In 1767, the Burmese army captured Ayutthaya. The original royal city site is now Ayutthaya Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The capital of the Ayutthaya era was very developed in terms of culture, art, and international trade. Unfortunately, the ancient city was completely destroyed by the invading Burmese army. Everything in the city was burned down. The Burmese army even thought that there were gold, silver, and jewels hidden in the Buddha statues, so they chopped off all the Buddha statues. As you wander around Ayutthaya, you can see the relics of Buddha statues or temples everywhere. Next to the lush branches, the broken Buddha's hand is placed on the ground, giving a sense of historical ruin and sorrow. The temple buildings in Ayutthaya are mostly in ruins. Everywhere you look, there are different ruins. However, the state of life of the people here will make you feel that a city that is almost "dead" is still "alive" and you will feel the strong spiritual power here.
