I visited on a weekday morning in January. Perhaps because it was winter, there were few people around, so I was able to wander around at my own pace. The highlight of this place is undoubtedly the greenhouse. The entrance feels like you've wandered into Ghibli's Laputa, and you're sure to be able to take some great photos. Makino Botanical Garden is one of Kochi's tourist attractions. Makino Botanical Garden was the model for the morning drama "Ranman." The garden is very large! My number one recommendation is the greenhouse. When you step inside, the greenery spreads out and you're transported to another world. Depending on the season, you can see beautiful orchids and rare plants, but if you don't have time, it might be a good idea to just see the greenhouse. The bridge over the pond in the garden is also very beautiful. #familytrips2024 Best observatory I have seen. So so beautiful and with some early Sakura too !Museum had incredible architecture. Whole garden is wonderful. There are good cafe too. Sprawling grounds that contain a wide variety of plants and flowers. Beautiful landscaping everywhere. The greenhouse has great decorations with excellent atmosphere that feels like being in a rainforest in the tropic jungle.

I went to Makino Botanical Garden in Kochi Prefecture. You can get there by taking the bus (My Yu Bus) from Kochi Station to Katsurahama and getting off along the way. The bus costs 1,300 yen for a one-day pass. You can go as far as Katsurahama. If you are only going to the botanical gardens and back, buy a one-day pass to Mt. Godai. It will be a little cheaper. I was planning to stop by on my way back from sightseeing at Katsurahama, but I enjoyed it more than I expected. Various kinds of flowers are blooming on the vast grounds. Since it is on top of a mountain, the scenery is beautiful and I think it is a place that can be enjoyed all day. This botanical garden is named after Dr. Tomitaro Makino, a representative plant taxonomist in Japan in the 19th century. There is also a memorial hall and museum for Dr. Makino, where you can learn about the doctor's life. It seems that it is also the model for the serial TV drama "Ranman" in the first half of 2023. There seem to be many visitors from outside the prefecture, and there were many people visiting on the day I visited. It is especially fun to stroll outdoors. The entire top of the mountain has been developed as a botanical garden. It's even more interesting if you walk all over the place. The unpaved paths feel like walking through a forest, and are a fun, light hike. The toilet seats have no alcohol, just sheets.
