Krakowska Gate in Lublin and the Museum

Krakowska Gate - a 14th-century gate guarding access to the Old Town in Lublin, a historical symbol of the city. Remains of defensive walls from the 14th century; built in the Gothic style, in the 18th century it was given a Baroque feature. The collections of the museum located in the Krakowska Gate illustrate the history of Lublin from the 6th century to the end of World War II. They consist of: archival materials, items from excavations carried out in the city, historical and art monuments. The first floor - exhibition], through archaeological collections, illustrates the oldest history of Lublin spread over four hills: Staromiejski, Zamkowe, Czwartek and Grodzisk called the Kirkut. In addition, there are also: a copy of the location privilege of Lublin from August 5, 1317, a clock bell from 1585, tiles from the 14th-18th centuries. The second floor is a cross-section through the history of the city from the location to the 17th century - archives, fragments of the oldest municipal water supply system, Lublin Renaissance tiles and the Trybunalski Cross from the 17th century. Third floor - the history of Lublin from the 17th to the 19th century is shown here, and the exhibits include: a 17th-century painting on the wall depicting St. Tekla (moved from a tenement house in the Old Town), 18th-century tiled clocks, symbolic city keys, memorabilia of the November and January Uprisings, paintings of Lublin from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The fourth floor is an illustration of the history of Lublin in the 19th and 20th centuries. It consists of portraits of famous Lubliners, advertisements of Lublin companies from the 19th and 20th centuries, a clock mechanism from 1903, photographs from the First World War, and exhibits related to education. The history of World War II is introduced by: secret messages, Kennkarte, items made by prisoners of the Lublin Castle.
