Phi Ta Khon is one of the significant identities of Loei Province that you shouldn't miss when visiting Loei during the Phi Ta Khon Festival at Dan Sai district at least once in a lifetime. The Phi Ta Khon Festival is a local tradition of Dan Sai district. It is believed to be a play performed to worship the spirits of ancestors to come out and protect their descendants so that they may live in peace and happiness. During the festival, participants must wear brightly colored clothes and masks carved from coconut palm spathes, painted with various strange patterns according to preference. The Phi Ta Khon Festival is held annually between June and July. If you have a chance, try to visit it at least once.
