There is no need to hurry here — you can simply wander through the streets, admire the old buildings, discover small green squares and occasionally find yourself by the water. The complex includes the Krom itself, with its massive fortress walls and towers, as well as Dovmontov Gorod — an open-air archaeological area with the remains of ancient churches and buildings. The white Trinity Cathedral rises above the centre, while the powerful medieval walls make it easy to imagine Pskov as an important fortified city centuries ago. After exploring the city, I recommend stopping at Trapeznye Palaty. The city itself was first mentioned in the "Tale of Bygone Years" in 903, but archaeologists are certain that digging deeper reveals traces of settlements dating back 1,500 to 2,000 years. In the Middle Ages, Pskov was famous as the city of a thousand churches. About forty have survived to this day. Yet even now, as you walk through the city, you are constantly struck by the sheer number of temples here. 👀 What to See Here ✨ The Pskov Krom (Kremlin) It is unique among ancient Russian fortresses because it never fell under the influence of Italian architecture. Unlike the Moscow Kremlin, it is purely Russian in spirit. The Pskov Kremlin is authentic, monumental, and austere. It is exactly what a fortress in a free republic should be. Until 1692, a wooden administrative hut stood on this site before being replaced by this stone structure.
