The Hidden Gem of Laos

If you are visiting Luang Prabang, Laos, and you have some additional time, then you must visit the hidden gem of Luang Prabang, also known as “Nong Khiaw”. Nong Khiaw is a village in Northern Laos, along the Nam Ou river. To visit here, it will be a 3-4 hour drive from the main city of Luang Prabang. There are various transport options, and the one I chosen is a shared mini bus with other tourists. To be honest, it wasn’t an enjoyable ride due to the bumpy roads and how small the mini bus is. But upon reaching the destination, you will forget the “uncomfortable”. The village looks really surreal and because it’s not too “touristy”, many things are kept authentic. The whole village and nature scene are as raw as it is, which to me is really important when visiting such places! The place is really beautiful and there are a few activities which you can do, to further immerse yourself in experiencing the village.
