2024 Malé Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Malé is the capital city of the Maldives. Located in the Indian Ocean, it is a city full of beautiful landscapes. The city streets, rather than being paved with tarmac, are sprinkled with white sand of the beach. This is a rich tropical island surrounded by dazzling white coral reefs. Because the Maldives were previously colonies of England and Portugal, the architectural style here has a strong British flavor. Automobiles are a rare sight in the city. Most people ride bikes, motorcycles or walk. Sultan Park and National Museum are located at the center of the city. There is also a very long seaside avenue, Nirolhu Magu, to stroll along.

About the island
I was almost blind from looking at so many islands. I basically chose new islands because there are actually many old islands in the Maldives that are not bad, but I prefer more modern decoration. The agent did not recommend it, saying that the price of this island has risen a lot and it is not very cost-effective, but the room is very beautiful and I like it very much. There is a thatched house with a logo, and it is under Hilton. I feel that the experience will be good.
I stayed on the island for 4 nights, 2 nights in a beach villa and 2 nights in a water villa. I was really looking forward to the water villa, but the beach villa seemed to surprise me more. There is a private beach outside the door, and there is a swing and a lounge chair at the door, which is very photogenic and beautiful like a painting! The water villa is just as I imagined, you can go down to the sea, the net bed is great, and all the villas in Amingiri have private swimming pools.
The water villa room type I booked is the Overwater Suite with Pool, which is much larger than the ordinary water villa and has two net beds. Remember to book this! The rooms in Amingiri are very large, so I often can't find my phone or clothes. About food
There are four restaurants, one is the main restaurant HABITAT, where you eat breakfast every day, sometimes there is a buffet at night, but we didn't have it when we went, the scenery of this restaurant is amazing! The second is Origin, a super beautiful Italian restaurant by the sea. It's a pity that it rained on the only night we booked dinner here, so we could only sit inside. There is also a Beach shack on the beach for BBQ. At that time, I told the chef that their desserts were too sweet and they gave me a portion. If you think it's not delicious, you can mention it, don't hold back! Haha, the last one is Aura, an Asian-style restaurant + bar, the island's large swimming pool is here, I saw someone riding a flamingo 3 to take pictures and I knew it was our compatriots haha

|There is a kind of blue called Maldives blue. 💖Hard Rock Hotel Maldives | The ultimate dream island trip💖
🎈After seeing the Maldives from God's perspective, I am convinced that the Creator is partial. And Hard Rock Hotel Maldives is the brilliant crystallization of this partiality. 😍
📍Excellent location:
It only takes 15 minutes by speedboat from Male Airport to the island, which is fast and convenient. It is connected to SAii Lagoon Maldives by a long bridge. No matter which hotel you prefer, you can come to the leisure business district The Marina and enjoy the entertainment facilities. 🎊
🛏Luxury room type:
The Hard Rock Hotel, which opened in 2019, is in its prime. We chose the FB package and stayed in a water villa with a private pool. We didn't expect the butler to upgrade our room for free. Facing the endless Indian Ocean, that mood is simply indescribable. 🌊
🏊♀️Leisure resort:
The place I like to stay every day is the main swimming pool and the main beach, which is where I stay the most. The swimming pool and the beach switch seamlessly, the clothes are dry and wet, wet and dry, but never tired. 💦
🍽Food paradise:
The Elephant And The Butterfly is the restaurant we linger the most, close to the villa area, rich in variety and excellent in taste. The evening menu is different from the daytime, and we prefer the evening atmosphere. 🥂
Hard Rock Cafe Maldives offers rock live performances at night, and lively buddies must not miss it. 🎶
Sessions is a food-oriented restaurant with local flavors and dishes from all over the world. Among them, I personally think the lamb chops are very nice. 😋
In addition, you can also come to the business district (The Marina) or SAii Lagoon to taste a variety of foods, and it is so capricious to play three islands for a penny. 💃
In short, Hard Rock Hotel Maldives is the best choice for a dream island trip. Come here to experience the ultimate beauty and luxury! 💖

The Somerset Hotel is one of the best transit hotels you can find in Male. The location was quite strategic as it is close to a high rating cafe - The Seagull Cafe in less than 5 minutes walking distance.
The check-in process was smooth and the staff was professional to explain thoroughly while making sure we settle down, as we arrived in soaky wet due to rain.
The room was comfortable to stay in and was quite spacious. Not to mention, although the restaurant is small, but the included breakfast was great too! Strongly recommend!

BEST mocha in Male downtown - Meraki ☕️
#cafestory
#100WaysOfTravel
This is such a hidden gem in Malé. To be honest, I dint expect to find any good coffee in Maldives as everyone is talking about the sea, the sun, the watersport and the islands only, never ever heard people share about cafe or coffee regardless online or offline !! But this cafe is the 1 that I would highly recommend to everyone!!!!!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
My husband ordered a cup of latte and it comes with the tonic water. Drink a sip of the toxic, then you will get to fully enjoy the taste of the coffee. I order Mocha instead as i always thought that this the safest choice in the 1st visit of a cafe but here I found the BEST 1!! They even make it a chill 1 (cold but without ice inside) so that their customers can enjoy the same taste from beginning until the end 😍😍😍
If you are going to stay at the transit hotel in malé, do slot this cafe in to your itinerary and you wont be disappointed for sure!!

Smallest national capital in the world - MALÉ 🇲🇻
#citydaytours
#100WaysOfTravel
Malé is one of the smallest national capitals in the world with an area of less than 6 square kilometers with a population of approximately 200,000 citizens only. However, It is the largest city in the Maldives and always crowded with people, motocycle, and car.
Most of the time, the tourist will only stay here for max 1 night just to wait for the seaplane arrangement from the private resort but not to explore the city. Nevertheless, if you have planned more days in Maldives, do give a 1 or 2 nights to this special city and stroll away. Plenties of colourful building are surrounded, scrumptious food’s everyone and cafe is definitely something you cannot miss out here.

Trip to Maldives 🇲🇻
Upon arrival at Malé International Airport, we went to our hotel via speedboat. We also explored around the resort’s facilities.
We then went for our most favorite place for Snorkeling Excursion. Most resorts offer guided snorkeling trips to nearby coral reefs. You may check with the hotel or resort in advance. For our case, we pay $50 per person. We also visited Malé. If you're staying near Malé, I would definitely recommend you to take a half-day trip to the capital. You can visit places like, Hukuru Miskiy (Old Friday Mosque), Sultan Park and Malé Fish Market.
We also spent lots of time to relax on the Beach, enjoying the pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters. Just to recommend some of my favorite restaurants 🏖️
One of my most favorite restaurant will be The Lighthouse Restaurant, Baros Maldives. They served very very fresh seafood. It offered a romantic dining with views over the lagoon We had very good experience and really enjoyed the food and view. Do try out their seafood chowder which I think it’s the best 🥰🥰🥰
💰 $150-250
I would also recommend you Reef Club, One&Only Reethi Rah. They served mainly Italian food. We tried the seafood and also Wood-fired pizzas which was recommended by the staff. It was really delicious, and the pizza was very crispy.
💰 $50-70 per person.
Aside from snorkeling, we also spent some time for Scuba Diving. The Maldives is famous for its world-class dive sites. You can also check out for
Banana Reef, Fish Head. I think the price is reasonable. All the staffs were really nice and professional.
💰 They charge about $100-150 per dive (including gear)
We also explored activities like Jet Skiing, Parasailing 🪂 Kayaking.
💰Normally it costs around $50-100 per activity.
After all the hectic activities, we also spent time to explore the Sunset Dolphin Cruise🚢 A relaxing way to end our trip.
Overall, the trip was very relaxing. We really enjoy it and hope to come back again soon.
Last but not least, if you’re a big fan of Yoga like me, definitely try out their Sunrise Yoga. Where you get to experience yoga session on the beach.
💰$20-50

The capital Malé, on the brink of submersion
Maldives' capital Malé is one of the smallest capitals in the world, so small that it doesn't have its own airport. On a land area of 1.96 square kilometers (less than a third of the area of Hangzhou's West Lake), it astonishingly houses 250,000 people. This means that there are nearly 130,000 people per square kilometer
(approximately six times the population density of Macau), and the island also has to accommodate over a million tourists each year. As one can imagine, it is incredibly crowded! What's worrying is that the elevation of Malé Island is only about 1.2 meters above sea level, and it is said that it could be swallowed by the sea by the end of this century.
Indulge in sophisticated luxury in Maldives
Saii Lagoon Maldives resort is a stunning island retreat located in the emboodhoo lagoon in Maldives, offering guests a blend of luxury and natural beauty.
The resort boasts overwater villas and beachfront suites, providing breathtaking views of the crystal-clear waters and lush greenery. Guests can indulge in a variety of dining experiences, from fine dining to casual beachfront fare.
The resort also offers an array of activities, including snorkeling, diving, water sports, and relaxing spa treatments. With its idyllic setting and world-class amenities, Saii Lagoon Maldives resort promises an unforgettable tropical getaway.
Capital of the Maldives
June 24: Cloudy with occasional showers. Today will end the vacation of 2 nights in the sand house and 2 nights in the water house on Twin Fish Island. The flight back to Shanghai is at 19:30, and the hotel front desk originally arranged for us to leave the island at 4 pm. I negotiated with the housekeeper, we both wanted to go to the capital Male to stroll around, hoping to leave the island at 10 am, and there is a speedboat every 2 hours. (Because we had lunch on the island on the day we arrived on the island, so if you want to have lunch today, you need to pay for it yourself). After breakfast, go to the front desk to go through the procedures, and the waiter prints out the bill for me to confirm (the consumption on the island is reported by the room number, and the settlement is when leaving the island).
10 o'clock boarded the speedboat, arrived at the airport yacht pier before 11 o'clock. Check in luggage at the airport with a passport, 7 US dollars/piece. Then go back to the pier, buy a ferry ticket to the capital Male, 1 US dollar/person. It takes about 15 minutes to get to Male by ferry (not Hulhule, but the capital Male).
△Arrived in the capital of the Maldives before 11:30, Male has an area of only about 2 square kilometers, but has a population of nearly 300,000. Because of the strategy, I have some understanding of the main attractions of Male. After landing, I walked along the Binjiang Avenue and saw a building similar to the Sydney Opera House.
△It is said that the fish market is a must-visit
△Independence Square
△The only park in the capital: Sultan Park is very beautiful and exquisite, very small, and it takes only a few minutes to go around. The young woman sitting in the circle is working locally and comes from Russia.
△Presidential Palace: A century-old building, now a place for various national affairs activities, attracts tourists from all over the world to check in and commemorate with its unique style and history.
△Government agencies
△Narrow alley
△Unknown mosque
△Old Friday Mosque, you can see many tombstones.
△Friday Mosque, with characteristics.
△Blue Mosque, a very eye-catching building.
△After walking around a big circle, stopping and stopping to watch and take pictures, it was already more than 3 pm. During the period, I walked into a small Western-style pastry shop and ate a cake to replenish energy.
Unexpectedly, during the rest of the journey, the local guy heard that the two of us came from China and wanted to take a photo with my wife.
△My wife is a bit tired, it's time to go back to the airport. Find the ferry pier to buy a ticket and get on the boat, ending the approximately 4-hour walk and random shooting in the capital of the Maldives.
Not Male 🏋️♂️ But Malé 😍
#beachvacation
Malé is the capital and largest city of the Maldives, situated on one of the atolls in the archipelago.🏝️
It is a bustling urban center in contrast to the remote resort islands that the Maldives is famous for. 🏙️It's a small, densely populated city but serves as the country's economic and political hub. Visitors to Malé can explore its colorful markets, historic sites like Hukuru Miskiy (Old Friday Mosque), and the President's Palace. The city is also home to the Maldives' main international airport, making it the entry point for many tourists.🛬
Despite its small size, Malé offers a glimpse into the local Maldivian way of life and culture, and it's a place where you can experience both the traditional and modern aspects of this island nation.🧕
Tips and Tricks ⁉️
💸It's a good idea to bring some US Dollars with you when traveling to the Maldives. Upon arrival at the airport, you can exchange a small amount into Maldivian Rufiyaa to cover minor expenses on the local islands. If you keep the exchange 🧾, you'll have the option to convert any remaining Rufiyaa back to your foreign currency at the airport when departing the islands.
👍Pro's of Exchanging to the local currency (Maldivian Rufiyaa - MR):
- You might get better rate when paying in cash. Rufiyaa is less valuable then Dollar. So while you can pay exact price in local currency, people usually will round up the exchange rate for you to pay in foreign currency. (because of cost to exchange it to the local currency)🏧
- Local currency will be accepted in touristy and non-touristy places across the country.
- It is easier to withdraw than foreign currencies. 💵💶💷
👎Con's of Exchanging to the local currency (Maldivian Rufiyaa - MR):
-If you have an amount that you wish to exchange back to USD and you haven't saved the receipt 🧾. You might lose up to 15% in a exchange through locals who may offer their services. 📉
- You me might get overcharged easily if you don't pay attention to exchange rates. 😥
Enjoy! 💙💚❤️#SpinTheWorld #Maldives #island #backpacking
Maldivian Waters: A Dreamy Escape
The allure of the Maldives, with its warm waters that feel like a gentle caress against the skin, lingers in my memory like a treasured melody. After the sheer indulgence of the water temperature in this island paradise, even the thought of a home shower feels like an icy plunge into reality! 😅💦
Oh, how I yearn to return to the blissful embrace of @hardrockhotelmaldives, where every moment was a symphony of relaxation and rejuvenation. The sands, the sun, and the crystalline waters formed a harmonious backdrop to our dreams. But as time marches on, we carry the memories of that paradise within us, a reminder of the beauty that exists in this world and the joy that awaits in our future adventures. 🤍🏝️✨

Hotel could pick you up 24 hours from Male airports. But not very happy that this hotel could only upgrade 1 level for hilton diamond member guest. And the island is close to airport that only 15 mins from Male airport.
Also the southeast restaurant TonYam is really nice that provide delicious food. And I am happy that they provide Chinese check in service here. And Jack is really nice to introduce the hotel and restaurants for us.
And my friend - Chan, creative the photo for me.

As soon as I arrived on the island, I was immediately swept up in the intense atmosphere of rock and roll. The Mahe blue I had imagined countless times is real.
It's the imagined appearance of Maldives ❤️.
Bright sun umbrellas, glowing swings, and lively electric guitar music in the poolside bar.
Water villas come with their own swimming pools, and floating breakfast is probably a must-have upgrade for girls. It's worth trying out.
You can rent fins and masks for free, and directly go down the steps from the backyard of the room to snorkel in the sea and see the underwater world. It is said that occasionally there will be small devil fish surrounding you.
After the sun sets, the hard rocks begin to stir, and the entire beach feels like a rock music festival. This is also the biggest difference between the hard rocks and other quiet lying-down hotels.
On the island, there are 9 restaurants included in the package where you can eat for free. Chinese, Thai, and Italian restaurants are more appealing to the taste buds.
Lying on the island won't be boring, there are many activities every day, sunset yoga, fishing, Live... I even learned a class of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Experience summary: Spiritual belonging in the Caribbean Sea.
Hard Rock's rock spirit is really powerful.
The old guns on the island start to get restless at night, playing electric guitar and outdoor live music 🎸.
(Tanned to caramel color, Rihanna's temperament is even more prominent)
Maldives Travel | The Ultimate Experience on the Island
The Maldives is home to thousands of islands, which are grouped into 26 atolls. Nearly a hundred of these islands have hotels, and while the Maldives follows a "one island, one resort" model, it can still be overwhelming to choose the right island. It has become a century-old problem for travelers who want to visit the Maldives.
The standards for grading are different, and the reference standards include: the size of the island, whether the beaches on the island are fine and soft, the degree to which the island is suitable for snorkeling, whether the various facilities on the island are complete, and the distance of the island from Male airport, etc.
Four-star islands: often built earlier, belong to the old-fashioned type of islands, generally have better snorkeling levels, and the prices are relatively affordable. A budget of around 10,000 yuan is enough.
Five-star islands: There are many islands to choose from in this gradient, each with its own characteristics. Those with a budget of around 15,000 yuan can consider it.
Six-star islands: belong to high-level islands, the facilities for both snorkeling and on-island activities are relatively good, with a budget between 18,000-25,000. I would recommend going to the Maldives for honeymoon and family vacation, and focus on six-star islands. If the budget is above 25,000, it can be considered.
Seven-star islands and private islands: The off-season budget for Seven Star Island is basically starting at 30,000 yuan/person, and the prices for private islands are even more unlimited, so I won't go into detail here.
2. According to the way of going to the island.
To travel from the capital Male to various islands, you need to go to the airport or take a speed boat or a sea plane. If the distance is further, you need to take a domestic flight and a speed boat. Therefore, there are differences not only in price but also in experience. The specific differences are as follows:
Speedboat (within 80 kilometers), providing 24-hour shuttle service:
Advantage: It's very convenient to go to the island, so friends who want to go to the island on the same day don't have to worry about the time to go to the island.
Drawbacks: Some friends may get seasick, and some may want to experience flying on water, but they cannot feel the fun of water flying on a speedboat.
Recommended islands: Aolu, Aojing, Kulamati, Digudao, Boduxidi, Fuhuafen.
Small hotel at Malè
Reached pretty late so stayed one night at this small hotel (feels more like motel) at Malè for one night. No view at all as I was facing some back dirty lanes and I was met with a cockroach in my room upon opening the room door.
Next day included breakfast couldn’t be served as the kitchen had some tech problems. but staff was very nice to arrange for breakfast at their sister hotel abt 5mins down the round. Good for short stay only
Masjid Tertua di Male,Maldives
Male Huruku Miskiiy, Maldives.
Masuk percuma saja. Cuma bolehlah menderma kepada penjaga masjid seikhlas hati. Penjaga masjid pun baik dan terangkan macam - macam mengenai sejarah masjid ni. Digalakan melawat kalau ada masa lebih. #travel #island #maldives
Maldive from the sky
The only way to see all the single atolls , this magic postcard from the sky to take a piece of Maldive with you for the rest of your live.
Magic moment flight from male airport to all the jewels: north of Male , South of Male , ari atoll , baa Atoll etc ...
I suggest to everybody to make at least once in the live . The price about usd 500 return.
This sea plane is only enough to accommodate about 15 people. However, I recommend traveling by sea plane if the weather is sunny. There are other options if you are traveling when it is raining or the weather is not good. That is, you can use domestic flights with Boeing aircraft.
But transmaldivian (seaplane) terminal with domestic flight is not far from the terminal.
I recommend you to book flight during morning around 7 am or in the afternoon around 4 pm.
It was wonderful experience i have. Love it, ❤️

Airport Souvenirs
Male transit area
This transit area has been expanded and there are more souvenir shops than before. In Male, the majority of their goods are imported so you will not find much on local produce. However, their handicrafts are exquisite and you can always buy their crafted soaps for memories too. However, I find that you can buy nicer craft soaps from Bangkok at a cheaper price. Having said that, you can buy those Made in Maldives souvenirs to commeratote your visit to Maldives. I find their ocean animals' soft toys are worth buying. Those photo frames decorated with seashells are not bad either.

Maldives Airport food
Male Burger King
You will be berry surprise at their inflated prices here at Male Burger King. All prices are in USD and there is always a long queue at Burger King. There are more westerners here compared to Asians so the probability of them having fast food is also higher. Most travellers in Male will arrive at Male airport early for their flights. This is also because of their connecting seaplane/domestic flights. So the airport is always busy. You can buy Burger King from the landside and airside after you check in too. It will be inside the transit area and it is easy to find. There is a water cooler fountain right next to Burger King and it is free.So you can drink water and not pay extra.

Sunset at Jetty
Male jetty
A beautiful place to admire the maldvian sunset for free. This jetty is where you can take a 1 usd boat ride to male island and also take the resorts’ speedboat to the resorts. There are plenty of seats around for passengers. It is an outdoor area but it is always windy so you won't feel so hot. There is also a coffee bar at the corner and you can just buy a coffee, sit down and relax at the jetty. I will recommend you to take a leisure walk along the jetty and you can spot all types of speedboats coming in to ferry their guests. Some of the speedboats are huge. Breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the sunshine at Maldives.

Male Moonimaa lounge
Male moonimaa lounge
A landside lounge at Male domestic airport and you can walk over easily from the international airport. It is located at the landside so there is no need to clear immigrations. This moonimaa lounge is also part of the priority pass airport lounge group. So you can use your complimentary priority pass lounge use over here. There are 3 timings at this lounge for their food serving. It is an alternative place to take shelter here while waiting for your next flight. If not, there are plenty of restaurants and cafes to choose from. If you do not have lounge access, I will not recommend you to spend money here. It will be better to just cross over to the main jetty and sit at their waiting area and look out towards the sea.
