Good value in a great location. We walked from the train station. Enjoyed an excellent breakfast while watching pedestrians and cyclists making their way to work and school. The beds were comfortable, the shower was hot and strong. The young man who checked us in was 5 star. Definitely recommend.

We stayed at this Novotel in Zurich, the Novotel in Munich and the Novotel in Geneva. This Novotel was definitely not as good as the others. The location is fine - it's well connected to public transport (it is located in the business technology park). We had booked nearly nine months in advance and asked for two rooms near each other (we were travelling as a family). We were given two rooms on separate floors at opposite ends of the hotel. It was literally the most far apart that the rooms could be. Reception on check in said that they would change it, then kept me waiting for 45 minutes while they tried to do so. I gave up at the 45 minute mark and just took the rooms that had been initially allocated. The initial person on check in did try and be helpful and gave a good restaurant recommendation. The other person on reception really was not helpful - in the end one of his colleagues stepped in to assist as I think she could see that he was being very unhelpful. Reception was often busy with queues (the reception area is not large enough for the size of the hotel). We were clearly tourist visitors to the city, and no-one in reception advised us on check-in that there was a huge festival in the city taking place (attracts 2 million visitors to Zurich) that was affecting all public transport plus restaurant availability etc. The rooms and the pool were fine. The breakfast at this hotel was very, very average, particularly the hot food items. The breakfast compared very unfavourably to those offered by the Novotel hotels in Geneva and Munich. Check out took a long time, and there did not seem to be a place to drop keys. The staff have very casual uniforms (pants and polo shirt) which also contributes to the whole feel of the hotel seeming like a lower standard. Hopefully Novotel can look at this hotel and try and improve the standard so it is of a similar standard to its other locations. (Novotel Munich in particular was so much better!)
Renaissance Zurich Tower Hotel

My work brings me to Zürich many times each year, often several times each month. And my company usually books us at this property. I’ve probably spent more than 50 nights at this Marriott property over the last several years. I used to enjoy my stays here, but the hotel seems to be getting worn down, and is now overrun with cruise and bus tour customers, which can often overwhelm the staff. and leave the rest of their guests with lengthy waits for assistance. Normally, Renaissance properties are among my favorite Marriott brands, and one of my “go-to” hotels when traveling for pleasure, but this hotel has seen better days. The rooms are spartan and dull, the decor is dated, and they REALLY need to upgrade their bedding and mattresses. As a Lifetime BonVoy Platinum Elite member, I am entitled to Club lounge access, free breakfast, and room upgrades, among other perks. Their new SkyLounge is an improvement, but isn’t very inviting and their beverage/snack options need improvement. The breakfast buffet is more what you’d expect to find at a budget-brand hotel, with uninspired food, bad coffee and overall pretty tasteless. Thankfully it’s free, as I wouldn’t pay for it (and the isolated location doesn’t provide many alternatives). The staff try their best to be polite, but are often overwhelmed and exhausted by the tour groups. And they can be a bit surly at times. If you have a choice, stay elsewhere. You can get much better accommodations/service for the price.

When traveling to European cities, we have found that being close to the main rail station is a must for us. This hotel is NOT near that main station, but is just a few blocks from the Hardbrucke Station, and within a block of the Schiffbau Tram Stop. Once we figured this out, we found it pretty easy to use the #4 Tram to get from this place to the major tourist sites of Zurich. If arriving at the Zurich Airport, the best way to get to the Hardbrucke Station is to use S-Bahn #16, that goes directly between these two places. If arriving in Zurich by train or bus, there are about a dozen S-Bahn trains going from the main station & Hardbrucke. Once at the latter, exit the station near the Hitzberger & the BretzelKoenig, walking underneath the raised highway towards Schiffbaustrasse. Turn left when you see the Schiffbau theater, and you'll soon be at the Ibis. This area is a former industrial area that has been turned into a residential / entertainment area. Thus, there is a grey grimness to the neighborhood, despite being close to several restaurants, two supermarkets, and a few places for entertainment. Wander around for a few minutes, and you'll find most everything you'll need to enjoy your stay. Ibis hotels are generally minimal amenities for a lower price, and this one is no exception. Our room had a half-bath, phone, hair-dryer, free wifi, and TV with over 100 channels -- about 21 in English. It was clean, quiet, and well-maintained. Staff was efficient & professional. An onsite restaurant will serve a breakfast buffet for a price. Although many cities in Switzerland provide free transit passes to guests who stay in local lodging, Zurich is not one of these. You can use the Swiss Travel Pass or the Zurich Card to ride the trams to tourist sites, or just buy tickets or day passes at the vending machines at the stops. If you don't mind riding a tram to & from the tourists stops, this Ibis can be a more economical choice for your stay in Zurich.

Empfehlenswertes, sympathisches Haus! Gerne wieder!

Although not in the urban area near the train station. But it takes 10 minutes to take the tram to the train station gate. Zurich is small. Urban rooms are mostly small. Very satisfied with this hotel. Heating, MINIBAR, breakfast are good. The room is facing the street but not noisy at all.
