Pakistan's Pink Mosque: So girly!|||A very niche tourist attraction: Wazir Khan Mosque 🕌 Located in the old city of Lahore, the capital of Punjab Province, Pakistan, it is not far from the Delhi Gate. It was built during the reign of Shah Jahan, 1634-1641, which is roughly the late Ming Dynasty in China. Shah Jahan was the builder of the Taj Mahal and the husband of Mumtaz Mahal. Wazir Khan is a personal name, or more accurately, a royal title. His full name is long, so I won't mention it here. He was originally the court physician of Shah Jahan, and later served as the governor of Agra and Lahore, and in 1640 became the Grand Vizier of the Mughal Empire. The Grand Vizier, as I understand it, is similar to the prime minister in ancient China, the Great Minister of Tibet, or the current prime minister, and is the highest minister of the Mughal Empire and the emperor's chief advisor. The flowers on the murals have small scratches, and they should have been inlaid with gold threads or gems at the earliest, but were later removed by Ranjit Singh, the Maharaja of the Sikh Empire, to repair his own palace and the Golden Temple. This mosque combines several art forms, including murals and mosaic tiles, depicting rich geometric patterns, calligraphy, and floral motifs.
