Kunming is a great place to enjoy flowers in spring, with the suburban park full of spring vitality, colorful flowers blooming in competition, making March the perfect time to appreciate the blossoms. The Yucase Mountain Suburban Park in the western suburbs of Kunming is open to the public for free, and it's well worth taking family and friends for a spring outing to enjoy the flowers. By chance, through an introduction by photographer Bian Fan, whom I met in the Cailong community, I discovered that the Yucase Mountain Suburban Park near the west third ring of Kunming is bursting with flowers in spring. The park's peach blossoms, cherry blossoms, pear blossoms, and crabapples are particularly beautiful and worth a visit. Spring is such a great time to go out for a walk! What a wonderful weekend time, taking the family out to enjoy the flowers! 🚩Location and Transportation: ◆ Kunming Suburban Park is located on Yucase Mountain in the northwest suburbs of Kunming, about 15 kilometers from the city center. The park covers an area of more than 2,400 acres, offering enough space for a whole day of fun with kids or for a spring outing to enjoy the flowers. ◆ There are three entrances to the suburban park: the east, south, and west gates. The east gate is closer to the city, and many locals walk up the mountain and enter the park from there, which is also the main road to the Yucase Mountain Cemetery. The south gate (pedestrian gate, currently closed to traffic) is behind the Qiongzhu Temple, where there is a Qinglan Bridge connecting the temple and the park, but it has been closed due to bridge issues. The west gate is adjacent to the 'Heiqiong Highway,' with rural buses passing through this route. ◆ Most self-driving visitors go to the east gate, while taking a rural bus (C61 route) to enter the park from the west gate, as the south gate is already closed to traffic. 📝Park Visit Journal: ✅ In March, the city of Kunming is filled with the fragrance of blooming flowers. Entering the suburban park from the east gate, I found that the 23rd Spring City Peach Blossom Cultural Festival is being held here, which will last until the end of March. ✅ Near the east gate: The cherry blossoms near the east gate of the suburban park are tall and lush, making it a great place to admire the cherry blossoms and take photos. Near the Mushroom Valley Life Pavilion, there is a platform and boardwalk that is a good spot for photography. Here, you can see the beautiful scene of 'peach and cherry blossoms competing in spring,' and choose one or several types of flowers for travel photography. ✅ Humpback Flight Monument: Walking further west from the east gate, you will reach the Humpback Flight Monument. Since the main purpose of this trip was to enjoy the flowers, I didn't explore this area in detail. ✅ Food Street Area: To the west of the monument, there is a large pond, and on the south side of the road next to the pond is the food street area. You can relax nearby, taste some snacks, and visit the oil painting exhibition held in the corridor. ✅ Peach Blossom Source Scenic Area: The Peach Blossom Source is located in the central area of the park, from the east gate (main entrance) to the Liulin Suspension Bridge. Inside the Peach Blossom Source, there are several old peach blossom bonsai trees that are particularly beautiful, with unique shapes and bright blossoms, worth taking some nice photos. ✅ Liulin Iron Chain Suspension Bridge: Located above a ravine in the middle of the park, visitors walking on it can enjoy the surrounding scenery at a glance. ✅ Peach Blossom View: Near the west gate on the west side of the suburban park, there is an ancient and quaint Peach Blossom View. According to the inscriptions, a touching and beautiful love story once took place here. The platform courtyard in front of the Peach Blossom View is in full bloom, making it a great place to enjoy the view. 📝Park Special Events: ✅ Spring City Peach Blossom Cultural Festival: ◆ The most grand and tourist-attracting flower event in the suburban park is the annual Peach Blossom Festival in March, which has been held for twenty-three sessions so far. ◆ The suburban park has planted more than 10,000 peach trees, with a rich variety of species. There are common white and red peach trees, red-leaf peach trees, and even the unique Sajin peach trees with pink and white colors on the same tree, flower, or even petal. There are also unique varieties like chrysanthemum peach, five-color peach, weeping peach, and longevity peach trees. This is probably the most attractive part of the Peach Blossom Cultural Festival for tourists. ✅ Yucase Mountain Folk Temple Fair: ◆ Every year from the first to the fifteenth day of the Lunar New Year, the suburban park holds the 'Yucase Mountain Folk Temple Fair.' It was selected for the Kunming City Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection List in 2005. ◆ During the temple fair, there are dragon and lion welcoming performances, folk songs and dances, folk artist performances, and a rich variety of activities such as a folk snack street. ✅ Winter Fragrant Chrysanthemum Exhibition: Fragrant chrysanthemums, with leaves that can be admired all year round and flowers that bloom in winter, emit a strong fruity scent that is rich and sweet, detectable from afar. The fragrant chrysanthemums bloom in autumn and winter, and the flower is also known as the 'winter sprite.' 📌Practical Tips: ◆ On the south side of the suburban park is the famous Qiongzhu Temple, which you can visit along the way. ◆ The cherry blossoms around the main hall of Qiongzhu Temple are very beautiful, and the centuries-old sand pear blossoms are also in bloom, plus the temple's vegetarian food is quite good. ◆ The suburban park covers a large area, and there are also some amusement facilities for visitors to choose from.
