Experience the magic of wine and Christmas at Château Mukhrani, Georgia's only royal castle winery. 🍷🎄 Founded in 1876, Château Mukhrani is located in Mukhrani, Maetishki, about 20 kilometers north of Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. The area boasts ideal climate and soil conditions for grape cultivation. In 1875, Prince Ivan Mukhlabatoni traveled to Burgundy and Champagne in France to study winemaking methods. Upon returning home, he decided to establish Château Mukhrani, using Western European methods, and began producing wine. In 1889, a sparkling wine from Château Mukhrani won first prize at the Paris Wine Exposition. During the Soviet era, the winery was abandoned. In 2002, a group of businessmen and wine enthusiasts laid the foundation for the reconstruction of Château Mukhrani, enabling its revival and the construction of modern winemaking facilities. The winemaking methods employed also preserve the traditional Georgian Qvevri (earthenware pot) winemaking process. The castle retains its original appearance, with much of the existing walls reused during restoration. The exterior is a complete replica of its late 19th-century appearance. The garden layout designed by the Versailles gardeners has also been restored. The Royal Cellar Restaurant, opened in 1878, maintains its original style and even recreates the royal cuisine that the estate owner was once proud of. Step into the ancient cellar connecting the estate castle and the winery. Its vaulted space can hold over 60,000 barrels of wine, showcasing the winemaking history and techniques. The product line covers a variety of styles, especially dry reds made from the local Saperavi grape variety and the local Goruri Mtswane Kakhuri. Known for its dry white wines blended from Mtsvane and Chinuri grapes, this time we tasted three vintages of the Royale Saperavi Réserve: 2019, 2017, and 2011. My personal favorite was the 2011 vintage, dominated by mulberry, blackberry, and cherry notes. The palate was highly integrated with the oak tannins, leaving a clean and long finish. And because it's so rare, it wasn't sold. Even the young man who's worked here for 11 years only had this been his second time tasting it. As night fell, we walked on a red carpet across the estate's expansive lawn, feeling like we were going on a date, into the romantic glass-enclosed restaurant. A wonderful Christmas dinner awaited us, continuing the beautiful experience. 👑

Hello, friends! We visited the Mukhrani Winery in Georgia and found ourselves in a true fairytale with a hint of grapes! 😄 🏛️ The centuries-old architecture is simply stunning! The building looks like it came straight out of illustrations for knightly romances. We wandered around, imagining ourselves as noble knights and fair ladies... until hunger reminded us of reality! 😅 🕯️ A walk through the cellars is an adventure in itself! There are so many twists and turns that we seriously considered leaving marks like in adventure movies. One of us even exclaimed, "I feel like Indiana Jones!" Though instead of ancient artifacts, we were searching for bottles of wine. The atmosphere is simply amazing! 🔥 🍽️ The wine tasting was a true challenge for our taste buds (and wallets!). We tried to figure out the difference between Saperavi and Mtsvane, and in the end, decided that the most important thing is that everything is incredibly delicious! 😄 Among our gems were descriptions like: "This wine is like a summer day in the countryside!" or "I think I taste hints of grandma's pie." In short, we discovered our inner sommeliers... probably! 😝 🍴 The meal was a delight in itself! The dishes paired so perfectly with the wine that we almost forgot what forks and spoons look like.
