Just got back from Africa~ Sharing some of my feelings ❤️ and many precious moments I’ll keep to myself It was my first time in Africa, and I didn’t dare to go alone, so I signed up for Straw Man’s Namibia tour. The result was extremely satisfying! We did so many romantic and joyful things in Namibia. Truly happy, and I fell madly in love. Walking barefoot on the sand dunes with sand flying underfoot, getting soaked by the sea and then lying sprawled on the boat deck to dry off, lying in the mountains at 2 a.m. watching stars wink and waiting for the Milky Way to appear, crawling out of the tent at 5 a.m. with no face wash or hair combing to climb a hill and see how the sunrise dyes the mountains red, watching rhinos drink and bathe by the pond at midnight, feeling the morning breeze at 6 a.m. while observing the animals of Etosha… I love returning to places without signal, spending days watching flowers, grass, sky, birdwatching, treasure hunting, and looking for Er Niu. I love boldly asking absurd and divergent questions, and even if it’s boring, receiving serious, lively, and professional answers. These 9 days in this country passed thickly and slowly, each day coated with a layer of happy sand. Such a vivid and fulfilling life. P.S.: I must praise my amazing tour leader and teammates! Who feels my pain?! Last week, I was "trapped" at Zannier Hotels Sonop in the African desert for three whole days. Now, back at work, all I can think about is the endless red sand. This hotel has ruined me for life 😭 📍First of all, the location is insane After a bumpy 2-hour flight from Windhoek, I thought I'd landed on Mars when I stepped off the plane🔥 The hotel is completely isolated in the southwest corner of Namibia, surrounded by nothing but 13,800 acres of desert! When the butler handed me a cold towel, he said, "This sea of sand is bigger than some European countries." As someone with zero sense of direction, I gave up on navigating the place right then and there... ⛺️Stepping back in time to 1920 I almost knelt down when I opened the door—an antique telescope pointed towards the desert horizon, hand-woven carpets that felt like clouds beneath my feet, and a bathtub right next to the four-poster bed! Every piece of furniture in the tent screamed "I'm expensive, but I won't say it," and even the notepaper was kept in a brass box (I almost stole it when I checked out, who can relate?). 🌌The Milky Way exploded fireworks above my head The infinity pool isn't for swimming! While I was floating on a raft watching an outdoor movie, the Magellanic Clouds suddenly burst open above me✨ When the guide pulled out a laser pointer to trace the constellations, this city slicker finally understood what "touching the stars" meant (my phone camera failed to capture the breathtaking beauty, even after 108 blurry photos). ⚠️But there are three things I have to complain about 1️⃣There's no full-length mirror in the tent! We saw giraffes, buffaloes, dear, different species of birds, lots of zebras. They are everywhere! Didn’t spot any lions but we saw these in another safari we did in Tanzania. Africa to me, is the most beautiful continent on earth! 💰How much does it cost to rent a house on wheels? We went to Namibia for 15 days but rented the vehicle for 12 days. If you have time and money to stay longer, I’d suggest staying at least three weeks so you can take your time driving, resting and taking in the scenery. Namibia is a big a country and you’ll spend a lot of time behind the wheel because there’s a lot to see. The cost for renting a 4x4 with a roof tent was $1,200 including full insurance, with a company called Britz. There are other companies and they have different prices depending on the type of vehicle, tent and extras. We went for the budget friendly, basic vehicle - Not for the instagram friendly; Jeep with solar panel for a ridiculous price. At the end of the day, you are still sleeping in a tent! 😂 The price included: · Sleeping bags, pillows and blankets for two. · Kitchenware - plates, glasses, kettle, pots & pans. · Small gas cylinder · Portable stove · Picnic chairs and table · Freezer Gas cost: 600 and we drove 4,000 km. Campsites cost: $210 (5 campsites) The days we didn’t have the car, we slept at Urban Camp in Windhoek, that was an additional $120. We would have loved spending more time in Namibia but our budget didn’t allow. Will definitely go back to explore more of this beautiful gem in the world. #sunrisescenes There are places where you just want to be silent and watch. The Quiver Tree Forest in southern Namibia is one of them. Early in the morning, when the sun is just breaking the horizon, unusual quiver trees gradually emerge from the darkness. Their bizarre silhouettes against the vast sky look almost surreal. This natural forest is located near Keetmanshoop. About 250 trees grow here, some of them hundreds of years old. This is not an artificial planting—the trees have formed a natural grove against the backdrop of ancient dolerite rocks. (Namibia Safaris⁠) Dawn here is characterized by its light. The first rays softly illuminate the trunks and rocks, the shadows become long, and the desert landscape around takes on warm hues. It is at dawn and sunset that the trees are especially striking. (Quivertree Forest Rest Camp⁠) Just nearby is Giant's Playground, a place with enormous piles of dolerite boulders, some 160–180 million years old. The stones look as if some giant actually stacked them on top of each other.

This trip exceeded all my expectations. Flying over Melbourne city, enjoying lunch at Innamincka, and spending the night in a luxurious room at Birdsville Pub again was truly thrilling for me. Flying over the swollen Lake Eyre and Lake Eyre South, with water flowing, was an awe-inspiring experience. Then traveling by van to Nilpena Ediacara National Park was fascinating. The fossils there are unique to our planet (other Ediacarian fossils are only found in Namibia and Newfoundland), although their display lacked authenticity. Who would have thought? Walking on such ancient earth, tracing the footsteps of a billion years, felt like a rare privilege. Staying at the magnificent Parachilna Pub, “The Prairie,” added a special touch to the experience. Traveling with a small, intimate group, our Pilot Trevor delivered smooth flights and landings, making the journey even more enjoyable 🌟. Tour Director Mandy enhanced the trip further with her thoughtful attention to each individual's needs. Thank you to both Trevor and Mandy for creating such memorable moments. This stunning region of remarkable Australia will remain a highlight in my travel memories. I’m deeply grateful.

These trees have been dead for centuries… but they’re still standing. Deep inside Namibia’s Namib Desert is a place that looks almost too surreal to exist. It’s called Deadvlei. Imagine walking across a completely white clay pan surrounded by enormous burnt-orange sand dunes. In the middle are the black skeletons of ancient camel thorn trees. They’ve been dead for roughly 600–700 years, but because the environment is so incredibly dry, they haven’t decomposed like you’d expect. The result? One of the most recognisable landscapes in Africa. Black trees. White ground. Red dunes. Blue sky. It’s almost absurdly photogenic. And then you climb Big Daddy, one of the enormous dunes surrounding the pan. From the top, the entire landscape opens up beneath you — endless waves of orange sand stretching toward the horizon. For a travel reel, I’d keep it simple. Start with a silhouette of one dead tree. Text: “This tree has been dead for hundreds of years…” Pause. Zoom out. Reveal the giant red dune behind it. Then cut to a wide shot showing the entire valley.
