At Qingpu's cultural event, the staff mysteriously said they would take us to visit the Shengwu Building. I asked what was special about Shengwu Building? She said it must be the most beautiful and exquisite one among all the earth buildings. The most beautiful earth building, let's go and see it then~ Shengwu Building is not in Yongding, but in the neighboring Pinghe County, and there is a drive from Qingpu. However, the chartered car booked for us by Qingpu was very comfortable, and the journey didn't feel too tiring. After arriving, we discovered that this building was the prototype for the Gate of Heaven and Earth in 'Big Fish & Begonia' (after all, we had just rewatched it before coming). The unique value and endless charm of Shengwu Building lie in its exquisite interior decorations. Everywhere you look—on the roof tiles, doors, windows, and walls—there are clay sculptures, stone carvings, wood carvings, and murals. There are more than 600 wood carvings alone, featuring figures, plants, couplets, birds, beasts, and decorative items. The combination of poetry and painting, the harmony of motion and stillness, and the uniqueness of each piece have led experts to call it a 'wood carving museum'. Shengwu Building is no longer inhabited and has been specially preserved. Qingpu brought in an old building manager to explain the earth building to us. The old manager grew up here and has deep feelings for this place. He spoke with full emotion and great pride, but his Mandarin was a bit difficult to understand. For us northerners, it was a bit of a struggle to listen. We could only listen while strolling and appreciate the exquisite wood and clay sculptures.
