☕️ Hanoi Train Street Guide & Tips! 🚊
At Hanoi’s Train Street, you can sip coffee just inches from a passing train, making for a thrilling and unforgettable experience! 🤩
📍 General Information
There are two main sections of Train Street:
1. Trần Phú Street (Popular & Lively)
Many cafés, lights, and a vibrant atmosphere. Closer to the Old Quarter but can get crowded.
2. Lê Duẩn Street (Quieter & Less Touristy)
Fewer tourists with a relaxed vibe. There are some cafés, ideal for a quieter experience.
✨We chose Trần Phú for its convenience and lively atmosphere. 🚂
⏰ Train Schedule
We arrived at 2:45 PM to catch the 3:30 PM train. However, train schedules can change!
⚠️TIP: Always check with the café owners at least one hour before to confirm the exact timing. Estimates can be found on Google.
For reference, on a Saturday, the announced train schedule was:
- 3:15 PM (instead of 3:30 PM)
- Next train: 5:40 PM (instead of 5:30 PM)
☕ TIPS! 🚊
✅ Many cafés line the tracks; simply pick one with available seating
✅ Prices are est. 70,000–80,000 VND per drink
✅ Listen carefully to café staff instructions for safety.
✅ Tables are positioned to keep you at a safe distance from the train.
😉 TIP: DO order beer and let the train flatten the bottle cap for a unique souvenir! 🎁
🚂 When the train approaches, the experience is thrilling yet nerve-wracking, it rushes past at arm’s length, lasting over a minute! 😱
🤔 If you DON’T want to buy any drinks…
✅ You can stand behind the road-rail intersection just before the train arrives
✅ After the train passes, you can walk onto the tracks for photos.
However, I highly recommend ordering a drink for the front-row experience, it’s WORTH IT! 👍☕️🚂

#timetotravel
Hanoi Train Street is not really a tourist attraction, but many tourists, especially foreigners, are attracted by its uniqueness.
💰💵❌Entrance- Entrance is free, but there are ladies there who convince people to buy drinks like coffee or milk tea so you can enter their shops. This is also a way for the locals to earn money since you don’t have to pay entrance fee.
🏍🛺How to get there- If you stay in the old street in Hanoi, you can just walk, or you can take a tuk-tuk or a motorcycle to get to the train street.

Train Street @ Hanoi 🇻🇳🚃🛤️
Don’t be fooled by the name “Train Street free entrance”, visiting the train street aint free…
When I reached the entrance, I was greeted by an aggressive stall keeper (who does not speak english) who would not let me to walk to the tracks unless I went to the specific coffee shop he owns…
Visiting a coffee shop is as expected because I know the train streets full of coffee shops, however, I was not expecting the staff to be this aggressive?? When we left, we saw the same stall keeper being aggressive to a Western couple and shouting get out to them… 🙄
But anyhow, keep this in mind when you plan to visit.
I would say I am lucky because I did not look at the train schedule beforehand and I managed to see the train passing through 😍!!! When the train is going to pass through the tracks, you will hear whistles and the staffs at the coffee shops would hurriedly ask the customers to get off the tracks and go INSIDE the store because the track is very close to the coffee shops. The train looks tiny from a far but it’s actually so massive.

Famous train street in Hanoi
Legendary train street, located close to Old Quarter and Bay mau Lake, is one of the must visit place in Hanoi. Experience is beautiful and definitely unique. We came around 6pm-7:30 pm and we saw 4 trains. Also met a great and nice cafe owner that helped us with the photos, so we ended up drinking beer in that cafe. Also we got a bottle cap, crushed by train, as a memory from this remarkable place. Definitely every recommendation :) #hanoi #hanoitravel #trainstreet
Hanoi’s Train Street 2023 Edition
Hanoi’s train street has been one of the few places I’ve been waiting to visit in Vietnam. The news that it was closed to tourists back in 2022 was gutting for me.
The original train street is very much closed with security blocking it at both ends, I’d heard of people bribing the security guards to get in but as it seems now it’s no use, the cafes are gone as well.
The new version of Train Street is further up the tracks where the train comes through before bending into the original. This is a higher levelled street and has multiple cafes. The difference being you have to be invited up by a PR person and you are placed in the first cafe with space instead.
You still get to have photos on the track but when the train comes, you are held inside the cafe and have to fight for your photos.
Still not a bad place to visit but do expect higher priced coffee and worse service than in the centre of Hanoi.

Train Street at Hanoi 🚂
Wandering through Hanoi’s iconic Train Street, I stopped at the charming Railway Station Cafe, a cozy spot tucked along the tracks.
Amid the unique buzz of passing trains and the hum of life, I savored a refreshing ice peach tea. 😋
Its sweet, tangy flavor was the perfect antidote to the warm, lively afternoon.
The atmosphere was magical, blending the charm of Vietnam’s traditions with the vibrant energy of the city.
Train Street truly captures the heart of Hanoi, and this moment, sipping tea and soaking it all in, was a memory worth treasuring. A perfect blend of flavors and culture.

Trendy Hanoi
Hanoi in Vietnam is not to be missed.
There is so much to see and do. Things i recommend not to miss are:
1. Train Street. Sit only centimetres from the massive diesel train as it thunders through the cafes in Train Street, while you sip on a Vietnamese egg coffee. A truely unique experience
2. Street food tours. Go on a guided street food tour. Your guide will take you around the streets to places you can sample “safe” food. Sample things from chicken embryos and Banh Mi to gelato!
3. The Vietnamese history museum. Learn about the Vietnamese War. Whilst confronting, you will see all the facts and genuine remnants and leave feeling somewhat grateful for what you have in life#vietnam #hanoi#trainstreet #streetfood

Hanoi's Most Popular Train Street
#hiddengems #trainstreet #hanoi #mustvisit #attraction
I was told that the Hanoi Train street was closed recently but has just been reopened due to safety concerns.
But here are the steps to ensure you have a chance to visit this unique place and ensure that you have the full experience.
1. Make sure you check the train timings on that day as there are several training timings.
2. Engage a cafe owner either at the track entrance or engage them via phone on what's app as they are required to bring you into the tracks to their cafe. Only with you buying a coffee or some snacks will then give you the opportunity to sit by the track.
3. Once the train goes by, in the afternoon you will only then be able to step on the tracks to walk around to visit the shops that are decorated with beautiful paintings and selling the different souvenirs.
best timing to go? Evening time as the tracks are lighted up! Stay tune to my night post.

Hanoi’s Train Street
Hanoi's Train Street, located in the heart of the city, is a one-of-a-kind destination that seamlessly merges daily life with the thunderous passage of trains. This extraordinary setting features narrow alleys flanked by houses, shops, and cafes, with train tracks running through the midst of it all. What makes this place truly remarkable is that residents have adapted to the regular train schedule, creating a unique dance of coexistence.
As you stroll along Train Street, you witness the routine of locals living just inches away from the operational railway. The houses are situated in such close proximity that residents have developed a synchronized routine of moving belongings, closing doors, and sometimes even folding outdoor furniture to make way for the passing trains. It's a delicate and practiced ballet of daily life meeting the unstoppable force of transportation.
The anticipation builds as the scheduled train approaches. Locals and visitors alike gather at cafes that line the tracks, providing an up-close and personal view of the spectacle about to unfold. As the train makes its way through the narrow passage, the atmosphere is charged with excitement. The rhythmic clatter of wheels against the tracks resonates through the air, creating a sensory experience that is both thrilling and surreal.
The vibrant culture of Train Street extends beyond the tracks. The surrounding cafes offer a cozy and unique vantage point to witness this harmonious coexistence. Visitors can sip on Vietnamese coffee or enjoy local delicacies while immersing themselves in the rhythmic pulse of the passing trains. The juxtaposition of modernity and tradition is palpable, making Train Street a symbol of Hanoi's ability to adapt, thrive, and celebrate its rich cultural tapestry amid urban development.
However, it's essential to note that safety concerns have led to restrictions on the access of pedestrians during train arrivals. Visitors should be mindful of the rules and regulations in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience while appreciating the charm and uniqueness of Hanoi's Train Street.#mytravelhacks #Hanoi #trainstreet

Hanoi Train street
It was a cool experience sipping coffee as the train speeds past. Don’t have to spend too much time there if your just there to see the train past. You can look up the schedule to see when the train is passing. Either way it’s a cool experience because of the environment in general. There are several entrances, depending on which one you enter through there will be “workers” trying to direct you to sit at their restaurant you don’t have to but they will insist you have to haha .#hanoi #trainstreet #vietnam #featured

Ambassador Cruise is highly recommended for all ages from young to old, single and married couples and for friends and families. Visit the vibrant Vietnam! Our experience in Hanoi and Halong Bay were remarkable. We thank God for the blessing to see this beautiful nation! 🇻🇳
