Although it's not fast, the scenery along the way is stunning. From Visp to Zermatt, the train follows the Rhone River, passing through deep canyons and over majestic mountains. The journey takes about 2–3 hours. Sitting in the panoramic carriage, the magnificent scenery of the Alps unfolds outside the large windows. Snow-capped peaks, azure glacial lakes, and lush forests—every scene is worth capturing. Please note that reservations are required for the Glacier Express, especially during peak season. It's best to book a few weeks in advance, otherwise, tickets may be sold out. Additionally, Swiss Travel Pass holders can enjoy certain discounts. 🏔️History and Legends The history of the Matterhorn is like a magnificent epic. Its formation began about 50–60 million years ago when the African and Eurasian plates collided violently, pushing up sedimentary rocks from the seabed. After millions of years of weathering and erosion, this near-perfect pyramid-shaped peak was finally sculpted. Before 1865, the Matterhorn was like a distant goddess, rejecting all suitors. Many brave climbers attempted to conquer it, but all returned without success. Until July 14, 1865, when British mountaineer Edward Whymper led a team, overcoming many hardships, and finally reached the summit, becoming the first team to conquer the Matterhorn. However, this triumph was accompanied by tragedy. During the descent, four team members tragically fell to their deaths 1,400 meters below onto the glacier. This disaster shocked the world and made the name of the Matterhorn known everywhere. In local legends, the Matterhorn is the abode of the gods, protecting the land and its people.
