"The room was a bit smaller than I expected, and the facilities were a little dated. However, the sea view was absolutely breathtaking – it was so refreshing to open the curtains to that sight.
The hotel offers direct access to Shirahama Beach from its first floor, which was super convenient for swimming and watching fireworks.
It's also very close to the dining street and Daiso, making shopping and eating incredibly easy.
The bus stop is just a minute's walk from the main entrance, making it easy to get to attractions.
The breakfast was great, with a wide variety of options, including both Japanese and buffet styles.
The hotel service was excellent – the staff were warm, attentive, and always ready to help with anything we needed."

"This hotel was our last stop before heading to Kansai Airport, and it seems many others use it as a convenient layover point before their flight. It's incredibly easy to get to the airport from here; it's about a 7-8 minute walk, just two or three intersections away, to a Wakayama Airport Limousine Bus stop. Personally, I find the airport bus more convenient than the Shinkansen because you can hand your luggage directly to the driver instead of lugging it around. The airport bus costs 1400 JPY and takes approximately 30-40 minutes to reach Kansai Airport, which is actually more convenient than traveling from central Osaka.
Secondly, this hotel, though small, has everything you need. Its bathrooms, both indoor and outdoor, are spotless. The breakfast spread offers a wide variety of choices, including sashimi and seafood rice bowls. Everything is presented in small portions, but it's all very clean and delicious. The hotel provides a map showing nearby attractions. After a bath, complimentary ramen is offered – we didn't try it, so I can't comment on the taste. There are also ice pops.
I particularly recommend the room type I chose because it has a split bathroom layout. The vanity is outside, while the toilet and shower room are enclosed. As many know, some Japanese bathrooms are tiny, with everything crammed into one small space, making it impossible for two people to use at once for washing up and using the toilet. But this bathroom is separated, and it even has a small door that can be pulled shut to create a partition between the wash area and the sleeping area. This is ideal for guests with different schedules. This was a twin room, and it was quite spacious, with enough room to open up our suitcases. All in all, I highly recommend this hotel and this particular room type."

"The hotel was perfect! Breakfast with an ocean view was lovely, and the room was incredibly spacious and new, especially compared to other hotels in the area. The 11th-floor onsen offered breathtaking views, and I loved soaking in the beautiful Shirahama sunsets every evening. Ramen shops, convenience stores, and drugstores are all within walking distance. The bus stop is a short walk down to the beach, and all the main attractions are easily accessible from there, which was very convenient. The only downside was the uphill walk, which was quite a struggle when carrying luggage. However, I would definitely choose this hotel again for my next visit."

"The breakfast was incredibly authentic, rich, and delicious, making me feel warm both physically and mentally – truly amazing! It was so good it could easily account for 1/3 to 1/2 of the room rate, haha, that's how much I loved it. My only regret is that I only stayed one day and thus only got to enjoy it once. 😄
The breakfast was so incredibly good that I could even overlook the bathroom setup where the tub and toilet were in the same room without a separate partition. 😂
The hotel is also super convenient for getting directly from Kansai Airport by bus without any transfers. This location was perfect for us as we were planning to visit Kishi Station to see Stationmaster Tama. We also had lunch at the hotel's ground floor cafe, and the food there was excellent too."

"It was out of our expectation. It is a standalone apartment that has everything you need. It is better to register all the guest’s information online via the email. That will make your check-in more convenient. We were impressed with the backyard. We planned to have dinner there. Unfortunately, it was cold and raining. We definitely wanna stay there again. It’s at a very great location, close to the shopping center, and the bus stop of Kumano hiking, just in a few mins walk. Even you don’t do hiking, it is also good for a bunch of friends for a retreat."

"Smile Hotel Wakayama is conveniently located right beside Wakayama Castle, making it a great choice for sightseeing and exploring the area. Overall, we had a good stay and a pleasant experience.
Although the hotel’s renovation and interior are slightly outdated, the room was still clean and comfortable. Considering the price and the excellent location, it is more than acceptable and offers great value for money.
What truly stood out was the excellent service from the front desk staff. They were extremely friendly, helpful, and professional. We encountered a problem with our car during our stay, and the staff kindly assisted us by contacting the police and helping us handle the situation, which we really appreciated.
Overall, it’s a great option if you’re looking for a budget-friendly hotel with a fantastic location and outstanding service."

Mia’s Travel MemoirsFor the price, this was a really average stay. The staff were average, as well as the food. The staff were friendly but they didn’t feel genuine. The Temple itself is very beautiful. The rooms are large, however the floor mattresses are completely worn out so you can actually feel the hard floor beneath you. I’ve stayed in a Ryokan before and their mattresses were still soft and comfortable so this Temples mattresses are definitely in need of an upgrade. Would I come here again? Probably not.

Arrive at JR Shirahama Station and then transfer to the taxi for about 4 minutes. It is very close to Toretore market and can be reached on foot. The rooms are panda-shaped and spacious inside. Dinner and breakfast are buffet style

The seaside corridor is also stunning, and there's a dedicated hot spring area for foot soaks. The public outdoor hot spring views are also great. The only downside of my trip was the room I booked, which was supposed to have an indoor hot tub, but it turned out to be just a regular bathtub. Although the staff explained that the water was indeed from a hot spring, it still felt disappointing, so I didn't use it. I contacted Ctrip customer service about it, and their handling of the issue was very satisfactory. However, the public bath was a delightful surprise; both the environment and the soaking experience were incredibly comfortable. I highly recommend the dinner buffet. Even though it's a buffet, the ingredients are fresh, and the variety is extensive. You can even grill your own food. The tempura was exceptionally delicious, and they had Haagen-Dazs ice cream! Breakfast, however, wasn't as lavish and was quite simple. Overall, I'd say I'm satisfied.

It wasn't the most pleasant experience considering that the males n females had to share toilets and that some other rooms had private toilets n bath instead. And also the fact that the walls are super thin hence whomever is connected to your room if their loud or they don't like your voice volume than you might get kicked to the curb. It's a very frustrating experience for sure since it tests one's patience n ability to let go. It's training for the customers n monks alike. I met a Japanese friend here whom shared with me how rude the monks and the staff were to one another n I think that shows the quality of this place however we were pretty lucky as there was a male who spoke mandarin n a male who spoke English both quite well in this place n though the mandarin speaker was quite condescending towards the other monks, the English speaker was really nice n patient overall. He helped me out a lot since we couldn't communicate with the others n seemed to be the only customers that spoke English whom booked this place by ourselves, the others around seemed to have a guide n were usually in groups.
It's a unique experience n I recommend just staying for one night or going to the other temples. I went for the ajikan meditation at eko in temple n the service n cleanliness was on another level for sure. The food here was also really simple. Also a must see are the tomb area n the walk to kobold daishi temple. As a sensitive person, I felt the overwhelming love n presence and the cleanse of my heart of this amazing soul over there. To me, that was worth it. Remember to clean yourself with the water out front before going in.... and of course to the amazing fateful friendship that occurred for us with the jap-********* couple we met. It was the next fav of mine after the time spent in nara visitor center. That was truly magickal n how I wished we stayed longer there. But all was good cause the way I planned this trip made it so that we would have this fateful encounter to the end of our trip.

This was my first stay at this onsen hotel, and I had a great experience! The hotel is quite close to Kii-Katsuura JR Station, about a seven or eight-minute walk.
The environment is nice, and the service is excellent! The room was spacious and faced the sea, so I fell asleep to the sound of waves every night. The only downside was that it rained during our visit, so visibility was poor, and it was foggy every day, but it didn't affect our plans.
Both breakfast and dinner are set meals. You choose your preferred time, and they won't let you in even a minute early, as everything is already arranged. I initially thought the set meals wouldn't be filling enough, but they actually were – and very good! The ingredients were all super fresh. Each dish was exquisitely plated, and some looked simple but were surprisingly delicious once you tasted them. I even made a seafood miso soup with rice, which was absolutely divine!
The hot springs are on the second floor. From the outdoor bath, you can stand up and see the Pacific Ocean. Soaking in the bath with the sea breeze blowing was incredibly comfortable!
Every night from 9 PM to 10:30 PM, they serve tantanmen noodles. We tried the savory, sesame-flavored one, which was quite unique. I'd never had anything like it, and it was really tasty!

We stayed in this lovely family hotel for a night, we opted for room stay with dinner and breakfast. There's no shops or restaurant near by, so highly suggest to choose the stay with meals option, otherwise there's cooking facility within the room also, so I think it's possible to cook your own meal if necessary.
Location - the hotel is just round the corner of the famous Shirasaki Ocean Park, we even had a good view of the park from our room. There's parking space right in front of the hotel building, so it's very handy. We cycled to the Shirasaki Ocean Park then to the hotel, so it worked out perfect. There's a very steep slop going up to the hotel though, but it wasn't an issue for us as we pushed out bikes up.
Facilities - this is a family run hotel which believes was built a while ago, so can't compare it to all those new built hotels. The ”room” we stayed is more like a mini flat, it has a big kitchen, good sized bathroom with changing area, a separate toilet, a living room, bedroom and an extra ”sitting” area. The entire flat is in traditional Japanese style which we loved, and it has all facilities that made our stay comfortable. It also has coined washing machine and driers. We could even access to rooftop on the 4th floor to view the sunset. If you're looking for a quiet place to have quality time, then this is a good place to do so. There's also ”public bath” within the hotel, it's small but wasn't an issue for us. There's also shower and bath in the room also if you want some privacy.
Food - all food was cooked and prepared by the hotel owner, and she's a talented chef! Dinner was impressive, breakfast was standard.
The hotel owner is very friendly and lovely, it's definitely ”the place” to stay if you're visiting the area. We highly recommend it.

Highly recommended. Good private location, superb service, big indoor and outdoor onsen, superb view and exceptional service.
I stayed during end of Nov. 24.
The hotel is value for money indeed. The room is definitely not 17m as it s indicated. It s very spacious with great private sea bay view.
I stayed during end here one night and stayed at KAMENOI hotel another night. I truly prefer warmth atmosphere here. The outdoor onsen here is certainly better as well!
If I go to Katsuura again, I will definitely stay here.
