Mount Aso's Seasonal Azaleas.

The azaleas at Mount Aso are primarily the endemic wild species "Miyama Kirishima." The best time to see them is from mid to late May, when vibrant pink and deep red blossoms carpet the rugged volcanic rock walls, creating a stunningly dramatic natural landscape. Along the crater hiking trails, you can also admire large clusters of azalea bushes set against the breathtaking volcanic scenery. Situated at the northern foothills of Mount Nakadake and Mount Takadake, this is the most renowned gorge for viewing the Miyama Kirishima azaleas, featuring a spectacular sea of flowers covering the mountains.
