A hidden gem that I stumbled across when wandering around. 20RM gets you a coffee as well as into the museum, so it’s actually a great deal. They have free tours and audio recordings you can listen to, as well as detailed signage if you want to go through the exhibit on your own.
The lower-level has a bunch of porcelain and ceramics found in shipwrecks, so it’s a neat combo of art and history. Very well-organized by dynasty, with details about how trading and technique evolved.

Stepping into the Straits & Oriental Museum in Penang, I was immediately drawn into a world of maritime history and intrigue. The museum's collection of oriental shipwreck ceramics whispered tales of ancient voyages and trade routes that crisscrossed the seas. Each artifact spoke of a bygone era, where ships sailed through perilous waters, laden with precious cargo. From delicate porcelain to sturdy stoneware, the exhibits offered a glimpse into the rich cultural exchange that occurred along the straits. It was a captivating journey through time, where the artifacts bridged continents and connected civilizations.
