I took the plunge and went on my first solo trip last month. From Birmingham (UK) to Helsinki (Finland)… Not the most ‘exotic’ or enthralling trip, but it was grounding. There’s so much nature and overall relaxed vibe to the country. Exactly what I needed at the time after I had just left my job literally the day before😂 I went on a ferry for the first time too to visit Suomenlinna island (photos 3 and 4) which is only twenty minutes away from the capital. Stayed with extended family in the nearby city Espoo. I toured Espoo and Helsinki, and also took a trip to beautiful beaches of Nöykkiö - would defo recommend!! I was blessed to be hosted and save money on hotels etc. Things are definitely on the pricier side (food and even the art museum) in #finland so be prepared for that. Heard the best time is to visit in the Summer so I might just do that next time (God-willing) 👀 #solotrip

Stay in the heart of Helsinki! The Hilton Helsinki Strand totally delivered—ocean view room, super lush vibes, and that breakfast was bang on (seriously, so yum!). Pro tip: grabbing a hire car right from the airport = zero stress and max freedom to explore. Day 1: Roadtrip to Porvoo! This cute little town is only about 50km from Helsinki (Address: Jokikatu, 06100 Porvoo). Meander through Lo Issa and get lost among the quirky pastel riverside buildings. It’s a top spot for cool indie shops, random art corners, and cozy coffee spots that are sooo photogenic ☕✨ Don’t forget your camera—the vibes are truly next level. Day 2: Nature escape! First, cruise over to Lake Tuusula (Tuusulanjärvi, 04300 Tuusula) for some fresh air and chill lakeside walks. Next, treat yourself at Kuusijärvi Smoke Sauna (Kuusijärventie 3, 01260 Vantaa, open daily 6:00–21:00). Warm up in the authentic wood-smoke sauna, then cool all the way down with a dip in the lake—talk about a glow up! 🧖♀️💦 Back in town, hit up Löyly Helsinki (Hernesaarenranta 4, 00150 Helsinki, open Mon–Sat 16:00–23:00, Sun 13:00–21:00). More epic saunas and the cold plunge straight into the harbour = a rush you’ll never forget. The food? Amazing modern Finnish cuisine in a super chill beachfront setting—yaaas! Not-to-miss bonus: swing by Nuuksio National Park (Haukkalammentie 32, 02820 Espoo, open 24/7). Feed the reindeers, wander the forest trails, and just vibe with nature. It’s pure Finnish magic. Some buildings from my last visit to Helsinki (late Feb). Weather was surprisingly warm, can't say sunny, but still good. My Helsinki transport card was blocked for inactivity so I had to visit HSL service center. Recommend to check out Boneless smashburgers and Huone tea shop/cafe. I won't reccomend going Suomenlinna during winter but otherwise it's definately worth to came there. Helsinki museums are very good but can cost alot, so best idea is to buy museum card- it's have 1 year duration for cost of around 4-5 museums
