The Church of Lake Bled@Slovenia

One of the key highlight of Lake Bled is the church known as the Church of the Assumption of Maria (Cerkev Marijinega vnebovzetja). Location - The church is situated on Bled Island, the only island in Slovenia, in the middle of Lake Bled. History - The current Baroque church was built in the late 17th century, though the site has a history dating back to pre-Christian times with a temple dedicated to the pagan goddess Živa. Architecture-The church features a distinctive 52-meter (171-foot) bell tower and a staircase with 99 steps leading up to it. Tradition - A well-known tradition involves grooms carrying their brides up the 99 steps to ensure a happy marriage.
