Sanfang Qixiang is a historical and cultural district in Fuzhou, also known as the Sanfang Qixiang Scenic Area. It is located on Nanhou Street in Gulou District, Fuzhou, Fujian Province, and covers an area of about 45 hectares. It is a general term for the lanes arranged from north to south on both sides of Nanhou Street. The so-called "Sanfang" refers to the lanes on the left side of Nanhou Street, namely Guanglu Lane, Wenru Lane, and Yijin Lane. The so-called "Qixiang" refers to Jibi Lane, Gong Lane, Anmin Lane, Huang Lane, Ta Lane, Langguan Lane, and Yangqiao Lane. Sanfang Qixiang originated in the Jin Dynasty, formed in the Tang and Five Dynasties, and flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Today, the ancient lanes are basically preserved. Sanfang Qixiang is a large-scale and well-preserved historical and cultural district in China, known as the "living fossil of the Chinese city lane system" and the "Chinese Ming and Qing Architecture Museum". In 2006, it was listed as the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council under the name of "Sanfang Qixiang and Zhuzi Lane Architectural Group". In 2009, Sanfang Qixiang Historical and Cultural District was awarded the honorary title of "China's Top Ten Historical and Cultural Streets" approved by the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China and the State Administration of Cultural Heritage. In 2015, Sanfang Qixiang Scenic Area in Fuzhou was rated as a national 5A tourist attraction, and was also selected as the first batch of Chinese historical and cultural districts jointly announced by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the State Administration of Cultural Heritage.
