The location was superb, just go straight and then you will arrive in the center.

Bittersweet stay at Speeka. Bad weather first 2 days and few mayor sites still closed due to earthquake in 2020. Hostel is located at 3-lanes main street so prepare for the traffic almost 24/7. Windows are old so don't stop the noise. 1st two nights I slept in room number 9 and there were two other cranky beds making so much noise with every move made. Then I moved to nr 6 and it was much better. Staying there you need to be also prepared for coffee, tea and hot water shortages. And those shabby walls make an impression that the owner doesn't want to invest too much in renovation. Good thing is that hostel is in walking distance from the old town and everything is actually very closed. People are nice and helpful, thanks to the lady at the reception I managed to print a ticket for 2Cellos - without it I wouldn't enter cause they don't have scanners to read a ticket on smartphone screen. But the concert itself was also sad, maybe cause of those strings sound. I don't know what happened but most likely will visit Zagreb in a few years again and stay at some better place.

It was very hot and there were a lot of mosquitoes. They don't even have a fan. It would be nice if spaza were warned.

This is a really beautiful hostel, absolutely on of the most beautiful hostels where I have ever been. Location is also great and staff is nice. The best bunk beds ever - easy to climb to the upper bed using proper stairs. Well equipped kitchen and really cozy living room. Then some minuses: Sleep quality here at summer is not good at all. There is no AC, just one fan. If you sleep at upper bed, it doesn't help at all. So I had couple really sweaty nights. You can also hear everything from corridors and the old single bed is really really squeaky. Room 1 has also problems with corridor lights. When someone walks at corridors, lights turn on automatically. The room 1 has top windows facing the corridor, so when lights lit up, those lights are also brightening up the dorm. Very annoying in top of other issues (heat and noise). There is also only one shower per gender. Not really enough during high season.

In December, due to my obligations in Zagreb, I spent the night in Speeka twice (beginning and end of December). Generally speaking, the offer of the hostel is very satisfactory. Comfortable (room, bed, living room, kitchen, toilet), clean, warm and, last but not least, exciting. You sleep in one of the oldest buildings in the city with a ceiling height of 3 meters, which gives the rooms, equipped with simple but practical antique furniture, great volume and airiness and a special homeliness. A very pleasant experience. Otherwise, I have no other experience with accommodation in Zagreb, so I rate it with 4 stars.

hidden gem. no sign on street door. door is always open and actual entrance to hostel is inside. it is always locked. the building is shared. the hostel is very clean. it is a friendly place and sandra and the owner are very accommodating. kitchen is setup well for preparing your own food. bathrooms are shared but it was not an issue. my private room was very quiet. the hostel had a full house and i didn’t hear anybody else. it’s on a busy street and i did hear vehicular noise outside but not much. if i visit zagreb again i will stay here again.

it looks like a house from the inside, good comfy beds, clean hostel. Not enough showers and toilets if the hostel is fully occupied. One shower for the ladies and one for men in the entire hostel? If you are in a rush you might have to get up early!
