Luoguqing Villa, a homestay with exclusive hiking routes
Hi, everyone, I'm your little Brother Cheng.
Compared to the hiking routes of Dali Bird Hanging Mountain, Shangri-La Yubeng, Nujiang Luoguqing is a little transparent existence. However, this three-day and two-night hiking trip gave me one surprise after another. Alpine meadows, Danxia stone forests, winding streams, cattle and sheep everywhere, deep forests and the strong cultural atmosphere of the Pumi people, every place is full of charm!
📍Address: Nujiang Luoguqing
🚗Transportation: It is recommended to drive by yourself, it takes about 2.5 hours from Dali or Lijiang, half of the highway, half of the county road, the road conditions are very good!
🧭Navigation: Directly locate to Luoguqing Villa Wuxiang Homestay
🚶Hiking route: Luoguqing currently has three hiking routes to choose from
1⃣️: Lover's Dam—Huaxi Valley—Red Bean Creek—Huaping Mountain—Mother Tree, round trip about 5km, a light hiking route that you can play while walking, even children can finish
2⃣️: Lover's Dam—Mother Tree—Jiliji Viewing Platform—Golden Toad Moon Viewing—Listening to the Wind Cliff—Thousand Turtle Mountain, round trip about 14km, advanced route, most people can finish
3⃣️: Big Sheep Field—Small Sheep Field—Thousand Buddha Cliff—Wild Elephant Valley—Sky Ladder—Tiaojun Platform—Hundred Zhang Echo Wall—Lover's Dam, the whole journey is about 24km, it requires a high physical fitness. Suitable for experienced hikers
🏠Accommodation: Strongly recommend staying at Luoguqing Villa Wuxiang Homestay. This is a homestay that just opened this year, the rooms are scattered in the courtyards of the local Pumi villagers, living in a small courtyard with the local villagers, you can sit around the stove at night, roast potatoes, eat melon seeds, drink tea and chat, it is really full of relaxation!
tips
1⃣️The homestay will have a guide to accompany the whole hiking trip, and has thoughtfully prepared trekking poles and hiking supplies, so you don't have to worry about the route
2⃣️Luoguqing is the best time to watch alpine rhododendrons from April to May each year
3⃣️June to August each year is the rainy season in Yunnan, it is recommended to bring waterproof clothing
4⃣️The plateau area is very dry, and the ultraviolet rays are also very strong, so it is necessary to do a good job of sun protection and drink more water
5⃣️The plateau environment is fragile, please take away the garbage and leave the beauty to more people
Three Parallel Rivers National Park: Sacred Area of Yunnan
#nationalparks
In the northwestern part of Yunnan Province, there are three rivers flowing parallel to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau to the south, but never converging. This is the 29th World Cultural and Natural Heritage project in China "Three Parallel Yunnan Rivers", National Park.
Originating in the Tanggul Mountains on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the Jinsha, Lancang and Nu Rivers flow parallel along the Hengduan Mountains for several hundred kilometers. It is a very rare phenomenon that the shortest distance between the Lancang and Jinsha Rivers is only 66 kilometers, and between the Lancang and Nu Rivers is less than 19 kilometers. Interestingly, their entrances to different seas are thousands of kilometers apart from each other.
This National Park covers the autonomous Prefecture of Nu Jiang-Lisu, the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Diqing and the Lijiang Region. Three parallel rivers have a spectacular landscape that consists of rivers, mountains, rare plants, animals and habitats of 16 ethnic groups.
In this rotected area, you can see a typical topographical feature of Yunnan, consisting of beautiful views of parallel rivers, high mountains and deep gorges. The height of the snow-capped mountains in this area ranges from 2,000 meters to 6,000 meters, and there are more than 100 snow-capped mountains over 5,000 meters high. Among them, the most famous is the Snowy Meili Mountain, which is considered a Sacred Mountain by the local Tibetan people.
Accordingly, the gorges are very deep. The gorges of the Nu River, the Lancang River and the Jinsha River are especially famous. The average depth of the Nu River Gorge is 2,000 meters, and it has been named the "Eastern Great Gorge". The famous Jumping Tiger Gorge, which is part of the Jinsha River Gorge, is the deepest gorge in the world. The climate at the bottom of the gorge is subtropical, dry and hot, while halfway to the top of the mountain it is cool and pleasant. The peaks of the mountains are covered with snow all year round. At an altitude of several thousand meters, the climate and the natural landscape change greatly.
The Pumi people in Luguqing, the last secret place in Nujiang.
There is a private hiking route, which most people probably haven't heard of, located in Luguqing, Nujiang City, Yunnan.
To get to Luguqing, it is 160 kilometers by self-driving from Lijiang and 200 kilometers by self-driving from Dali. The altitude is 2,700 meters, which is considered low on the Yunnan-Tibet line.
This place is inhabited by the Pumi people. Before I knew about this place, I had never heard of this ethnic group. I don't know if there are hundreds of ethnic minorities in Yunnan. The so-called 56 ethnic groups, I don't know how many small tribes of thousands or tens of thousands of people are represented.
The local customs here are still relatively simple, relying on agriculture for a living. The tourism industry has only started in the past two years with the help of cultural tourism. The local government and villagers have cooperated to convert the wing rooms of 13 households into 30 suites. The original architectural style of the wooden house is retained, and the holiday quality of the villa is integrated into it. The so-called "the whole village is a homestay, and a villager's home is a room" operation mode allows visitors to experience the local cultural life more deeply.
In addition to accommodation, the store also includes a professional guide-led hike. The route is from Dayangchang to Lovers' Dam, with a one-way distance of 24 kilometers (there is also a short 6km hiking route), equipped with hiking equipment, including 1 road meal, travel accident insurance, and 1 Pumi bonfire jump.
The hiking route is suitable for: individuals, families, friends gatherings, team building. Hiking beginners.
tips: 3 people form a group, up to 30 people
Recruitment for long-term activities
The villa has a large public area, restaurant, coffee shop, in addition to meals, it also provides barbecue, afternoon tea, indoor and outdoor can enjoy the mountain view and experience local food.
In addition to hiking, there are also horse riding, off-road vehicles, Pumi costumes, bonfire jumping and other experience activities. If you set off in April, you can also see the beautiful alpine azaleas all over the field.

I thought Xinjiang was beautiful enough until I visited Nujiang in Yunnan~
This is not Xinjiang, but a hidden gem in Yunnan, a primitive and mysterious place where humans and gods coexist. It is currently undeveloped, sparsely populated, and a natural oxygen bar for hiking and lodging, hidden in ancient villages among green mountains and fields.
Here you will find meadows, pastures, mountains, lakes, and primeval forests, a hiking paradise.
You can see cattle, sheep, horses, streams everywhere.
Golden monkeys, wild mushrooms, flowers, etc.
Countless magical mountains, countless gorges, countless primeval forests.
About the attractions:
Address: Shujia, Luoguqing Scenic Area, Lanping, Nujiang, Yunnan Province
Transportation: 2.5h from Lijiang to the village, accessible by self-driving (good roads) or by plane.
Village special activities:
5km 3-hour leisure hike, 14km 6-hour medium hike, 24km 9-hour deep hike, mountain off-road vehicle experience, daily mountain and wild afternoon tea, Pumi bonfire party, Pumi dance, special mushroom soup meal, handmade DIY parent-child time, Pumi costume experience.
Hiking routes:
Shujia → Lovers' Dam → Mother Tree → Listening Wind Cliff → Thousand Turtles Mountain → Qinghuadian Wetland Park
Accommodation recommendation:
You must stay at Shujia Homestay. The guest rooms are scattered throughout the village, in the wooden houses of local Pumi families. Each homestay is a standalone building, with guests upstairs and the local Pumi people's daily life downstairs. This allows you to better integrate into local life and understand Pumi customs.
Food: The homestay's breakfast rice noodle set is rich, lunch is a hiking meal, and the secret small green chili hot pot for dinner is super delicious, the taste is amazing!
Nearby attractions: Yuhu Village in Lijiang, Baisha Ancient Town, Shuhe Ancient Town, Lashi Lake Wetland Park
Warm tips:
1. Be sure to bring warm clothes, a windbreaker, and sports shoes are essential, as the temperature difference between morning and evening is large.
2. The homestay is equipped with hiking poles and simple meal backpacks (water, bread, self-heating rice, fruit) and other food.
3. Be sure to do sun protection, sunglasses, sunscreen, sun hat, and umbrella can all be brought.
The severely forgotten ancient village in Yunnan, inhabited by the descendants of the White Wolf~
When coming to Yunnan, are there any friends like me who don't like the overly noisy attractions of Dali and Lijiang, and just want to find a quiet ancient village to stay in, look at the clouds, and listen to the wind?
Then this little-known ancient village in Yunnan
You must come
Nujiang, Yunnan · Luoguqing
This is an ancient and secretive Pumi village, distributed along the undulating mountains, with clusters of gray tiles and red walls. Any random frame with a mobile phone is like a movie scene.
Especially in the early morning when the mist is swirling or after the rain has just cleared, the entire mountain forest is filled with clouds, making you feel like you have traveled back to a village hundreds of years ago, isolated from the world.
Behind the village is a vast alpine pasture comparable to Xinjiang. In May and June, wildflowers bloom all over, cattle and sheep graze in herds, and hidden wooden houses stand in the forest. Thinking of running and frolicking here, feeling the breath of nature, must be a joyful thing.
The main inhabitants here are simple and kind Pumi villagers. In the morning, they ride horses to the mountains to herd cattle and sheep. The children are very cute and will take you to pick walnuts; you can have a farmhouse feast, and the pork from the little black pigs running all over the mountains will make you cry with joy. In the evening, you can dance around the bonfire together, even if your hands and feet are uncoordinated, you will still have a great time dancing.
In addition to the village scenery and Pumi culture, a hidden hiking trail here also attracts many hiking enthusiasts from far and wide.
Luoguqing Dayangchang 24KM Hiking Trail
! It is more than 1000 meters lower in altitude than Yubeng, and also has majestic snow-capped mountains, primitive forests, Danxia landforms, and vast flower seas. In May and June, you can see rhododendrons, and in July and August, you can pick matsutake mushrooms and other fungi.
Currently, there are only two or three homestays in the village. The wild luxury homestay Nujiang · Shujia Wuxiang, themed around hiking, offers a view from every window. You can choose according to your needs.
Mystical Nujiang, Loguqing 24km hiking trail
Upon entering the village, the first thing that catches your eye is a Tibetan Buddhist stupa and the surrounding earth houses that resemble Tibetan architecture (including the Bon religion architecture of the Bodhi Temple 🏯 along the way). One might wonder, isn't this a Tibetan village? Then, upon careful consideration of the geographical location of Lanping Pumi and Bai Autonomous County 📍, Lanping is situated between Shangri-La and Dali, serving as a buffer zone. The Pumi people were originally a branch of the Tibetan ethnic group, and geographically, they are adjacent to Jianchuan in Dali. They have their own language, folk culture, and clothing that bear traces of the Bai people. Their religious beliefs are rooted in Tibetan Buddhism, and they can speak both Bai and Tibetan languages. This unique geographical location has fostered a multi-lingual ethnic habit. Such a magical region in the south of the clouds is worth exploring for its numerous fascinating areas...
Loguqing, as the name suggests, 'Qing' in Yunnan refers to a large bamboo forest in the mountains, generally referring to a valley with dense trees. It is part of Laojun Mountain in Yunnan, tightly surrounded by primeval forests and Danxia stone peaks. According to Pumi friends, there are 91 streams, 18 ridges, and 360 peaks among the rocks. Stepping into it feels like entering a fairyland, relaxing the body and mind, releasing stress, and bringing peace to the soul. 🙏🏻

Hiking Tips
📍 Navigation: Loguqing, Lanping Bai and Pumi Autonomous County, Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture
We drove from Dali, taking about 3 hours to reach the village entrance. See picture 2️⃣ for the stupa. Recommended duration is 3 days and 2 nights. Settle and rest on the first night, explore the medium and short routes on the second day, and directly tackle the 24km Loguqing-Dayang Field route on the last morning❗️Friendly reminder: Pay attention ⚠️ The entire 24km route from Loguqing to Dayang Field is a one-way route from the starting point ➡️ to the endpoint. If you are driving, you need to arrange your vehicle reasonably; otherwise, you will have to walk back to retrieve your car ⚠️.
Accommodation and Meals 🏨
There are homestays in the village, mostly family inns converted from Pumi earth houses. Most families provide meals, and local specialties are recommended, such as chicken stewed with wild mushrooms 🍄, Tibetan fragrant pork ham, and wild mountain vegetables. Yunnan's most unforgettable ancient village - Nujiang Loguqing
Are there any friends like me who don't want to go to tourist spots that are too commercial and just for checking in and taking photos, but prefer to delve into some ancient villages hidden in the deep mountains, to encounter those secluded sceneries, and to feel the local cultural atmosphere🎈
.
🏔Then you must come to Yunnan, to this niche village that 90% of tourists will miss — Nujiang Loguqing.
.
■Here lives the most mysterious ethnic minority in Yunnan — the Pumi people, who call themselves descendants of the White Wolf, a tribe that once followed Genghis Khan to conquer the world, and eventually migrated to the deep valleys of the Nu River in Yunnan to avoid war chaos.
■With red mud as walls and stacked wood as tiles, the traditional wooden shingle houses are layered along the mountain, with smoke curling up, more like the final scene of a movie, where the tranquility long lost to the outside world still exists.
.
🌳Besides the utopian-like scenery, you will also be touched by the local simple life and culture.
✅The villagers are simple and honest, and during festivals or celebrations, no matter whether they know you or not, they will invite you to eat, with free-range pigs, sheep, chickens, and cured meat that will really make your mouth water😋
✅The Pumi people judge the corn🌽 harvest by looking at the trees, and when the season comes, every household is a golden expanse, the villagers gather to break corn and chat about family affairs, and you can also go under the trees to pick walnuts😝 and wild fruits to eat.
💥In the evening, the Pumi girls and boys will dress up in their finest, with blue and white skirts swaying, dancing around the bonfire, free and unrestrained.
.
🐏Behind the village, there are large meadows full of wildflowers, with herds of cattle and sheep, surrounded by verdant spruce trees, and small wooden houses standing in the distance, really giving you the impulse to want to retreat here forever!
.
📍Tips
The Dragon Boat Festival is the biggest annual festival for the Pumi people, with singing and dancing performances all day on the meadows, so don't miss out if you love lively events.
.
👬There is also an off-the-beaten-path hiking route in Northwest Yunnan, where you can see primitive forests, high mountain Danxia, meadows of flowers🌸, etc., with altitudes suitable for beginners to challenge.
.
🚗Self-drive navigation location: Nujiang Lanping Loguqing
⌚️Departing from Lijiang or Dali, half highway + half national road, it takes about 2.5h to arrive.
💰In addition to self-driving, you can also choose to share a business car, with both Lijiang and Dali costing about 100/person.
.
🏡In the Loguqing village, there is a homestay opened in the villagers' homes — Nujiang·Shujia Wuxiang, with 30 rooms scattered in the local Pumi people's wooden shingle courtyards, with green mountains, streams, fields, and forests just outside the window. Here, it is truly a vacation away from the world's affairs.
Reluctant to share, this obscure ancient village in Yunnan has almost zero tourists
Reluctant to share, this obscure ancient village in Yunnan has almost zero tourists.
🌲In my mind, the most niche village in Yunnan is not in Dali or Lijiang, but hidden deep in the Nujiang valley, only a 2h drive from these two popular spots, in a village called 'Luoguqing'.
.
🏔This is an ancient Pumi village surrounded by green mountains and ancient trees. If you don't look for it on purpose, you will really miss this isolated utopia. Traditional wooden houses are stacked layer upon layer, with fields and cornfields 🌽 everywhere. Every household still wears traditional Pumi costumes, speaks Pumi language, and shows a simple and kind smile to strangers.
.
Behind the village, there is a large alpine meadow, 🐏🐏 herds of cattle and sheep graze here, the spruce trees are lush, wildflowers are everywhere, log cabins, shepherds, it's like a scene from a fairy tale world.
.
👬There is also a less-known hiking route in Northwest Yunnan — the 24KM Luoguqing Big Sheep Farm trekking route. You can see primeval forests, alpine Danxia, meadows and pastures, and in May-June, there is a sea of azaleas all over the mountains. The highest point is over three thousand meters, which is also suitable for beginners to challenge. And since it's still niche and not many people know about it, the hiking experience is more pure.
.

‼️Tips
1⃣Departing from Lijiang or Dali, half highway + half national road, it takes about 2.5h to arrive. In addition to self-driving, you can also choose to carpool in a business vehicle, which costs about 100 RMB per person from both Lijiang and Dali.
2⃣In the village, there is a newly opened hiking-themed homestay Nujiang·Shujia Wuxiang. The rooms are distributed among Pumi households, but the hardware and design are very aesthetic, and every window offers a view. The accommodation includes guided hiking, bonfire jumping, Pumi home visits, etc.
3⃣In ethnic minority areas, please respect local beliefs

❸Stay in a local's yard, experience the local life of a homestay in a villa, in autumn and winter, you must try the small green hot pot and Lanping lacquer oil chicken
❹Dianhua Wetland Park (Da Yangchang) trail light hike for 4 kilometers to see snow-capped mountains 🏔️ meadows with herds of cattle and sheep
❺Lugu Village 14 kilometers forest hike, it's one of my favorite forest hiking routes this year, low altitude, rich scenery, not much climbing, very easy to walk, the scenery is stunning, the autumn forest atmosphere is full
