Hotels Near Matterhorn Glacier Paradise in Zermatt

The view over Matterhorn and the Alps is fantastic from the terrace. The food is fare and good for the location altitude (2583m). You can eat 3-course menu or just take a replenish food before continuing for hiking/alpinism path choosing a traditional German-Switzerland course or an international one. If you don’t want to eat, you can enjoy a drink while relaxing with a view over the Alps. There is even a band that sings during some days (weekends especially) and they are able to make a good atmosphere. Even in summer they provide some blankets for the “frizzing” ones.

The best hotel I have ever stayed in during my trip to Switzerland. Take the train from zermtt and get off at Riffleberg station. After informing the hotel front desk in advance, someone will help you with your luggage. The reservation includes two meals, and the food is good. The main reason is that the scenery is really worth it, plus there are hot springs and saunas, which are very comfortable and comfortable. I recommend it as your first choice when visiting Zermatt. And after staying at this hotel, you don’t need to take a bus to the mountaintop station, because the scenery at the mountaintop station is not as good as the scenery at the hotel. I personally tested it.

My wife have grown quite fond of mountaintop lodgings for our ski holidays and they don’t come much more emblematic than 3100 Kulmhotel Gornergrat. Perched atop a peak facing the iconic Matterhorn, it exemplifies the panoramic views and towering location that we adore. Make no mistake, despite my issues raised below, this is a truly magical property. But it isn’t cheap and it comes with a number of limitations that you should be aware of marooned in the middle of nowhere. • COMFORTABLE ROOMS WITH STUNNING VIEWS – Especially the Matterhorn view rooms where the image of this iconic promontory fills your window. • NICELY PRESENTED FOOD – Not quite gourmet, but a clever effort to dress it up with alluring ingredients and garnishes. But the food is tasty and the portions are ample. HINT - GETTING THERE IS VERY COMPLICATED – Do not just put the hotel in your satnav as it will not be able to help you and you will hit lot of problems. Here is a step-by-step guide to getting there: • AVOID THE CAR-TRAIN: The satnavs will give you the fastest route that takes you on a route where you load your car onto a train to be transported through a shortcut tunnel, BUT that train runs very irregularly. So you end of up waiting an hour for a train that saves you 30 minutes of driving time. • GO TO TASCH, SWITZERLAND: Tasch is where you park your car. In fact, I think that the town’s sole purpose in life is to be a giant parking lot for Zermatt. You see Zermatt itself is CAR FREE. So you have to park in Tasch and take a 12 minute shuttle train into Zermatt. I recommend the underground parking lot just to the left of the train station (facing it) which had reasonable prices (12 euros/day), plenty of spaces, but most importantly was the shortest walk to the station (very important when lugging luggage full of ski equipment). • RENT SKI GEAR AT BAYARD – Unlike most ski resorts, the ski rental shops are not obvious. We had to ask to find one. Several people recommended Bayard and they gave us great service. Most importantly, they are on the block adjacent to the train station again minimizing lugging distance. LIMITATIONS - It is a stunning, bucket-list worthy property, but its pricey rack-rates also command a bit of discernment… • OBSERVATORY NOT AVAILABLE – When you read about the place, one of the first things that gets mentioned is its observatory heritage which includes still operational telescopes available for public use. HOWEVER, the observatory is run by a separate company and viewings are only available by prior and separate arrangements. This situation could be better communicated and coordinated. • LOUNGE NOT AVAILABLE – Unfortunately, the hotel doesn’t yet have a common area lounge where you can relax and have drink. You can go down to the dining room and sit at one of the tables with the view of the Matterhorn, but nothing more comfortable. So it is either a table or your room. I was charged for an additional 288 Swiss FR for “additional guest”. when I checked out. only because I did not put My Son’s name when I did the booking, but I booked a twin room and my son naturally stay with me. not to mention he’s my 13 year old son. they can charge me for additional breakfast. That’s totally OK. but additional person for twin room?really? And Main thing I was not told I will be charged when I checked in. That is not fair I will reflect this to Swiss tourism office. Btw. The staff are 100% good. Very friendly but I am sickened by the strange policy.

Tannenhof is well located near the Murmeltierbrunnen (groundhog fountain), next to Zermatterhof Hotel. The building is very modern in inside to a high standard. The rooms and beds were superb, with a great shower. The only star I deducted was the sporadic service at breakfast and poor communication. The young lady briefed with restocking breakfast and clearing tables was a little reluctant, but could be persuaded. I had sent a message to the hotel months in advance and asked for one of our rooms to be made up with twin beds. I even had a friendly confirmation back. On arrival however, no notice could be found and both rooms had double beds. Not a major thing, but a hotel in this category and price range should be able to deal with this. Also on our arrival, the restaurant was closed for the day (it was open again the next day). Again, no notice was given to us. Out of the many messages I was sent by Tannenhof to check in online beforehand, none indicated a closed dinner option at the hotel. Again, not a major thing, but something that wasn’t aligned with rest of the luxurious ambience at Tannenhof.

The room is very big, on the top floor, and has no balcony. (There are balconies on the lower floors, but the hotel says they are higher-class rooms.) We asked to change to a room with a balcony, and we were shown a balcony room in the annex building, which was obviously much smaller and had a bad view, so we stayed in the original large room on the top floor of the main building. After living there, we found that it didn't matter whether there was a balcony or not. A large room was better, and the luggage could be spread everywhere, and you could see the panoramic view of the Matterhorn with a very good view by opening the window. The front desk was very patient with me, and the other front desk staff were also very friendly. The concierge was very professional and provided suggestions for various routes every day. We improved the daily route according to her suggestions, which was very accurate. The best thing was the open-air bathing pool, with a water temperature of 36 degrees, and the Matterhorn was right above our heads. In addition, the hotel has a free shuttle bus parked outside the station, which can be picked up at any time when you arrive, which is very convenient.

The good: the room furnishing was quite nice, the bathroom was lovely, and the breakfast was sufficient (albeit not spectacular). Check-in and check-out was a breeze and staff were nice. The not-so-good: the bed was rather hard and the pillows were quite thin and lumpy. Furthermore, the room did not have adequate airflow, which resulted in a very uncomfortable sleep since there were also no windows to open (only a balcony door, which led to a shared balcony - naturally you wouldn't want that open overnight). The verdict: I would stay here again if they improved the air flow in the rooms and replaced the mattresses and pillows. The value for price was fine, but there's really no point in saving money where you sleep if you're unable to sleep due to it being uncomfortable.

That is the fantastic hotel in Zermatt; the service and facility are excellent, and the room has a good view of the mountain and Matterhorn. The price of the room is already included the swimming pool and gym and Sauna, that is the excellent price that gives you the service. I will book this hotel again.

Very comfortable and clean room..nice view..and breakfast so delicious..near to zermatt station..1-2 minutes walking distance..near to shop and coop..if u want to go to Matterhorn view point-u can stay here..near to the train station

The hotel staff are sincere in their service and are very attentive to arranging the room, and there is someone at the front desk 24 hours a day. There are many types of breakfast food, but please note that the dining location is on the basement floor. The restaurant on the ground floor is purely for dinner. I haven't tried it, but I think it should be pretty good because the atmosphere and atmosphere look pretty good.
