New Zealand South Island - Delicious restaurant in the gold rush town: Olivers Restaurant
#100 Ways to Travel
On a self-driving trip to the South Island of New Zealand, we passed through Clyde, a small town that rose due to the gold rush. It was once the most populous place in New Zealand, but with the decline of the gold rush, the town returned to normal. Clyde has retro buildings from the Victorian era. There are cinemas, post offices, bars and restaurants in the town, and there is also a beautiful iron bridge nearby.
Let's have lunch in Clyde at noon. We chose a 150-year-old building on the main street. The carefully renovated restaurant "Olivers Restaurant" is a beautiful Victorian-style brick house with arched brick and stone windows, which has the temperament of an aristocratic castle.
The restaurant is of high quality from decoration to food service, but the price is very affordable. The three of us ordered risotto, beef stew, and three-layer pork. The cooking method is not too heavy, which is very suitable for Taiwanese tastes. The restaurant has a good atmosphere and the food tastes better than expected. Next to it is a bakery to buy bread and coffee. It is a town worth staying in.
Olivers Restaurant
Opening hours: 1800-2200
