INAYA Putri Bali Resort - Like many in Nusa Dua, this resort is huge and spread out over a large area. However, unlike many of the properties in this part of Bali, the style here is fresh and modern, and a sharp step above the cookie-cutter upscale and luxury resorts that fill Nusa Dua. The giant open-air lobby is designed after a traditional Balinese rice barn known as a "jineng," which are used for storing and drying rice. The high-pitched ceiling towers above the gleaming marble floor. Sofas and chairs that are upholstered in bold modern fabrics are dotted about the area, as breezes come in from the sea. Like the best Bali resorts, though, most of the action takes place outside and near the water, whether it's the pool or the beach. Keep in mind that guests should be prepared for long walks, as it is quite a distance from the entrance to the rooms. The majority of guests here are from China and Indonesia who arrive in big tour groups. Couples also make their way here, especially honeymooners. #createwithtrip #staycation

The Ayodya Resort Bali attracts a wide range of travelers -- from business people looking for large conference and meeting facilities to couples to families seeking a little R&R with kids in tow. This enormous resort is designed to resemble a traditional Balinese temple, with large lake-like fountains featuring water-spouting dragon statues, pagoda-style structures with orange roofs, and exposed wooden beam ceilings in common areas and arching over walkways that lead through the lush resort. The semi-open lobby features wooden floors and columns that support a large roof and include a collection of traditional statuary, such as a temple-style structure at its center. #createwithtrip #staycation

The Vouk Hotel & Suites is housed in two identical off-white buildings separated by a charming wooden bridge lined with manicured strips of grass and flowers. The Love Bridge, as the walkway is known here, runs directly above the pool, providing some shade and keeping the water cool. On either side, lush creepers hang from pots on balconies and colorful plants lend the property a charming tropical feel. Glass ceilings make the lobby sunny and bright, while a small Balinese Hindu statue, rattan furniture, and carved wood accents add local character. Interiors are simple, with white floors and walls, clean lines, wood accents, rattan details, and a soft neutral palette that makes spaces feel fresh. Popular with Chinese tour groups that spend little time on-site, the Vouk Hotel & Suites has a quiet atmosphere that may be a little too hushed for some. #createwithtrip #staycation

Nusa Dua

Situated on the sea in central Nusa Dua, the Westin Resort Nusa Dua is an easy-going hotel with a breezy, tropical vibe. The 28-acre resort is a standout among area properties for its lush gardens and grounds, which include palms and other indigenous trees, hibiscus flowers, lagoons, manicured lawns, and thatched-roof gazebos. Guests check into the hotel in a high-ceilinged lobby with pillars and polished marble floors in a white, black, and gray pattern. There are clusters of purple chairs atop purple-patterned rugs facing floor-to-ceiling windows. Yes, it does feel a bit like a Westin -- but that brand standard is why many guests flock here -- and the interiors feature lots of natural wood and a contemporary Balinese look that give the resort a dash of local flavor. Those staying here are a mix of families and couples seeking an upscale beachfront experience, though business travelers are also drawn to the resort's proximity to the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center. Many guests can be found relaxing on the private beach, where loungers and covered day beds feature natural fabrics in shades of white and beige. #createwithtrip #staycation

Nusa Dua

Nusa Dua is home to plenty of massive resorts that claim luxury status, but often fail to live up when it comes to style and substance. However, the Awarta Nusa Dua -- thankfully -- delivers on its name. The entire property is luxurious and grand, with lush plantings, beautiful water features, and nice walkways throughout. The owner's plant collection adds special character, and helps make this place feel worlds away from the crazy bustle in other parts of southern Bali. The large lobby is tricked out in gleaming marble floors, a large tree sculpture, and wooden desks on each side with tree trunks for seating. However, the private in-villa check-in only adds to the exclusive vibe. The architecture and design of the buildings across the property make a stunning backdrop, and the Ambiance Pond and its waterfall provides a soothing soundtrack in the middle of the courtyard. It's a peaceful, serene setting that's most popular with couples -- the atmosphere is private and romantic -- but families, groups, and even individuals pass through as well. #createwithtrip #staycation

Conrad Resort Nusa Dua - This resort is spread out on a beautiful seven-hectare beachfront property filled with tropical plants, meandering pathways, and pools and fountains. It's a calm and tranquil place with a definitively romantic streak, plus a sleek and sexy modern look that starts upon entering the hotel. The huge covered entrance leads into an equally huge lobby done in sharp dark woods and stone. The architecture blends contemporary lines with traditional Balinese forms, and everything has a low-slung and clean look. Rooms and suites are situated in four separate buildings, with the suites having their own entrance and lounge area. Thatch-covered huts dot the manicured grounds, between palm trees and green lawns. The property is popular for weddings and other events, which sometimes can overwhelm the facilities. It's most popular with couples, though plenty of families pass through as well, in addition to a handful of other leisure and business guests. #createwithtrip #staycation

Located in a beachfront gated community that's home to the Bali Convention Center, the Grand Whiz stands out among its ritzy neighbors for its simple, unassuming style that caters to business travelers and families. The focus here is not on luxury or style but rather on offering all the basics for a relaxing stay without breaking the bank. Interiors are decorated in a generic style that combines simple furniture in dark hues with white walls and natural wood accents. Although there were some renovations in 2013, the property is showing wear and tear in some areas -- especially in the lobby, where tired wood paneling is around pillars and the front desk. Some cute touches help to distract from the aging elements, in particular the stone fountains, the wooden lattice screens providing shade in the main restaurant, and the lovely grounds. The Grand Whiz is a popular pick among business travelers due to its location within walking distance of the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center and its simple, comfortable rooms, but its lovely pool, pleasant spa and easy access to the beach draw many European, Indonesian, and Chinese couples as well. The main dining room was busy but not chaotic in the morning, and the pool area was quiet during the day, with just some low music playing in the background, and a handful of couples sunbathing on loungers. Although the four-bedroom villas are great for families, the hotel lacks all of the kid-friendly amenities. #createwithtrip #staycation

Courtyard Bali Nusa Dua Resort - From the outside, the four-story Courtyard looks nothing like the image many travelers have of this Marriott chain -- it's fronted with palm tress, grasses, and statuary that create a tranquil first impression. That sharp look continues inside. Common areas are bright, breezy, and grand, and the lobby has soaring ceilings, minimalist low-slung furniture, and a color palette that draws heavily on the natural hues of the tropics -- think: gray, soft blues, and plenty of wood. The paper-lantern-inspired light fixtures hanging from the ceiling are a particularly nice design choice. Guests gravitate to the resort's outdoor spaces, including the huge lagoon swimming pool, set in a scenic, lush courtyard with indigenous trees, plants, and flowers. The deck has an abundance of both shaded and sunny areas. Located a three-minute free shuttle ride away, the resort's private beach club on the Java Sea features water sports and a cafe-bar with food and drinks. With a kids' club and children's pool, the resort is a good pick for families with children -- we saw plenty of kids running about when we visited -- and generally attracts those who want to save a bit of money by staying at a less luxe resort away from the water. #createwithtrip #staycation

We were excited to visit a different part of Bali and start our fun holiday at the Grand Mirage Resort where we would be spending our first few days. I was happy to find out that this is where the Grand Mirage Resort is located, surrounded by restaurants, shops, massage parlours, etc while still having plenty of its own space. From the time we arrived until the time we had to depart, we were well taken care of. There were a multitude of facilities and activities to keep us entertained. We had the all inclusive package (this is optional) which made things so easy. The majority of activities were included as were all drinks and food including room service. It was so easy to relax or be as active as we wanted with plenty to do and experience. It has the benefit of being a large resort with plenty of facilities, but even though we were there at a peak time and it was full, there really did not seem to be that many people around – just enough to give it atmosphere. The Grand Mirage is great for families, couples, friends, anyone really. It is excellent value and lots of fun! #createwithtrip #staycation

There is only one way to explain the grounds at Club Med Bali, huge! I highly recommend taking a village tour on your first morning at Bali Club Med. This will help you understand where everything is and how the food/drinks work at the resort. Also where to find activities at certain times like the afternoon family fun event. When you first get a quote from Club Med Bali it can seem expensive. But the value for money that Club Med inclusions offer definitely make up for this. I am a terrible at keeping to a budget on holidays, so it was nice to know that there wasn’t going to be a huge bill at the end! It was a fantastic place to stay. We loved the beach at Club Med, so much space and I think it has one of the nicest stretches of beaches in Nusa Dua. The perfect spot to the watch the beautiful sunrises and to enjoy the many water sports that Club Med Bali offers. #createwithtrip #staycation

The Melia Bali Indonesia is an upscale resort right on the beach on Bali's southeastern coast. Set on beautiful grounds filled with palm trees, bougainvillea, and lots of lake-like fountains, the Melia Bali has a tranquil ambience. The property is huge (10 hectares, or nearly 25 acres) which means a lot of walking from place to place -- but the upside are the beautiful gardens and the natural feel (we spotted lots of squirrels and water birds during our visit). Though the resort draws mostly couples here on leisure, plenty of families stay too and the impressive conference facilities make it a hub for business events. The Melia offers a variety of entertainment options and activities, including yoga lessons, water basketball, beach sports, and cultural activities raging from cooking classes to temple visits. #createwithtrip #staycation

The Samabe Bali Suites & Villas is situated at the end of a quiet road lined with other luxury resorts. The on-site beach is quiet and sandy, but there is not much else within walking distance. Although Nusa Dua lacks many of the cultural attractions found in other areas in Bali, those interested in shopping and dining will find a number of options here, especially in the area around Bali Collection, located a 10-minute drive away. The Samabe has its own private beach, a lovely, quiet stretch of powdery sand dotted with padded loungers and umbrellas. Free non-motorized sports are available here, and bar service (including food) is offered throughout the day. Overlooking the beach is the hotel’s gorgeous infinity pool, surrounded by loungers, cabanas, and umbrellas. #createwithtrip #staycation
