Natural scenery
The Great Blue Hole is located about 96 kilometers off Belize, near Lighthouse Reef, and is one of the largest underwater caves in the world. The outside of the Great Blue Hole is round, with a diameter of about 304 meters and a depth of about 122 meters. Today, the Great Blue Hole is a famous diving resort. A French explorer declared that the hole is "one of the top ten diving spots in the world". The original Great Blue Hole was a limestone cave that began to form around 150,000 years ago. As the Ice Age ended, the cave was submerged, the roof collapsed, and the water level gradually rose, creating this unique cave. Looking down from above, the deep blue color of the hole indicates that it has great depth, especially when compared to the shallow water nearby, its color is unusually deep and attractive. The Great Blue Hole is famous for its clear waters and diverse flora and fauna, where you can encounter nurse sharks, Caribbean reef sharks and bull sharks. If you are not good at diving, snorkeling at the mouth of the cave and nearby is also a good experience. In addition, there are many small islands nearby, providing tourists with a variety of fresh and delicious seafood delicacies.

Belize did not disappoint. I was in awe of life in this untouched sea scape. The reef and Great blue hole are captivating in every sense. We stayed on the island Ambergis Caye and enjoyed the hospitality of the Belizian people and feasted on the fruits from the Sea. Bucket list✔️✔️✔️

Aerial View of the Great Blue Hole
Belize's Great Blue Hole is probably on the must-visit list for most backpackers around the world. Therefore, it's not always possible to get same-day tickets for the small planes that offer aerial views of the Great Blue Hole. It's best to book in advance. You can book through airline websites or local travel agencies.
To enjoy an aerial view of the Great Blue Hole, you can fly from the capital, Belize City, or from San Pedro or Caye Caulker. I flew from San Pedro. You can take a water taxi from Belize City to San Pedro, which takes about an hour and a half to two hours, depending on the number of tourists and weather conditions.
The entire flight lasts about an hour, and it doesn't matter where you sit because all seats are window seats. The pilot ensures that passengers on both sides get a clear view of the Great Blue Hole, so there's no need to worry about which seat is better. The flight is very smooth with no turbulence.
San Pedro is a beautiful island with a very small city center that can be walked from south to north in 15 minutes. However, a leisurely stroll along the seaside with photo opportunities can easily take up three hours. Seafood and coffee on the island are reasonably priced.
In addition to snorkeling and beach activities, I also visited the Iguana Conservation Center. Despite their fierce appearance, iguanas are actually vegetarians. According to the conservationists, iguanas will simply walk away if they are unhappy and will only wag their tails when very angry, never harming people. Visiting the conservation center is free, but I left a $10 donation to show my appreciation for the conservationists' efforts and hard work.

Belize
Belize is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world. Beyond its famous barrier reef and tropical jungles, Belize is home to ancient Mayan ruins such as Caracol, Xunantunich, and Altun Ha. The Belize Barrier Reef is the second-largest in the world, and the Great Blue Hole, a giant underwater sinkhole, is a must-visit for scuba divers.
Inland, the country offers lush tropical forests and rich wildlife, including jaguars, monkeys, and exotic birds. Activities range from exploring caves and rivers, such as the Actun Tunichil Muknal cave, to hiking in nature reserves like Mountain Pine Ridge. Belize is a small country, but it’s packed with biodiversity and ancient history, making it an ecotourism haven.
