. Costing us about rmb70. Going in to the Homestay area was relatively easy. Coming out to the train station was quite a challenge but fret not, as the Homestay owner helped us arranged the transport the very next day. Had our dinner at the house after witnessing a spectacular sunset as shown in the photo. All photos are taken with iPhone. Please bear with the pixels. Woke up next morning greeted with a lovely morning magical moment near the river. Best of all, we did not need to pay for any entrance tickets at all. Like I said, this was off the beaten path. Took plenty of photos before the rime melts away. On our way back, we witnessed the traditional wedding ceremony that was the icing on the tour itself. What a way to wrapped up the trip to Jilin. Such a remarkable experience. Never have we witnessed a wedding with a groom on a horse ride itself. Thank you for such wonderful experience. With hardly any info available in English and little clear info available in Chinese, here’s my experience of Changbaishan & Tianchi. • You CAN just show up on the day BUT you should book tickets in advance on the WeChat account if you can. It’s only in Chinese but if you have someone to help you translate - it’s the exact same way you’ll buy a ticket if you just show up on the day and this way you guarantee getting a ticket. • ONLY WeChat pay or card. No cash, even in person. • Tianchi is extra cost (but no additional booking needed, just add it when purchasing your ticket). • Tianchi closed on bad weather days. • Stay in Erdaobaihe, go to north area yourself and next day book a trip to west area with Trip.com. • You’ll need a whole day here. Lots to do and lots of waiting around for the buses at various drop off points. There’s no real maps or sineage that are useful but at the same time there’s no way to go off the tourist trail. Just follow everyone and you’ll get to see everything! • Not many food options so bring some picnic. • Recommend going earlier as some attractions close at 2:30 (incl.
