Climbing Fanjing Mountain with kids, want to see amazing sights but worried the kids will be exhausted? This guide is your “lifesaver”! Follow it for an easy and fun trip! Our family took the cable car up the mountain, saving a lot of energy. After getting off the cable car, the real climb begins. If the kids really can’t walk anymore (or if you want to take it easy 😜), there are price signs nearby where you can pay someone to carry you up, costing about 1,000 yuan. Climbing upward, you’ll first reach Mushroom Rock. It’s super magical here—the rock looks like a big mushroom, and the kids exclaimed it looked like a “chocolate mushroom!” 🍄 Here’s an important tip: there’s a sign nearby to scan a QR code to reserve a spot for the Red Cloud Golden Summit! Be sure to scan and reserve first! We reserved first, then went to the Old Golden Summit, and came back later to climb the Red Cloud Golden Summit—there was plenty of time. If your reservation number is far back, it’s recommended to head straight to the Red Cloud Golden Summit first. Continuing the climb, you’ll pass the Nine Emperor Cave, which is also a historical trail from the Red Army’s Long March—great for telling kids some stories. Then you can reach the top of the Old Golden Summit! The scenery is breathtaking! Afterward, follow the signs back to Mushroom Rock to climb the other side. Next, you’ll pass Cheng’en Temple and then arrive at Pudu Square. There’s a loudspeaker calling reservation numbers, and a small shop in the square, but prices are a bit high—one grilled sausage costs 10 yuan. Luckily, we brought snacks and fruit, so the kids could recharge anytime. 🎒 When our number was called, we headed to the gate to prepare for climbing the Red Cloud Golden Summit. This part of the trail is quite steep, especially the narrow steps shown in photos P9 and P10. Be sure to hold the kids’ hands tightly, have them grip the iron chains, don’t let them hold anything in their hands, and focus on climbing. 💪 Along the way, we passed Guanyin Cave and heard an interesting story: Fanjing Mountain was once underwater and was pushed up by tectonic plate collisions, which is why the mountain is so steep and knife-like. Whether true or not, it was a great geography lesson for the kids! 🌊 The moment we reached the Red Cloud Golden Summit, it was all worth it! On a clear day, you can see a stunning sea of clouds, and the kids excitedly searched for “cotton candy clouds.” ☁️ The way down was much easier. We passed the Heavenly King Hall and the Guanyin statue, then chose the cableway direction. There was a rest area with free ginger tea—perfect for warming up. Finally, we took the 8-person cable car down (about 20 minutes), then transferred to a shuttle van (9 seats) to the main entrance. We left around 5:30 PM and didn’t see any big buses, but the parking lot had 9-seat vans going directly to Tongren High-Speed Rail Station, about a 1 hour 20 minute ride. This street has been called Anhua since the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. It hasn't changed its name or location for over 400 years, which alone is enough to command respect. The bluestone slabs underfoot have been polished smooth and shiny by time, with moss growing in the cracks. The street is not wide, and most of the buildings on both sides are from the late Qing Dynasty, with white walls, dark tiles, horse-head walls, and exquisite wood-carved window lattices. Some walls are covered with creeping ivy, which adds a sense of weathered beauty. Focus on two places— 🔸 Zhouheshun Salt Shop During the Ming and Qing dynasties, Sinan was one of the most important docks on the lower reaches of the Wujiang River. Sichuan salt was transported here via the Wujiang River and then transshipped to various parts of eastern Guizhou. Zhouheshun Salt Shop was one of the largest salt shops at that time and still retains its original architectural layout. Standing in front of the door, you can almost smell the scent of salt and tung oil from back then. 🔸 Old houses along the street Wander into an alley, push open a half-closed wooden door, and you'll find mostly Tujia and Miao elderly people living inside. They will warmly invite you to sit down for tea. They speak with a heavy dialect, and although you might not understand it well, that simple, warm enthusiasm cannot be faked. 🌿 Bailu Lake Wetland Park · The ultimate state of relaxation If you have time, go to Bailu Lake. Sit on a small boat drifting on the lake, surrounded by karst hills, like green emeralds scattered on the water. The water is so clear you can see fish swimming under the boat. In July, during the high-water period, the lake water takes on a very special emerald color. There are no commercial facilities here, just pure lake and mountain scenery. Rent a small boat and row slowly, or just sit on the shore and relax, clearing all the messy thoughts in your head. The room had an independent hot spring pool, so I could soak whenever I wanted. After soaking, I took a shower and lay on the bed, every pore in my body was relaxed. I slept very soundly that night, without even dreaming. When I woke up the next day, the light coming through the curtain gap was warm orange, and I felt like I had been recharged by the hot spring and sunshine. This village was founded during the Jingtai reign of the Ming Dynasty, nearly 600 years ago, and over 150 households surnamed Hao have lived here for generations. The most unique thing about the village is that all the buildings are made of stone—stone walls, courtyards, paths, alleys, and houses—arranged in an S-shape around a natural spring, said to be built according to the Bagua formation. Walking through the stone alleys, with stone walls towering over your head and narrow, crisscrossing paths, you really might get lost. Water channels lead from the spring throughout the village. You can hear the water constantly, but you can't see where it comes from or where it goes, which is quite mysterious. There's a Phoenix Mountain in front of the village.
