。 🇯🇵 Mt. Aso | Is it worth the drive from Fukuoka? 📍 Mt. Aso, Kumamoto Mt. Aso was one of my must-visit spots on this Kyushu trip because I wanted to see an active volcano with smoke billowing from its crater with my own eyes. I drove from Fukuoka, which took about two and a half hours. The route was mostly expressways and a breeze to drive. As soon as I entered the Aso area, the scenery transitioned into vast open grasslands and mountains. I found myself pulling over to snap photos before I even reached my destination. The weather was clear on the day of my visit, giving me a perfect view of the smoke rising from the crater. It was pretty windy and chillier than I expected, even in the middle of the day. My favorite part wasn't actually the crater itself, but the overall vibe of the surrounding area. The roads winding through the grassy plains and the constantly changing views along the way were incredible. Every few kilometers, there was another spot making me want to pull over. Getting There 🚗 Fukuoka → Mt. Aso ⏱️ Approx. 2.5–3 hours Tips · Check the crater's access status before you head out. · If you have the time, make sure to drop by Kusasenri and Daikanbo. · Take your photos in the morning—the lighting is way better, and you'll beat the crowds. ⭐ Personal Rating: 10/10
