🍢 Delicious Thai Style Izakaya in Bangkok

Aunglo by Yangrak is a Thai-style izakaya that serves modern Thai fare, hidden along an unassuming street near Chong Nonsi BTS station. Well, maybe not that hidden, because they’re featured on the Michelin Guide! I booked a last minute spot and scored a prime counter seat, where I could watch my food grilling on the charcoal stove. The smokiness is distinctively in the signature Moo Ping (95 baht), a tender grilled pork skewer that is lightly seasoned so that it goes well with the egg yolk and spring onion dip. The same can be said for the shrimps in the unique Coconut Pancake & Grilled Shrimp (190 baht) dish, which are also charcoal grilled and lightly seasoned so I could taste their natural sweetness. This fusion dish’s main flavour profile is sweet due to its base of sticky coconut pancakes, and the flavour is enhanced with a touch of southern style curry and pomelo pulp. My Tom Yum Fried Rice (180 baht) arrived with a stunning golden fried egg topped with a crimson yolk. I was amazed by the texture of the light and airy egg white - the egg alone steals the show. The tom yum flavour in the rice is mild and not spicy at all, making it easy to eat. I enjoyed mixing the yolk in and eating with the cracklings for more flavour. I highly recommend booking a seat via LINE. Once you arrive, you can order through a QR code (English menu is available) and bring it to the counter for payment after the meal.
