2024 Shuanglang Scenic Area Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in December)
European vibes in the lakeside town of Shuanglang
I was very pleasantly surprised to discover this side of Dali in my travels this end October of 2024. Shuanglang has a lakeside view that is pretty as a postcard, filled with cafes and restaurants serving Western as well as Chinese cuisine. If you should ever come by Shuanglang Old Town, do stay in a hotel or homestay facing the lake as the old town is just within walking distance... a little precaution to note is that it gets quite sunny in the day, hence the need for sun protection against the UV rays, as in many parts of Yunnan.

📍Attraction Address:
Shuanglang Town is located in the northeast of Dali City, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It shines with unique brilliance on the northeast shore of Erhai Lake. It borders Binchuan to the east, Wase Town to the south, Erhai Lake to the west, and Shangguan Town to the north, like a dazzling pearl embedded in the mountains and waters of Dali.

You can start your romantic journey by taking the special urban-rural bus line from Dali City Passenger North Station to Shuanglang; you can also choose the tourist special line bus, tourist cruise route, or the Erhai Lake ring road tourist bus, enjoying the scenery all the way to Shuanglang Ancient Town. Of course, self-driving is also a great choice! Drive 49 kilometers along the east coast of Erhai Lake from Xiaguan Town in Dali City, and you will encounter the beautiful Shuanglang.

There are sightseeing tour cars available in Shuanglang Ancient Town. The operating routes cover attractions such as Nanzhao Style Island Pier, Yuji Island, and Kuixing Pavilion, with a ticket price of only 10 yuan per person per trip.
🌟Must-Visit Attractions:
The main attractions in Shuanglang Town are Yuji Island and Nanzhao Style Island! 💎Yuji Island, one of the three islands in Erhai Lake, can be reached on foot, and you might need to buy a ticket. Nanzhao Style Island, on the other hand, requires a boat ride and is definitely a great place to experience the culture of the Bai ethnic group and the natural scenery of Dali.

💡Tips:
🌈The eastern coastal road around Erhai Lake is the best route to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Erhai Lake, so don't miss it.
📸Popular photo spots in Shuanglang like the 'Sky Mirror' and 'Glass Ball' are super popular on social media, but they might require additional fees.
🚗Cars are prohibited in the central area of Shuanglang, so visitors can rent a small electric car in the village for about 30 yuan to easily shuttle through the streets and alleys of the ancient town.
🥢The inns and dining services in Shuanglang may have changed after a period of rectification, so it is recommended to check the latest business conditions in advance.
🌞Due to the strong ultraviolet rays in Dali, be sure to take sun protection measures when traveling.
Oily Coconut!

Have you ever heard or seen this before? Directly translated, it is called oily coconut. It seems to be a local specialty in Shuanglangzhen as I didn't see it elsewhere. So don't miss your chance when you see it.
Taste is very unique. As the name suggest, it is a coconut but with an oilier profile.
Picturesque ShuangLang Ancient Town
ShuangLang scenic zone was a dream and staying in one of the hotels in ShuangLang was so worth it as you’ll hear the sound of waves lapping onto the shores and the view of the lake 24/7.
While it may be far from all the other tourist spots in DaLi city, I would say staying in ShuangLang was one of the best decisions I’ve made on my trip to Yunnan.
Everything within ShuangLang was walkable and you get to immerse yourself in the serenity before the tourists arrive in the morning.
