Daming Prefecture, also known as Beijing Daming Prefecture, was historically located northeast of present-day Daming County, Handan City, Hebei Province. Daming Prefecture is a place of outstanding people and fertile land, historically serving as the administrative center for prefectures, circuits, states, provinces, and counties. During the Spring and Autumn period, Daming Prefecture belonged to the State of Wei and was known as "Wulu," famously called the "Wulu City" in history. It was named "Daming Prefecture" in the third year of the Tang Dynasty's Jianzhong era and was elevated to the secondary capital "Beijing" in the second year of the Northern Song Dynasty's Qingli era. During the Qing Dynasty, it served as the first provincial capital of Zhili Province. Within the ancient city are the ruins of the old Daming Prefecture city, with surviving rammed earth city wall sections and drainage system remains; the Wuliji Stele, the tallest ancient stele existing in Asia; a Sino-Western architectural blend, including a Gothic-style Catholic church built with blue bricks; and a stone carving museum housing the epitaph of He Hongjing from the Tang Dynasty.

The ancient city of Damingfu has a perimeter of nine li and eighteen bu, with city walls three zhang and five chi high, and two zhang and five chi wide.
