Family Trip - Lake Sevan
Lake Sevan is the largest body of water in Armenia and the Caucasus region. The lake is situated in Gegharkunik Province, at an altitude of 1,900.44 m or 6,235 ft above sea level. So It is one of the largest freshwater high-altitude (alpine) lakes in Eurasia.
I always loved swimming in the cool water of Sevan, it was one of my favorite destinations in Armenia since I was a child. Now every time when I stand on the shore of the lake, it brings up a lot of good and warm childhood memories.
You can find several old church around the lake but the most popular one among tourists is (Sevanavank) located on a peninsula at the northwestern shore of Lake Sevan.

👍️Must-visit attractions:
Sevan Monastery was built in the 9th century AD and has experienced eleven centuries of wind and frost. It stands on the peninsula hill of Lake Sevan, surrounded by the lake on three sides. You can overlook the beautiful scenery of Lake Sevan from the monastery, which is known as the "Mirror of the Caucasus".
It has an important position in the religious history of Armenia. It was once a place for monks who broke the precepts to confess. It is an important religious place of the Armenian Apostolic Church and carries the religious beliefs and spiritual sustenance of the Armenian people.
[One] You can enter the Church of the Holy Apostles and the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary to appreciate the internal architectural structure, religious murals and sculptures. Pay special attention to a cross stone carving (as shown in the photo) on the left side of the Church of the Virgin Mary, which is said to be from the Mongol era and has some historical value.

🎟️Ticket information: Sevan Monastery is free to visit. If you visit Lake Sevan at the same time, the prices of cruise ships on the lake vary, ranging from 30-200 US dollars. You can choose according to your needs.
💗Other tips: Legend has it that the King of Armenia, Ashot Erkat, and his brother Abbas vowed to drive the Arab enemies out of Armenian territory. The place where Sevan Monastery is located is where they fought. One morning, the fog was heavy on Lake Sevan. The Armenian ferry was advancing in the fog with burning torches, and the Arabs followed by boat. King Ashot led the soldiers to attack and forced the Arabs to retreat. It is said that the sun was particularly dazzling that day, and the enemy could not accurately aim at the Armenian ship. Originally, Sevan Monastery was used for monks who had sinned in the Echmiadzin Cathedral to confess. When French explorers visited that year, they mentioned that there were strict precepts here, such as restrictions on eating meat, drinking, and contacting young people or women.

At the tip of the peninsula known as 'the tears of the Greater Caucasus' lies the theological seminary 'Sevanavank Monastery', also referred to as the 'Black Monastery' in Navank
Measuring the 'forgotten back garden of God' with my steps, I reach the 37th station of the Caucasus 🚞 and the 44th country 🇦🇲 𝐀𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐚☆ Armenia ▶️ In the eastern part of Armenia, there is a place known as 'the tears of the Greater Caucasus', 'the pearl of the Caucasus', and 'the mirror of the Caucasus'. This place is the magnificent 'Lake Sevan'. The lake is not only the largest high-altitude lake in the Greater Caucasus region but also a source of pride and a symbol for the Armenian people.
Surrounding Lake Sevan are several ancient churches, the most famous of which is the Sevanavank Monastery, built in the 9th century AD. In ancient languages, 'Sevan' means 'black', hence the monastery is also known as the 'Black Monastery' (constructed with black stone materials).
Ascending to the Sevanavank Monastery, one can overlook the changing colors of Lake Sevan's waters, from dazzling blue to deep blue. It is impossible to define its blue precisely because it is so clear and pure that it defies description.
The Beauty of Armenia
Lake Sevan in Armenia is amazing place in the winter and the summer for relaxing enjoy your trip !!!
Venturing into the oil-painting-like Lake Sevan | Armenia of my dreams!
| Armenia of my dreams! 🇦🇲 About 60 kilometers drive in Armenia, there is a place like an oil painting, called Lake Sevan, known as the "Blue Tear of the Caucasus", it is a plateau freshwater lake, accounting for three percent of the total area of Armenia, almost half the size of Dongting Lake. You can join a day tour, if there are many people, you can also rent a car directly in Yerevan and play all the way~
🌜For more than two thousand years, countless churches and castles have been built along the lake, and the ancient Silk Road also passed through here. Unfortunately, the sky was not beautiful this time, I didn't see the blue tears, I saw the gray tears💧, it is another scene~
🔥Attractions:
1, Sevanavank Monastery⛪
Sevan Peninsula is one of the most beautiful places of Lake Sevan, and Sevanavank Monastery (Sevanavank) is a landmark monastery complex located on the peninsula at the northwest corner of Lake Sevan, composed of two monasteries, one means saints, one means the Virgin,
⛪The monastery was founded in 874 AD, and has withstood the test of time⚡, still as strong as ever, making people feel as if they have returned to medieval Europe in an instant. The monastery is built by the lake, 🍂The yellow leaves in autumn and the black monastery are like an oil painting against the "blue tears"💧, it's so beautiful, walking by the lake will also make you feel calm!

Sevan: Navy Blue Water Lake
Where: Lake Sevan, Gegharkunik, Armenia
This lake is absolutely clear and transparent. In Summer it looks like navy blue. Surrounded by mountains it has a perfect view to the horizon. There are public and private beaches where you can swim. If you want less crowded area then better go to Shorzha area.
I enjoyed staying in the tent by the beach listening to the sound of waves and looking at the start sky.

Lake Sevan is a large, high-altitude lake in eastern Armenia. It's known for its beaches. Set on a narrow peninsula, the Sevanavank Monastery has 2 stone churches dating to the 9th century. To the south, Hayravank Monastery overlooks the lake from a rocky outcrop. Noratus Cemetery has hundreds of carved stone khachkar memorials. Odzaberd is a ruined fortress built by the Urartian civilization in the 8th century BC.

Saivan Lake is a mountain lake in Armenia. There are two monasteries on the hill. You can see the scenery of Saivan Lake just by climbing to the mountainside. In the summer, the flowers of the mountains are all open, and you walk along the path to the top of the mountain. Just like walking in the sea of flowers, the Lake Sevan in November will be covered with snow and ice. It is another fairy tale world scene. Now I can't see it from the oil painting.
Just climbed to the top of the mountain and was shocked by the scenery in front of you. The waves on the unpredictable surface slowly drifted across the clouds, only the flowers and clouds in front of you. Standing on the summit, overlooking the entire Lake Sevan, it seems to have returned to the seaside of Dali, Yunnan, facing the sea, and relaxed and happy.
